What makes you un-mumsnetty?

GlummyMcGlummerson · 01/01/2021 13:47

For me

  • I park in parent and child spaces when I have my kids with me. I don't make my life harder by parking in a tiny normal space just in case that childless bloke in the Porsche 911 who runs into Asda like Linford Christie might have a better reason for it than me
  • if I have a bad experience I complain. If I find my £40 steak swimming in fat with a pube in it, I don't refrain from saying anything just in case the chef has had a bad day.
  • I go to the supermarket during the pandemic, I don't leave shaking and sobbing and riddled with guilt over it because I bought a Galaxy. I even take my kids with me.
  • I don't "seethe" if, when the secret Santa budget is £5, I get a Bayliss and Harding gift set. I accept that £5 means limited options and I say thanks, move on and don't take it as a personal alight for years to come. I don't have the hump becauSe they didn't personally whittle a keyring from wood in the oak tree that tenderly grows in their back garden

I am so un-mumsnetty because I said I liked Jamie Oliver once and was hounded for hours..had no idea he was akin to Hitler on here.

UpShutTheFuck · 01/01/2021 17:15

@TotorosFurryBehind

Oh...and I don't understand Mornington Crescent and find people's glee over those sorts of in jokes really twatty.
That's nothing to do with Mumsnet.

It isn't an "in-joke". It's a very popular round in the radio programme "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue".

the only thing you need to understand is that there is nothing to understand

toria658 · 01/01/2021 17:15

I loved my MIL
I do not have kitchen or bathroom bins ( unsanitary things in this climate IMO)
I don’t trust other people’s children around my dogs ( not the other way round)
Two rooms in my home are magnolia
I buy items from Lush
I find Greta Thunberg very irritating even though I concede she has a point.

I don’t even know who Anthony Head is, I may have missed him on trains.
He could be the driver, who knows. 🤷‍♂️

@MrsMiaWallis

Would ban all private education and healthcare

I think most mumsnetters think this don't they?

Have you not seen all the handwringing threads about entrance tests and whether to educate privately or build the tennis courts etc?

Ha ha no - disclaimer my teens are at private school

Don't know about healthcare but every other MN child seems to be in private school. Even if it is usually referred to as "the local independent" school.

@Nousernamesleftatall

I am not terrified of Covid.

I am worried about the damage being done to our economy.

I am worried about the ease our civil liberties have been taken away.

me too , also I love mcdonalds . I have 2 toilet brushes , I think there are some really pathetic women who tolerate shit from men when they are completely capable of making a life without them .( I am not referring to women who are being abused by evil bastards of men) I would never ask for an opinion on my problem on here but would give mine on someone else's. I too will happily use bayliss and harding. I know for certain people suffer with mental illness , but still think "pull yourself together and stop the self pity "towards some . I don't mollycoddle my kids , have never dragged them from after school activity to the next , and i am happy to let them do their own thing-(they know they are loved and secure )

Not based on the numbers of posters absolutely insistent on a recent thread that you could always tell a privately-educated person from their general air and conversation.

@BillMasen

I guess I’m also unmumsnetty as a bloke that I have my kids a lot (not 50:50 but more like 40/60). I’m flexible when my ex wants to rearranged or swap around. I pay more than CMS and think it’s vital these payments are reliable. I also know that whilst it’s for my kids, my ex may benefit a bit, and that’s ok.

So not a mumsnetty man (I hope). I do recognise a lot of us out there are pretty shitty and I apologise for them,

Please don't apologise for other men , there are plenty of shitty women around too .
AgeLikeWine · 01/01/2021 17:41

The fact that I’m not a mum, and don’t want to be.

Merename · 01/01/2021 17:47

I actually really appreciated that apology by @BillMasen. I think if there were more men who were willing and interested to name the shit done to women by men, the world would be a better place. I didn’t read it as him taking responsibility for them, just acknowledging. I agree there are shittily behaving women about but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t talk about specifically male shiteyness.

Imissmoominmama · 01/01/2021 17:49

I really love my MIL.

glas14368 · 01/01/2021 17:51

Wow - new to Mumsnet. Had no idea that the things listed were frowned upon.

I don't have a toilet brush and shop on eBay a lot (due to unmumsnetty part time minimum wage job) but ....

My kids have McDonalds quite a lot - and even remove any trace of salad. Buy coke for home consumption too, and allow a LOT of gaming time for son.

Don't understand hatred of Baylis and Harding and love of Molton Brown on here. It's almost the same. Husband used to bring me tiny Molton Brown bottles of shampoo/conditioner/shower gel from hotel stays. They were absolute crap. Smelt awful and terrible quality. I used them for cleaning toilet.

Also never used zoflora, I thought this was for doddery old ladies with powdery faces and smelling of wee

Not scared of coronavirus or answering my door (what's that all about?)

Greentrianglequalitystreet · 01/01/2021 17:52

I love it when relatives buy plastic toys for my children. I prefer them to wooden ones.

glas14368 · 01/01/2021 17:55

Also not rich. Staggering amount of people if here asking if they should buy a house which when I have a nose, turns out to be 1.5 million. Or people saying that they save £1000 a month.

Or should they send kids to private school or give them £250,000 instead.

Just wow. Are they just boasting on here or looking for advice.

Lying is the word you’re looking for.
Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 01/01/2021 17:59

I love my husband and like doing stuff for him even though he is perfectly capable of doing it himself
I am happy to do all the cooking even though I work
I'm rarely raging or seething about anything
I like my neighbours and we take parcels in for each other without stealing stuff or causing resentment
I leave my kids home alone if I have to (they're 11+12)
I have a toilet brush and a toilet/bath mat and sometimes pee in the bath
I don't change my bedding every week
I don't have anxiety, pnd, depression, ocd or emetaphobia
I'm not empathetic, I think sympathy every now and then is enough
I'm fat
I'm working class

LucilleBluth · 01/01/2021 18:03

I work full time etc etc. 3 DCs, blah blah blah, but I love sitting on my arse and will do so at every opportunity.

AgeLikeWine · 01/01/2021 18:05

I’m a confident, experienced driver. I enjoy it, I’m good at it, I am perfectly happy to drive long distances or into big cities or abroad. I own a six cylinder, twin-turbo BMW which does 0-60 in less than 5 seconds, it’s tremendous fun to drive and I regularly overtake people and exceed speed limits.

maddiemookins16mum · 01/01/2021 18:07

I toilet trained at under 2.5. It’s really not that hard and unless there are SN, there really is no reason for wains to be in nappies at 3, or God Forbid, 4 years old.
Plus Co-sleeping, WTAF, the number of MN that simply seem to feel it is un-natural to put a small child in their own bed astounds me. And the often trotted out phrase ‘millions of people around the world co-sleep’ is more likely to be less developed nations and not Craig and Nicola living in Maidstone with their wains Harrison and Molly.
Co-sleeping is so very MN.

19crimes · 01/01/2021 18:07

I love going to weddings and big ones are usually very good fun, rather than indicative of a couple wanting to show off.

I don't find it grabby when couples ask for money as a wedding gift.

I've never tilted my head, gave a tinkly laugh, simply said "no" or spat out my tea.

I despise Zoflora.

I have no issue with a tradesman using my toilet.

I fake tan, have sparkly acrylic nails, and get botox.

I have never used, nor intend to use, a mooncup.

Crankley · 01/01/2021 18:08

I vote Conservative
I voted Leave
I am completely unwoke
I don't spend my life curtain twitching, itching to call the police on my neighbours for having two extra people in their house.
When I had a car I parked in a P&C bay if no disabled bay free.
I don't have any children
I have a loo brush
I drink more than one glass of wine a year
I eat meat
I don't have a clue what an 'on trend grey living room' looks like
I have never heard of 99% of so called celebrities posted about on here.
I don't use social media
I use my mobile approx once a month.
Soutiner how could you.
