Did that really happen? Did I imagine it??

Grin yes, I was there. Looooong time ago. People were really, really upset!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 01/01/2021 00:45

I was there. Feels like a lifetime ago.

Bixs · 01/01/2021 00:45

I’ve been here for ever but I don’t remember that! What happened?

christinarossetti19 · 01/01/2021 00:46

I was a very occasional user at the time and don't remember the ins and outs, but yes do remember the drama.

Over 10 years ago now?

DimidDavilby · 01/01/2021 00:47

Tell us oh wise ones. Of the before times.

meditrina · 01/01/2021 00:47

Yes

One person posted a thread with a click bait title of MN cliches but containing a friendly New Year message

Then everyone had to do one

And they became less funny

And Active Convos thread titles looked like a list of bigots paradise greatest hits.

MNHQ asked several times to cease and desist, epwhuch justncaused mire, and by tius time, done were downright homophobic and worse

So shut down for a few hours whilst everyone sobered up.

It was a bit like a toddler shouting 'bum' - only the first couple of times are funny

GloGirl · 01/01/2021 00:47

Was that the year that people started posting millions of "funny" threads.

They were not funny.

Bloodypunkrockers · 01/01/2021 00:49

Yes

They were boring and not funny

It was mass hysteria as thread after thread appeared.

Not very inclusive

domesticslattern · 01/01/2021 00:50

God it was a bit like when the class goes bonkers when the teacher is out of the room.

Ooogmanay · 01/01/2021 00:50

What year was that?

People were furious. Threats of all sorts going on because everyone was blocked from posting.

DramaAlpaca · 01/01/2021 00:51

Ah yes, the great New Year fuck up. I was just thinking about it actually.

An inexperienced MNHQ staffer was left in charge, couldn't cope with all the 'merriment', deleted stuff they shouldn't, left stuff they should have deleted and all hell broke loose Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 01/01/2021 00:52

I remember that. It was 2012 or 2013, I think (I've only been here since 2012).

YouBoughtMeAWall · 01/01/2021 00:52

God I remember that! Must have been 4/5 years ago?

Goodbye2020Hello2021 · 01/01/2021 00:53

Don’t give anyone ideas... Sounds as ‘hilarious’ as the in-joke threads full of absolute rubbish Hmm

Madeupwithit · 01/01/2021 00:54

Ha ha. Yes. It was epic.

Happy days.

DramaAlpaca · 01/01/2021 00:54

I joined in 2012 too @NoWordForFluffy. I think it was a year or two later.

ValiaH · 01/01/2021 00:56

2012 or 2013 definitely as it was when I would browse mumsnet while doing nightfeeds for my eldest. I remember the aftermath the next day and finding out why the site had been down.

NoWordForFluffy · 01/01/2021 00:59

I'm trying to recall where I was living at the time. We've been here for 7 NYEs, but I don't think I was in this house! I could be wrong though (I had babies 14 months apart in 2013 and 2014; it was all a blur for a few years!).

Duffmcstockings · 01/01/2021 00:59

13 months apart even! 🙈😂

callistography · 01/01/2021 01:00

Oh god. Yes! I remember that. It's a bit of a blur as I was breastfeeding a tiny baby so I was up most of the night just watching the carnage occur

Sparklingbrook · 01/01/2021 01:01

Yep remember it well.

Also the summer of the hacking when MN went down for a few days. Imagine. Shock

ssd · 01/01/2021 01:02

I remember it but as usual I missed it all....sand I still dont know what happened.

NoWordForFluffy · 01/01/2021 01:02

Was that Jeffrey? Or was that something else?

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 01/01/2021 01:05

Joffrey? Had to reset all my bloody passwords after that twat hacked MN
