Ode to my Shark Vacuum cleaner - how do I hate thee? Let me count the ways

Is it because you block every time I use you. EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Is it because even after spending 20 minutes unblocking you, then vacuuming after, you block again and spew everything out all over the floor the moment I switch you off, and I then have to do the unblocking rigmarole all over again.

Is it because you block not in one place but in three places, which can take multiple implements and 20 minutes to unblock.

Is it because the brushes are so harsh they have considerably hastened the need to replace the hall and stairs carpet.

Do not do what I did last year on a mumsnet recommendation and get one in the sales, I nearly launched ours out my bedroom window this afternoon.

I have never had a shark.
Got the original Dyson plug in many years ago and loved it.We had two large dogs and it sucked up the hairs a treat. Lasted years before giving up the ghost.Have had two uncorked ones since and the were crap.
I now have two vacuums, a Sebo upright corded which I love love very much. Heavy but it works like a dream. Two months ago I bought a Miele stick uncorded at half price as was ex demonstration model.I use this upstairs and for quick clean ups.The only negative thing I have about it is it is fiddly to get the filter clean otherwise it is a wish come true. If my house was smaller Iwould use it as my only vacuum. The battery powered ones I find wear out quickly if used too much in larger houses.

nildesparandum · 30/12/2020 19:14

I meant uncorded not uncorked!

Omemiserum · 30/12/2020 19:16

I have a shark about 5 years old (not cordless) . It IS a carpet killer, takes all the pile out of a carpet. When I have to empty it, pretty often , it's still full of carpet fibre more than dust and dirt.

I despise mine. As a poster above said, anti hair wrap my arse! Talking about this is starting to work my blood pressure up. Grin

WanderingHopefully · 30/12/2020 19:55

@JamSarnie

I notice those that love their shark say it's corded. Maybe it's the cordless ones that are the problem?
Ours is corded. It's terrible.
SoupDragon · 30/12/2020 20:08

Mine is cordless and it's wonderful.

HoppyHop · 30/12/2020 20:25

I went against the influencers and most of my friends and bought a Bosch cordless. Love it but it's top heavy. Heavy enough to justify me not going to the gym apparently. Never clogs up (unlike it's crappy Dyson predecessor).

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 30/12/2020 22:47

@pictish

Though I must agree that Henry is a clumsy, cumbersome twat. Couldn’t take a corner to save his life.
This made me laugh sorry 😂😂😂
Fleshlumpeater · 30/12/2020 22:59

Just got a cordless shark after having the cordless dyson. Not. A. Patch. It’s not got the manoeuvrability or the suction of the dyson. Fiddly to get the attachments on, hate how you have to fold it over to store, Miss the docking station the dyson had. Just a poor replacement really, wish I’d just got another dyson.

icedancerlenny · 30/12/2020 23:05

I bought one a few weeks ago and I have donated it to charity. It was so heavy I couldn’t push it on my carpets. I have never had something which was such a waste of money.

UncleBunclesHouse · 30/12/2020 23:07

Love mine! Don’t know what everyone is on about! Grin

TokyoSushi · 30/12/2020 23:09

Oh I've recently got an upright corded one, I really like it! The only thing that I'm less keen on is that it wants you to 'lift away' when you're using the attachment, if you don't, it falls over, invariably on your foot or leg in protest 🙄

SoupDragon · 30/12/2020 23:09

hate how you have to fold it over to store

I love that. So compact and easy to fit in a cupboard.

Mamascoven · 30/12/2020 23:17

I'm in love with my new shark! It was a surprise, so I had already done the whole house with my Hetty. Then tried out my new shark and you should see what came out!! I could not believe it. See ya Hetty!

Thewithesarehere · 30/12/2020 23:18

I bloody hate Shark with a passion now. Used it for about 15 times before it failed, taking £200 down with it. Never again!!

YouBoughtMeAWall · 30/12/2020 23:20

Are you sure you aren’t using a dyson OP? Every dyson I’ve used blocks every farts end. My shark is wonderful. Never blocks. No damage to carpet. Love it.

TreacleMoon123 · 30/12/2020 23:21

Only bought mine this week and so far so good.

BrassicaBabe · 30/12/2020 23:23

Delicate cloggy little fucker. Hate mine. Bought Henry out if retirement

EmmaC78 · 30/12/2020 23:32

I hate mine too, a total waste of money. I am happy to read this thread as so many people seem to rate them I thought it was just me that hated them.

catinb00tz · 30/12/2020 23:33

Just got mine for Christmas. It's the cordless cloggy fucker. Fine on dog hair but packs up the minute you drive over a rizla paper. What a £300 let down.

goldpendant · 30/12/2020 23:33

Hate mine!

Cordless, can't manoeuvre the head on staircases, horrible wobbly fucker.

Itsnotagazebo · 30/12/2020 23:36

Was tempted to get a Shark cos of love it gets from stuff I read.
My mate let me vac her home before I went a shopping.

I came home and hugged my heavy, needs bags, warhorse of a Sebo. It is 15yrs old, only grumbled loudly twice and both times I had it fixed and happy again in 10mins.

Sebos love dirt, dust, hay, house extensions and animals shedding hair. Sharks want show house conditions.

josben · 30/12/2020 23:37

Yep, my Shark now blocks up every single time i use it, just over a year old - absolutely rubbish and really disappointing !
i will go for a SEBO next time

wewillmeetagain · 30/12/2020 23:38

Absolutely detested mine, complete waste of money. Gave it away and went back to Henry.

safariboot · 30/12/2020 23:40

My old Dyson v6 has its faults, and the brush bar never seems to work any more, but at least it doesn't easily clog.
