What do you put in your toastie?

We received a toastie maker as a family gift for Christmas. So far we’ve only tried ham and cheese or tuna and cheese and I’m keen to try out some other ideas.
What’s your best toastie recipe?

Beans and cheese.

egg and beans

Also use mine to make omlettes, pancakes and waffles.

Shmithecat2 · 29/12/2020 13:53

Ham and plenty of sliced onion. No cheese. But extra butter slathered on the outside of the bread make up for the loss of fat content 👍

Saucery · 29/12/2020 13:53

Strong cheddar or Brie with chilli jam.

Cheese (either strong cheddar or something like Leerdammer, or a mix), with sliced gherkins and English mustard.
DP had one of these in a cafe over the summer, we recreated it at home and have had them at least twice a week since Blush

Squaffle · 29/12/2020 14:02

Mozzarella, salami and thinly sliced green pepper... mmmmmmmm

RedPickledCabbage · 29/12/2020 14:05

Mincemeat, as in the sweet stuff that goes into Christmas style mince pies. A light dusting of icing sugar on top, serve with custard or cream. It’s great in toasties.

As for savoury sandwiches, everything you’d put in cold sandwiches. Turkey & ham, cheese & ham, beef & mustard.

I've got one sitting in the cupboard but never used it. Do you oil it or put butter on the outsides of the bread to stop it sticking?

Itsap · 29/12/2020 14:16

Stilton and red onion
Brie and cranberry
Mozzarella, pesto and tomato

81Byerley · 29/12/2020 14:23

Bacon (Precooked) Black pudding and cheese. The absolute best one we had was the year we received a toastie maker for Christmas, and we had a Christmas dinner toastie for tea...and the same for Boxing Day lunch...

Chicken, tomato and Mayo

timeforawine · 29/12/2020 14:29

I have cheese and onion.
My husband had left over turkey and stuffing with a tiny amount of thick gravy, said it was a fantastic toastie

SlopesOff · 29/12/2020 14:30

Baked beans and an egg. If there is room, cheese as well. Depends on the type of toaster.

Friend likes cheese with pickle.

I tried the pancake mix thing, wouldn't bother again, it dried all round the edges of the toaster and went hard.

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 29/12/2020 14:32
