Checking in. A muddy walk here too, but that's just a normal Sunday for us. Need to get DP out of the house to stop him doing yet more DIY. He's very good at it but is incapable of just sitting and relaxing during the day when we are at home. We're keeping our fingers crossed that the GPs have had the vaccine by Feb and we can go and visit them for a couple of days over half term (and that we are allowed to as well).

MercyBooth · 27/12/2020 19:57

Ta. @Curlygirl06

Hope everyone here has had a good Christmas. We did a video call on Christmas Day with my DB and SIL and also took a video call from Italy. DM got upset and cried. She saw my cousins and their children via video call. She also had a cry on Boxing Day but couldnt articulate what was wrong, but its the first Boxing Day for 25 years that DB didnt come over due to the rules and its also why my niece didnt go to stay at her dads.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 27/12/2020 19:57

@110APiccadilly They absolutely do! But they bloody love it to start with. I was quite partial to a contact nap for a long while. Co-sleeping saved me (but I know it's not for everyone). Is this your first or do you have others?

@TheOrchidKiller Cheese Footballs are rank! What are you doing??? Grin

Iheartmysmart · 27/12/2020 19:58

Ooh I like Nebula! There’s Ester, Asta, Stella, Terra or Seren?

Sorry Piccadilly, mine was faulty and didn’t sleep for ages!

Bloody Covid. Positives less than half of yesterday’s but top comment in the paper is “stay home and protect the NHS. Tell your employer you aren’t going into work until this is over”! That’ll go well won’t it!

SirSamuelVimes · 27/12/2020 20:05

@110APiccadilly

Hello all, coercing in from a place of severe sleep deprivation. Please tell me that eventually babies do sleep without the need to be in contact with a human!

@Curlygirl06 Nebula?

Eventually, @110APiccadilly, eventually! But then nature plays it's tricks on you and you'd give almost anything to have a tiny baby snuggled up asleep on your chest again. Try to lean into it!
110APiccadilly · 27/12/2020 20:08

I would co-sleep but she was low birth weight, and it's strongly advised against when baby has a low birth weight (in everything I've seen). I have an involved, helpful and supportive DH, so we're managing. (But only I can feed her, so it does end up being me doing more.)

She's our first. I said I wanted two or three, but if she doesn't learn to sleep I might change my mind!!

countrygirl99 · 27/12/2020 20:15

@AcornAutumn riding g has kept me sane the last 9 months

@Curlygirl06 Aurora?

@110APiccadilly eventually but then you lie awake checking they are still breathing

AcornAutumn · 27/12/2020 20:20

country i can imagine

Sadly I don't think I can risk trying it as I had a spinal injury in my 30s.

zigaziga · 27/12/2020 20:29

Checking in.

I am really starting to panic about schools. I am a SAHM so in theory it’s fine and really it is compared to working parents but with crap weather and literally nowhere we can legally go I am going to go mad.
These Christmas holidays are really starting to feel like Groundhog Day. I wake up and we just do it all over again - consider going outside, sometimes we try, one of the DC will start crying because of the cold or something. Everyone gets bored and angry and cold. We go home.

TheOrchidKiller · 27/12/2020 20:38

@TheOrchidKiller Cheese Footballs are rank! What are you doing???

Desperate times call for desperate measures. I know they're rank. I can't help it.

justasking111 · 27/12/2020 20:40

@Curlygirl06

NannyGythaOgg I'm not supposed to know, but my kids are buying me a tortoise. I've been wanting one for years so they're getting it (her?) with my dh. He checked with me that I defo want one as it's a big commitment but they don't know I know. Keep the ideas coming!
Ooh that's very pratchett
Curlygirl06 · 27/12/2020 20:41

Ooh I like that one, one we've not thought of, thanks!

"@TheOrchidKiller Cheese Footballs are rank! What are you doing??? "

Wha-a-t!!! Shock Wash out your mouth with soap and water! Cheese Footballs are the Bees Knees. And I couldn't find any this year so I'm all bitter and twisted.

Hello, ikeairgin. Thanks for keeping us supplied. I've never managed to get a delivery slot (not that I've tried very hard) and I've always found what I need in the local supermarkets. I think the people in Tier 4 may not notice much difference if we get another lockdown, so maybe less pressure on those supermarkets.

I knew a girl called Seren, lovely name. The other names have been thought of and discounted ( we don't go out much at the best of times!) Many an evening has been spent discussing this subject until dh says it's my tortoise, call it what you like, but I like Twinkle!
Vintagelovingmum · 27/12/2020 20:48

Checking in after being busy for a few weeks. Dd1s birthday in a week and a half and she wants an Elsa doll cake so I've got to get practicing and find a tin which will work and attempt to recreate Elsa's dress

@110APiccadilly they do sleep at some point! I'm in bed between my two now. I just leave my top open for easy access in the middle of the night for dd2. Dd1 had her sleep messed up when the lockdowns and her total loss of routine went out the window so she's back in with me now. Dh is in the spare room but I think he actually prefers it in there!

Totally agree with @countrygirl99 too, once they sleep through the night you spend the whole time waking up to make sure they're ok and still breathing

Gherkinbee · 27/12/2020 21:08

@Curlygirl06 How about Starla?

Rank in a good way.
I'd send you some but I've eaten them.
They used to make a cheese straw version too.

About to start on the liqueur chocolates now. My diet has gone retro. It really does feel like a Sunday in the 1970s.

TabbyStar · 27/12/2020 21:16

Then you get quite a lot of years of respite until they reach about 16 and start keeping / waking you up with their nocturnal ways, especially with covid and a lack of structure to their lives Confused

alfieum · 27/12/2020 21:21

Long term lurker- just want to say thank you for the threads, I have felt so alone other then these threads. Keep making the mistake of posting over there.

Justgivemewine · 27/12/2020 21:24

Checking in.

I love the Discworld books too. It’s been a while since I read one. I reckon now’s as good a time as any to reread them all. The first one I read was Reaper Man, proper laugh out loud funny, it got me and dh seriously hooked.

Curlygirl06 · 27/12/2020 21:24
@Curlygirl06 How about Starla?
Ooh that's different thank you.

Dh has come up with a good one, a mixture of Twinkle (my choice) and Starsky (his choice)......Stinkle! He's not taking this seriously is he?

justasking111 · 27/12/2020 21:30

If you are a Trekkie Janeway, Troi,

Sonicthehedgehogg · 27/12/2020 21:34

Twinkle sounds like a twee name for a vagina, sorry.

They're RANK

Although I bloody love other 70's food. Give me a vol au vent and some butterscotch angel delight and I'm a happy bunny.

NannyGythaOgg · 27/12/2020 21:39

@Curlygirl06

Hermes

or

Great A'Tuin which is the Discworld turtle - or just A'Tuin

@ikeairgin - thank you - one of the unsung heroes of the last year

SirSamuelVimes · 27/12/2020 21:40

Oh now you've said it, twinkle will always = foof. Don't call the poor tortoise Vag! Grin

Cheese footballs are rank, I agree. Onion rings, however, are BRILLIANT.
