@ISaySteadyOn

I am just broken. I can't stop crying. I feel utterly hopeless and abandoned.

I used to think I might matter and have things to contribute, but I don't.i am nothing.

Stay with us. I've had days where I've not really had much to say... even my more random ramblings run dry.

I saw signs of snowdrops yesterday. They always give me hope.

You do matter. Everyone of us does Thanks

Right swopped MN name around so as not to confuse everyone Grin

ISaySteadyOn · 02/01/2021 08:42

There are purple flowers. I have to show DD1 the purple flowers I found.

bakingcupcakes · 02/01/2021 08:56

@ISaySteadyOn It might not seem like it now but stuff will gradually improve. It always does eventually. All you can do is keep going. Flowers

DS has informed me that we have a 'food shortage' because we're severely lacking in fresh bread, fresh fruit and vegetables. Grin I'm trying to delay the food shopping until tomorrow so it fits better with work&school packed lunches if they're open. We have tinned fruit/frozen veg but apparently this isn't good enough. Hmm The child is clearly spoilt!

@Jourdain11 That's so good your consultant is insisting on keeping going. My mum had chemo last year and was very worried they'd stop it due to covid.

Iheartmysmart · 02/01/2021 08:57

It’s probably a bit early but Wine for everyone who is struggling today. Save it for later.

Just been out with DDog. It’s flipping slippery out here today. How can people run on the pavement in this when I’m doing my best Bambi on the lake impression trying to stay upright while walking? Not fair.

Local paper this morning is making me cross. Headlines such as “tier 4 isn’t enough to stop the spread” and “close the schools now”. I really hope the media are held to account on this.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 02/01/2021 08:58
@Jourdain11 One thread deleted was the one mentioning at 8yo dying of Covid (oh, the dementors just loved parroting that!).

In other news: Police unable to break up French rave. This is the sort of civil unrest which I predict will happen over here, as the public show that they have simply HAD ENOUGH. Bring it on. Are there any protests in London today? It's difficult to find out, as the BBC tends to hush this up (on Saint Boris's orders).
@wanderings as soon as I saw that tragic news yesterday I knew there would be multiple threads of people using one family tragedy to fit their agenda. So I stayed away from here.

I have banned DH from watching the news as it just increases his anxiety but he has the bloody bbc app on his phone.

I think threads like that on the 'other place' do the same and then those threads just feed more and more of it.

TabbyStar · 02/01/2021 09:43

I've felt like this at times because of the total unfairness of who the Govt has decided is and isn't worthy of financial support. Hang on in there and chat with us. It's horrible to feel so powerless.

Here's an interesting article about how any other narrative than covid is being shut down, which made me feel less alone thecritic.co.uk/issues/november-2020/welcome-to-covidworld/#

AaahWoof · 02/01/2021 09:48

Thought it was time for a name change for a while.

None of this is fair, none of this is right. I'd relax a bit on schools if they said "look this year is a make the best of what we can and we'll get everyone to repeat it if they choose" - but there's not the infrastructure, space in schools or support in higher education for that to happen - so all that's going to happen is our poor kids will just be expected to pull the missed learning out of their arses.

I feel very very bleak this morning.

Aaah the "oh fuck what now" app as I term the notifications these days.
ISaySteadyOn · 02/01/2021 10:03

Thank you everyone. Got past the sad and am now feeling angry instead.

As the DfE has made it clear they don't actually value education, I am going to educate my children in the way I value. This includes the ability to bake a lemon meringue pie and look for signs of nature and life even in January.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 02/01/2021 10:20

My cousin is sharing a petition on Facebook to close all schools in tier 4 areas. This for me is a perfect example of dementoring.
You don't think your child is safe in school? Keep them home, withdraw, home school them. There are options. Just do not try and take that choice from others.

OP posts:
110APiccadilly · 02/01/2021 10:23

This seems like a good time to mention that I have a maths degree and some experience teaching/ supporting home educated children in the subject. (I was also home educated myself.) I'm happy for people to PM me if I can help anyone with home schooling maths. (Timing of answers will depend on when DD lets me have my hands free!)

110APiccadilly · 02/01/2021 10:27

*We have been discussing 2021/2022 holidays. Need something to bloody look forward to."

I wanted to book something for later in the year but DH says he doesn't think there's enough certainty we'll be allowed to go. Thing is, though he's probably right, once there is certainty, I suspect very quickly there'll be nothing left to book!

I saw a post on Twitter when the news about the London primary u-turn was leaked (don’t usually do Twitter but a friend sent me the link) saying that all schools should be closed until Easter at the earliest. I’ve never wanted to reach through a screen and punch someone more!
rosettesforjill · 02/01/2021 10:51

Easter!! Bloody hell. We're about to send DS 250 miles away to PIL for two weeks. I think could get a key worker place but I suspect the online learning may actually be a better option than the childcare in school. However - it means we will be separated for the fortnight and it hurts my heart! He loves his grandparents and will have an amazing time so I'm not worried about him particularly, it's more me Sad

His little sister will miss him too but I wanted to keep the consistency of nursery for her. Still not sure if I made the right decision...

110APiccadilly · 02/01/2021 10:53

Am not sure of the rules but am I permitted to say that I was amused by a suggestion elsewhere that we should all stop flaunting guidelines. I agree. Flaunting your guidelines is a terrible behaviour. Not everyone has such trim guidelines to flaunt, you know.

This already happened. There was a big rave in Bath i think, that took ages to close.

Then a couple of block parties on estates in London where the police had to retreat because they were outnumbered.

Are you on Twitter? MSM is no good for the important stuff.

I think that's what I'm going to have to do with the kids if schools close and I can't get them a vulnerable place. Stagger it between me and my parents a few weeks here and there.
Weedsnseeds1 · 02/01/2021 11:34

Amicisimma I have a vague memory, from school home economics, long, long, ago, of using brown paper / blotting paper (does that even exist any more) placed over a fat stain, then hot iron on top used to draw the fat into the paper.
Also talcum powder poured on ant left to sit on the stain, does the same thing.

chocolatesweets · 02/01/2021 11:39

Hi everyone, I found you again 🙈 thank God.

Hope everyone is holding out.

Long story short - I have nearly 3 year old twins. I'm a SAHM as my husband and I couldn't afford me to work pre covid - so really we were ahead of the curve 😂🙈.

Anyway, I feel so alone in this school thing. My friends are teachers with no kids. They just messaged the group hoping for snow (for the week they're due to reopen in Wales). I feel so unseen and upset.

Schools can close forever for all I care but just let us rent a place so our children can socialise and we can educate our kids together?

😭💔

flower11 · 02/01/2021 11:53

I'm so done with all this shit now. They are going to shut all the schools aren't they. They better not let it drag on and on like last time. It needs to be targeted with as soon as cases drop they are open again.
This is nothing about children. it's all about scared adults. My dd is better and safer in school for her mental health.

You're allowed to leave home for "education related to the formal curriculum" - you could presumably get kids together with a parent or other teaching them the national curriculum.

There are quite a few doctors calling out the comments that were made on R5 about children's wards full of covid patients as highly irresponsible.
