What are you doing with your Christmas food leftovers?

Turkey or ham sandwiches is probably a given.

Bubble and squeak from the spuds, sprouts and carrots ?

Fried Christmas pudding ?

Toasted stale Christmas cake with butter ?

Brie, camembert and stilton on toast (glass of port optional) ?

Or do just give everything to the dogs, cats and pigs ?

Most will get layered up inside some short crust pastry and frozen as ‘leftover pie’. Has literally everything in it apart from the spuds, as there’s never leftover mash or roasties in this house

Turkey Brie and cranberry butties for work tomorrow too.

But my old chubby Dalmatian will likely Hoover the rest of it up.

BeeFarseer · 26/12/2020 10:28

I am going to eat them.

I haven't planned beyond that, tbh. I have a fuzzy wine head this morning and will likely raid the fridge for a cold roast potato in a bit.

TangledLights · 26/12/2020 10:28

Just had Pakistanis as realised our fridge had gone off and leftovers could have been done for. Luckily just a fuse in the plug and everything still cold...disaster averted!

We are having leftover ham with bubble & squeak and fried eggs at about midday. Turkey sandwiches, cheeseboard and leftover trifle for dinner.

I never do Turkey soup/pie/curry etc. Re-heating is about as much as I can be bothered with after cooking Christmas dinner!

I make twice the amount so I can bubble and cold meat with cheese and pickles.

Anything left will become a pie.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 26/12/2020 10:34

Cold meat and chips and salad today. Bubble and squeak Sunday and probably Monday. Cheese and biscuits st every opportunity. It usually all gets eaten.

SantaMonicaPier · 26/12/2020 10:34

We're having a second Xmas dinner today! I deliberately cooked double of everything

Amazing autocorrect Grin

BeyondMyWits · 26/12/2020 10:38

No leftovers here, just cooked what we were going to eat. Different kind of Christmas. Might keep it that way.

Chemenger · 26/12/2020 10:40

Bubble and squeak, turkey ham and leek pie, buns with turkey and chorizo baked inside. Turkey broth with the stock from the carcass.

Skipsurvey · 26/12/2020 10:41

left over meat, cold roast potatoes,
cannot decide what to do with left over carrots and sprouts, i threw away the left over brocolli tops Blush
and i didnt put the carrots and sprouts in the fridge.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/12/2020 10:41

We only cook the amount needed for Christmas day, so no leftovers here other than lots of cheese. Might make bubble and squeak from scratch though, to be eaten with the afore mentioned cheese.

HollysBush · 26/12/2020 10:42

Stale Christmas cake? I’ll be taking it to work for a couple of weeks yet.

PickAChew · 26/12/2020 10:43

Stale Christmas cake? Proper Christmas cake doesn't go stale.

I'm just eating my leftovers. I didn't cook too much veg. Reheating some turkey, tonight, with the remains of the gravy and freshly cooked sides. The rest will be eaten in sandwiches. The boys will hoover up leftover pigs in blankets.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 26/12/2020 10:45

It's all going in the freezer (the veg as soup or stock). No one here is keen on turkey sandwiches or bubble and squeak. We cooked fairly minimally so as not to end up with much leftover.

Longdistance · 26/12/2020 10:45

We are turning our ham into a creamy garlic pasta. Though toady I’m getting the bread maker out and we’ll sit down and pick at bits. Not sure the ham will last for the pasta as it was delicious.

Mintjulia · 26/12/2020 10:45

I love the whole leftovers thing. I don't have to cook for days Smile

And when I do cook, it's risotto and soup.. I'll make and freeze some curry, I have winter salads with cheese, wrap & grill dates in bacon, make pasta carbonara. Nothing will be wasted and the freezer will be full of goodies.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 26/12/2020 10:45

Cheese will be eaten rather than frozen though. Cake keeps for ages.

WildRosie · 26/12/2020 10:46

Splendid.

HollysBush, toasting old Christmas cake is an option to make it palatable again, assuming you have any left. Some folk have it with cheese.

I don't get the 'Just had Pakistanis' thing, unless I've missed something.

Pakistanis??😂

feliznavidad2 · 26/12/2020 10:48

Please can someone share their favourite turkey curry recipe?

We are having turkey and ham pie this eve.

PriscillaChinchilla · 26/12/2020 10:49

We snack on the leftovers all through Boxing Day (cold roast potatoes with mayonnaise, slices of nut roast or duck with mustard, etc.) We don't have a huge amount of food, so I'm assuming any leftovers will be gone by tomorrow.

ZenNudist · 26/12/2020 10:49

Turkey sarnies for lunch. Make extra and freeze to sort dcs lubch fir fursr day or 2 of school. Freeze some turkey in its gravy for another meal. Possibly turkey and ham pie with suet pastry crust to use up diet from Christmas pudding.

Haven't cut the cake yet. I'm enjoying looking at it. Got a second Christmas pud to have at new years. Dh will eat up leftover Christmas pud then make a start on the cake.

Going to bubble and squeak leftover veg now I've seen this thread.

EternalOptimist7 · 26/12/2020 10:49

Eating them! I love pretty much everything cold. Might ask DH to make a Hairy Bikers pie with some of the turkey.

polkadotpjs · 26/12/2020 10:50

I'm gutted all my trifle was eaten and that I didn't do more potatoes. I might go to the shop and buy more veg and cook it again. Well a pared down version

AlternativePerspective · 26/12/2020 10:50

We cook as much as we’re going to eat. Did a turkey crown and have some left over from that but other than that nothing. The turkey I will make into a pie.

Cheese etc gets eaten anyway so that won’t go to waste.
