I would say for me soda , can't buy the cheap versions of coke.

Things I have a preference for:

Stokes mayonnaise and ketchup - don’t get the love for Hellman’s!
Garner pickled onions
Local jam/honey
Fresh bread
Real butter
Good quality meat
Good quality bedding
Nice hotels - agree that it needs to be better than home!
Interesting holidays, not too commercialised. Love a multi centre. Generally not all inclusive although do like Ikos now we have children.

Things I’m judgemental about:

Not caring about car seat safety - especially forward facing too early without very good reason. I know of people who think nothing about spending £££ on a fancy pram but then use cost as a reason for a cheap car seat.

Bad manners including rudeness at the table

Shinyflecks · 27/12/2020 06:32

Towels bought from primark 😶

Manteo · 27/12/2020 07:23

@theantsgomarchin

Hotels. I don't understand people that go on holiday and stay in 2* hotels that aren't even as comfortable as their own homes. I'd rather stay home!
I don't go on holiday for the hotel, I got to see new places. As long as the room is safe and clean I'm not that bothered. Yes I'm snobby about people who go on holiday and see nothing of the country. (Not saying this is you!).

@pinkhousesarebest

President butter seems to have some sort of cachet in the Uk? It’s pretty basic butter here in France.
Yep, and the person who said Baxter's Soup?! How can you be snobby about tinned soup? Grin
TravellingSpoon · 27/12/2020 08:23

I am an oat milk snob. Can only drink Oatly in my tea.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 27/12/2020 09:16

@GrapeLipBalm

I like Fairy fabric conditioner too as I like the smell. The Fairy dishwasher tablets are a bit pricey for me though
I buy them in bulk here www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B074KKMX11/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_Cdf6Fb5FKX2G3?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21
peaceanddove · 27/12/2020 10:21

I never used to be a car snob and neither was DH, who very happily drove his beloved Audi until it literally fell to pieces. Then we got a Range Rover Sport! Oh my God, it's like driving a dream. Can never go back now. I hasten to add that it's not white though [shudders]

Laughnaff · 27/12/2020 10:47

Some of these threads are horrible. Some people have to buy cheap products as it’s all they can afford. I detest people looking down at people, if your not in a highly paid job, drive a nice new car or live in a 650 grand house your frowned upon on mn.

Plussizejumpsuit · 27/12/2020 10:48

Totally agree with this.

Nice hotels - agree that it needs to be better than home!

Although sometimes budget will dictate otherwise! Eg central London Hotels in summer. Or if I'm just breaking a journey up I'm less fussy. But as a general rule this is what I go by.

LadyWithLapdog · 27/12/2020 11:01

@Laughnaff IKWYM but people change over time and they might reflect on this in years to come and cringe at their snobbishness. I think when the year has been as crap as 2020, you’d think well and hard about things that really matter. For some it may be being uncompromising about “quality” and if it doesn’t harm anyone, give them that. Others may think this is just branding and marketing and advertising and what an odd thing to clutter your brain with.

Ginfordinner · 27/12/2020 11:01

@Manteo I choose a destination over a hotel, but I have my limits. We have stayed in a few horrible places over the years, and I don't want to stay anywhere less comfortable than my home. That rules out camping for me Grin.

We don't stay in 5 star hotels as they are beyond our budget, nor do we slum it any more.

I must admit I used to envy these type of people when I was younger , but now I really don't! As you get older your priorities change so much and grateful for what I do have ( which isn't any of that!) I do hate snobby people who make it clear your 'beneath them. ' There's really no need.

I agree. I had no idea I was meant to feel humiliated and ashamed for driving an old car...I just get in it and drive to places. I also had no idea that if I'm not wearing real leather, expensive shoes that people would spontaneously vomit at the sight of me. Not did I know that surrounding people would think I'm disgusting when they see me pick up a duvet set in the supermarket. No wonder I have few friends if so many people like this exist amongst us.
MrDarcysMa · 27/12/2020 11:12

@formerbabe you've massively exaggerated here. The supermarket duvets one was mine - when did I ever say I think people who buy them are disgusting ? please show me that comment. Oh that's right, you can't because NOBODY SAID THAT.

MrDarcysMa · 27/12/2020 11:15

This has got me thinking though, even though I LOVE food I love Aldi and buy a lot of own brands. My friend refused to use my supermarket own brands ketchup recently and I couldn't believe it!

suziesue45 · 27/12/2020 11:19

Im mad on earl grey tea, I once got given some Fortnum & Mason earl grey and now can't drink any other brand. Everyone thinks I'm a tea snob

Yes perhaps I'm exaggerating but it's genuinely got me thinking. The mums at the school gate don't seem to like me very much, perhaps this is why? Do people judge others for their possessions like this? It never occurred to me that they do. But after reading this I think perhaps more people do than we think.

Juanbablo · 27/12/2020 11:27

Branston beans
Hellman's mayo
Heinz ketchup
Yorkshire Tea

MrDarcysMa · 27/12/2020 11:27

@formerbabe well I'm very sorry to hear that, maybe they're just cliquey - I wonder if people tend to be drawn to others who are more 'like' them in style as we assume we'll have more in common.
Or maybe they're just rude.

No it's fine...I'm not upset or anything. I think it's interesting. I always thought materialistic, superficial people were generally in the minority but now I'm wondering. Looking at the school my DC attends, it's in a very diverse area, the most popular mums do appear to be the wealthier ones.

CommanderBurnham · 27/12/2020 11:53

Ironed clothes, food, tidiness.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/12/2020 12:11

Oh I thought this was things we had high standards for ourselves

Janegrey333 · 27/12/2020 12:14

I love this, and why I adore my grandmother in law. She does this, and I suspect it's because she's not at all insecure so has no need to look down at others.

I find that people who post this sort of comment are doing so because someone has referred to something they think is tasteful and lambasted it. To put it another way, it’s touched a chord. Quite funny.

It’s veered a bit in a few directions!
thetoughhaveleft · 27/12/2020 12:18

Supermarkets. I've never been in an Aldi or Lidl. I believe in buying the best quality food I can.
