I would say for me soda , can't buy the cheap versions of coke.

OP posts:
donnager · 26/12/2020 22:59

I wouldn't say snobbery as some things are worth paying a little bit more because they are really better quality and last longer so my list goes:

Andrex
Fairy liquid
Domestos
Heinz
Lurpak and Prèsident
Good quality make up such as Huda Kattan's range, Tom Ford eye pallete, Chanel mascara
Felipe Berio oil
Whole Foods

:)

Plussizejumpsuit · 26/12/2020 23:13

I don't drink instant coffee it's just a totally different drink to actual coffee.

Plussizejumpsuit · 26/12/2020 23:17

But having thought about it there's a huge difference between being a snob for yourself as in I won't drink instant and thinking people are worse than me because they do that thing. So I'd call on having prefrences and the other being snobby. As snobby to me implies an element of judgement.

Supermarkets, Gin

Onedropbeat · 26/12/2020 23:23

And the mattress thread has reminded me that I am a snob about mattresses too.
Got to be sprung, turntable and natural fibres.
No foam matresses here thank you

Lludmilla · 26/12/2020 23:50

'Live Love Laugh' signs (and similar stuff like 'Life's not about the number of breaths you take, it's about the moments that take your breath away')
Hyphenated first names, especially those with 'individual' misspellings (Maddison-Lilly, Alisha-Jayde, etc)
People getting their kids' names/birth dates tattooed on themselves.
Oversized TVs, especially if they're mounted on the wall.
Baby showers/gender reveal parties.
People who have to have a brand-new car all the time.
Margarine.

Lludmilla · 26/12/2020 23:51

^ Just to add to the 'margarine' line of my pp - especially when people call it butter. Ugh.

pinkhousesarebest · 27/12/2020 00:20

President butter seems to have some sort of cachet in the Uk? It’s pretty basic butter here in France.

MissMarks · 27/12/2020 00:36

I am snobby about people who think they are highly educated but have no concept of empathy, emotional intelligence or social justice.

@MissMarks

Why?
MissMarks · 27/12/2020 00:57

Because they show a complete lack of any kind of intelligence that actually matters. I have a first in law from a Russel group, and a masters- but actually it means fuck all if you know nothing about real life and how other people live, and are unable to recognise your own privilege.

MissMarks · 27/12/2020 00:59

Such as yourself Janegray- picking on people’s level of literacy is hideous.

Janegrey333 · 27/12/2020 01:05

70 plate Land Rover

Aka a pimp mobile.

foreverandalways · 27/12/2020 01:05

Pretty much everything....I like to have the best of everything I can afford...why not....

Janegrey333 · 27/12/2020 01:05

@MissMarks

Is hideous really the best word in this instance?
Janegrey333 · 27/12/2020 01:09

It’s actually Russell.
MissMarks · 27/12/2020 01:10

Sorry- maybe I should just have said ‘looking down on someone because of their level of literacy simply highlights their own lack of intelligence and insecurity in relation to needing to feel intellectually superior in order to have any kind of worth. Probably not the best looking 😳’.

AdditionalCharacter · 27/12/2020 01:11

Eggs. Have to be free range otherwise I'll not buy them.

TheoriginalLEM · 27/12/2020 01:33

Again, not snobbery just being a half decent human being. Who doesnt buy free range eggs?

Onedropbeat · 27/12/2020 03:12

I didn’t think they were allowed non free range eggs in U.K. anymore after the campaigns from years ago

They certainly only sell free range in our supermarket

littlebow1 · 27/12/2020 04:42

I'm not really a snob about anything besides only drinking bottled water. I live in an extremely hard water area so I can really taste the difference.

krj2688 · 27/12/2020 05:26

Tea- Yorkshire
Beans- Branston
Red wine- I stick to the ones I know don't taste like vinegar
Ketchup - Heinz
Cereal- cheap cereal is tasteless and cardboard

cherryunripe · 27/12/2020 05:34

I think I'm probably a snob about all food and drink, make up and toiletries.......I just consider them nice things to have.

Shelby10 · 27/12/2020 05:38

Not really a snob about ‘stuff’ or food (I tend to buy cheap most of the time as can’t tell much of a difference between brands), but I am picky about where I live. A nice road in a nice area. I know we all have a different opinion on what’s nice, but for me it’s got to be quiet ish (maybe where people don’t generally hang out), people look after their properties and gardens, decent school’s etc. Not sure it’s being a snob, just a preference.

Maudythebudgie · 27/12/2020 05:58

@peaceanddove

I believe the true definition of good manners is to never make someone else feel uncomfortable? My best friend is from very old money. Every Christmas, her parents gave a huge, drinks party and invited the whole village. Her Mum would wear a full length evening gown, and her Dad would wear casual trousers and open neck shirt - to ensure no one felt either under, or over dressed. I always thought that was classy Smile
I love this, and why I adore my grandmother in law. She does this, and I suspect it's because she's not at all insecure so has no need to look down at others.
