Anyone fancy a new jigsaw thread?

Hello all.

I really enjoyed the last jigsaw thread which was going on during the summer and wondered if anyone fancied sharing any pictures of jigsaws that are currently being done?
I'm nearly finished with my Disney Christmas one. A nice easy one which has only taken me a couple of days.
The weather is grim today so I expect it will be finished very soon! I will post a full picture once it is complete.
Would love to see your jigsaws....

The pieces are weird shapes too which doesn't help!

Ahh yes Eurographics puzzles always drive me up the wall with their weird shaped pieces 😂

MsChatterbox · 13/03/2023 19:28

@PuzzleMania that does look really difficult!

MsChatterbox · 13/03/2023 19:28

Really enjoyed doing this one! Definitely more of a challenge than my others but not so difficult that it was frustrating.

I’ve just completed this one. Mostly to check there were no pieces missing before it goes to the charity shop.

Lovely to see this thread still slowly going along, at a nice gentle pace which seems quite fitting somehow!

I've done a good half dozen jigsaws over the past couple of months. Just about ended last year's purchases which means I can start on this winter's haul. The charity shops have given me some great bargains lately including some brand new, still in wrapping Ravensburger puzzles for a couple of £ a time. I guess these are puzzles that get bought as a gift for a non puzzler and eventually get donated.

I reckon I have the opportunity to get another couple done before the spring nights become much lighter which tends to signal the putting away of the puzzle board until the autumn...

I prefer natural light for jigsawing, so actually do more jigsaws over the spring/summer.
This is my most recent, not sure if I posted it already. Currently doing "starry night", and while it's a beautiful painting it's a tricky jigsaw as it's all blue and yellow.

On the still-wrapped jigsaws in charity shops, I think quite often people have a style that they like to make. For instance I really like colourful things generally and someone who knew I did jigsaws gave me a pride of lions on the savannah jigsaw. I appreciate the thought but it's really not for me. So. Much. Brown. I know I'll never finish it if I start so I'll probably donate it unopened.

I hope no-one minds me joining. I just finished a 1000 piece Ravensburger Beauty and the Beast puzzle which I borrowed from a friend. I’m giving it back next week so just had to do it again to check all the pieces were there! My next puzzle is an Elena Essex puzzle, which I haven’t tried before but it looks beautiful.

I did this one this morning, mostly to check all the pieces were there.

Welcome to the thread @InMySpareTime

I've done that snowy London jigsaw too. I remember quite enjoying it.
I currently have a jigsaw sitting on the table - boxed and not yet started. One from this year's charity shop hauls - I sometimes think I enjoy buying them as much as doing them!

That’s a lovely one @toastofthetown, nice and colourful.

It makes sense to do more puzzles in the natural light but doing them in the spring/summer just doesn’t feel right to me😆I like the cozy dark evenings of autumn/winter wrapped up warm with a good jigsaw.

toastofthetown · 24/04/2023 12:09

I know what you mean about puzzling feeling more wintry, but the natural light makes such a difference. And yesterday was pretty cold here, and I had the day to myself so I did another puzzle and watched rubbish movies on Prime Video.

I was inspired to pick up an Elena Essex puzzle on another MN thread and I loved it. I was a bit worried when sorting that it was going to a bit too tricky, but the picture was busy enough.

I’ve just had my first new puzzle with a missing piece 😫 Ravensburger have said they can’t replace the single piece due to their process, but they will replace the whole puzzle, so hopefully I can finish it soon. Other than that, I loved the puzzle. The whole Abandoned series really appeals to me; it’s just so fun and different. The pieces were so lovely and matte, and though I’d read it was really dark, I found the colours in it really vibrant.

I also had successful charity shop visit when I went into town to vote today: two brand new puzzles there!

This one took ages, clearly Van Gogh didn't think about the implications of jigsawing this when he painted it, so much stripy bluey white!

This one was fun

I managed to solve 4000 pieces in May, and only one puzzle so far in June. I’ve had two favourites from the last month. One was a 500 piece of Hogsmeade from Hogwarts Legacy one I had printed from PuzzleYou, which I’ve had a few puzzles from them and been consistently impressed. I also loved my first Eeboo puzzle (English Hedgerow). The pieces were so glossy, which I don’t always love, but they were bright and saturated, and the image was fun and busy.

@toastofthetown Love your EE & Eeboo puzzles! I've only just started doing jigsaw puzzles & am already addicted, but I'm still working out the sweet spot where an image I like makes a good jigsaw - so many fail on one attribute or the other.

DH & I did EE's Rainbow Kingdom last weekend & really enjoyed it apart from the bottom where the animals were so dark it was hard to tell them from the background, which was a pity as it's a lovely design & easy to divide into sections for beginners.

Some things I'd like advice on from more experienced dissectologists:

Should there always be a poster of the design in the box? I've bought new & secondhand puzzles & they don't all have them.

I finally checked out local charity shops & bought one puzzle. But when I opened the box, the puzzle was still mostly made & had been rolled up & put in the box like that! Do people really do that? Mind you, it was an absolute swine to take apart, so maybe someone started dismantling it & thought, 'Sod it'!

@ifIwerenotanandroid I love that puzzle so much, it’s on my long list of puzzles to get! I tend to pick puzzles with distinct sections of different colours or textures, as that at least gives a starting point. I spent a couple of weeks doing a puzzle with lots of different cats all together, with a blue sky on top, and trees that all look the same! It was a challenge!

In my experience (which isn’t much as I don’t have too many puzzles) puzzles come with a poster, though some major brands don’t. Ravensburger don’t, and I don’t think Falcon do either (though my only Falcon puzzle is a charity shop buy, albeit with the pieces still in the bag). I know Elena Essex, Eeboo and Galison do, as well as a few other random brands I have. I do have a pretty small puzzle collection though, and I’ve mostly done Ravensburger puzzles, so I’m not really used to having a poster. And the only puzzle I’ve ever not broken down fully is my Forgotten Arcade one with the missing piece, as I need to go through the replacement puzzle to see if the piece fits, but haven’t summoned the energy to find it yet!

Viviennemary · 10/06/2023 13:07

I am a bit disappointed that Ravensburger don't seem to be bringing out many new 1000 piece puzzles. But the Sherlock Holmes Gibson one is very good. I might get the others in the series. When buying puzzles from a charity shop I hate it when the previous owner has separated the edge pieces and put them in a little bag. I actually enjoying sorting out the edge pieces at the start.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 10/06/2023 13:52

Lovely to see this thread still going. I tend to only do jigsaws in winter because I have an allotment which takes up a lot of free time in summer but I agree that natural light makes a big difference. I wish I could find more 500 piece ones, 1000 take too long and as we limited space they tend to be too big.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 10/06/2023 19:45

We are getting seriously addicted: just did a 300 & a 500 in one day! Search ebay for jigsaw 250 (or 300, or 500). I've got some 1000s, but it's fun to do smaller, quicker ones.

MadisonAvenue · 02/07/2023 19:08

I’ve spent 3 hours doing this 500 piece one this afternoon, it’s one someone gave me and I’d forgotten how quickly a 500 piece puzzle goes together.

reprehensibleme · 02/07/2023 19:14

MadisonAvenue, it's funny, isn't it, how a 1000 piece puzzle doesn't take twice as long as a 500 piece Grin - there's probably a technical time and motion explanation.

I can finish a 500 piece in an afternoon whereas a 1000 piece can take daaaays.

Samcro · 02/07/2023 20:04

Just did this one , was a nightmare
enjoying doing a Freddie mercury one now
