How much trouble am I in? (Food poisoning)

DP made home made sushi.

I ate some with what I thought were black sesame seeds on it. Tasted weird. Turns out the black stuff was from an old jar of caviar DP found at the back of the fridge... that went out of date in 2017 Envy (not envy)

What now? Am I going to die?

Morning OP. How are we this morning?

Idappreciateyourcooperation · 19/12/2020 08:21

Lumpfish caviar is not caviar by the way... caviar are Black Sea Sturgeon roe and cost a pretty penny...

Beamur · 19/12/2020 08:35

Just checking in to see if OP had made it through the night.

DurhamDurham · 19/12/2020 08:38

I'm hopeful for the op, my daughter ate quite a lot of raw chicken when she came home drunk as a teen Hmm and apparently it was the fact that she had consumed a fair amount of vodka that kept her alive. It 'cooked' the chicken.

Checking in to see if OP is alive...

SapphosRock · 19/12/2020 09:45

Morning all.
Well I’ve been up in the night dealing with vomit... but it came from our 10 month old rather than myself.

DP assured me the baby didn’t eat any sushi (baby was under DP’s charge yesterday afternoon) . The story has now changed to ‘it was only a bit of the sushi rice’.

Thankfully baby seems fine now. No rumblings to report here either.

Baby and I are going to lie low for the next 48 hours just in case.

I fear the worst 🥀⚰

🧟‍♂️ next?

Beamur · 19/12/2020 09:49

I think if you haven't been ill by now then you're in the clear. Hope baby is better soon, I hate it when they are poorly in the night.

UntamedWisteria · 19/12/2020 09:58

You're more at risk from the rice than the fake caviar OP.

Hope the rice wasn't left lying around at room temperature as it can harbour some really nasty bugs.

The fake caviar is preserved and probably would still have been safe to eat in 5 years time, just might have lost a bit of texture.

Glad you're OK! I've smote your DH - should take a little while to kick in but at some stage today he will experience mild-to-moderate Wrath of God.

Nonamesavail · 19/12/2020 10:05

Food poisoning usually happens quite quick after eating.

Strawberrycreamsundae · 19/12/2020 10:10

@MissBridgetJones

Some of these comments have made my night.

Tell Jesus I say hi, and save the little Spurgeon's as your new pets. Just make sure you give them a good rise before popping in the fish tank.

little Spurgeon’s

😂😂😂😂

dysoncansuckit · 19/12/2020 11:02

What on earth did he feed the poor wee baby that made him sick? I'd be pissed

Spittingchestnuts · 19/12/2020 11:06

Food poisoning usually happens quite quick after eating

My dh can testify to the fact it can occur three days after eating too as verified by hospital tests.

Spittingchestnuts · 19/12/2020 11:17

Hope your baby feels better soon op.

[Why can't blokes exercise some common sense about this sort of stuff!]

SmileyClare · 19/12/2020 11:24

Yeah it's one thing to be a bit lax with food hygiene and sell by dates with the sturdy adults in the house, but to feed a baby the sushi rice isn't funny at all. Liven up mate!
Have a stern word with dp, Op buy him a food hygiene book for Christmas

Hope you're all better soon.

Katinski · 19/12/2020 12:03

Hope you and Babe have a quiet uneventful day today, OP.
Meanwhile, I've got this rhyme for you.

Caviar comes from the virgin sturgeon,
The virgin sturgeon's a very fine fish,
The virgin sturgeon needs no urgin',
That's why caviar is my dish.

Gave some caviar to my mother
When she was ill in bed with flu,
Now I've got a baby brother,
That's what caviar does for you!

Haha excellent rhyme thank you StarStarStarStarStar

Baby and I still fine. Now the five year old is complaining she feels sick. And she wouldn't touch sushi with a barge pole.

Hopefully you’re ok if you’ve handled your baby vomiting without chucking up yourself and your baby gets better soon. I’ve always found food poisoning to come on fairly quickly. I had two nasty bouts while travelling. Our group all had food poisoning after having Chinese in a random Indian hostel (bad idea in hindsight). It was awful. I was sharing a room with a girl I’d known for about a week and we both had quite severe D&V. Our whole group then had a 12 hour mini bus ride the next day. Many imodiums were had by all but we were still stopping quite regularly for people to vomit. I was out there for a month and you can tell from pictures whether they were taken pre or post food poisoning as I got quite skinny.

citycitycity · 19/12/2020 21:19

Anyone else getting the toilet roll advert 😂

Did DP eat any of the fish of death?

FestiveStuffing · 20/12/2020 05:22

I'm sure it's fine. Generally though, the words 'homemade' and 'sushi' shouldn't be uttered together by anyone with anything less than scrupulous attention to food hygiene.
