How much trouble am I in? (Food poisoning)

DP made home made sushi.

I ate some with what I thought were black sesame seeds on it. Tasted weird. Turns out the black stuff was from an old jar of caviar DP found at the back of the fridge... that went out of date in 2017 Envy (not envy)

What now? Am I going to die?

Oh god. Fingers crossed for you OP!

ArseholesOnToast · 18/12/2020 18:19

It’s often preserved in salt. If it was unopened you’ll probably be ok. Was it a use by or a best before date?

If it was fresh then that only lasts a matter of days before going off and stinking like rotten things stink!

Beamur · 18/12/2020 18:19

@Passmeabottlemrjones

Don't take immodium - it's only really meant to be used for emergencies (ie. When you can't guarantee a nearby bog) isn't it, it's grim stuff, and the reason you get the shits is to try and eliminate the toxins anyway.
This is true. It's better to let you body flush out the germs, but it can be worth having to hand just in case!
SmileyClare · 18/12/2020 18:21

Caviar always tastes weird so don't worry about that. Did dp eat it too? or did he make the "special" ones with black bits on just for you? Shock

Who on earth spends a fortune of caviar and doesn't eat it for 3 years? It's about £20 a tin isn't it?

Shmithecat2 · 18/12/2020 18:21

@chocolatesaltyxmaspudballs

Ew, I once got food poisoning from langoustines in a paella in Spain. Was horrific. Up all night puking n shitting, didn't know which way to approach the toilet. Didn't even lose any weight either.

Well, that's disappointing. Weight loss is usually the silver lining to that sort of thing. I lost 7lb from undercooked chicken. And over 3lb from a about of gastro.

Chanandlerbong01 · 18/12/2020 18:23

Don’t have immodium, you want it all out of your system! That will keep it in so the bacteria can keep spreading. Avoid your favourite foods for now so that you don’t get put off of them in future. I once had bad food poisoning and was being sick on the floor whilst sat on the toilet, maybe put a bucket in the bathroom as a back up

CantBeAssed · 18/12/2020 18:23

@pickypolly..too funny😂

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 18/12/2020 18:26

Caviar £20 a tin? lol

I8toys · 18/12/2020 18:28

Have you sorted your will?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 18/12/2020 18:30

Need to know if your DH ate it!

I bet he turns out to be one of those ridiculously robust people , like the one who ate the chicken that had been in the car for three days and had gone green Xmas Envy

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 18/12/2020 18:33

Oh dear, I'm scared for you.

UntamedWisteria · 18/12/2020 18:35

Was it real caviar or just lumpfish roe?

assuming not real, as no-one would 'forget' about it. If the jar hadn't previously been opened you should be absolutely fine.

TeddyIsaHe · 18/12/2020 18:36

Where can I get £20 caviar?!

Op you MIGHT be ok if it’s that pasteurised fake supermarket caviar in a jar. They’re shelf stable for months and months and UHT etc so if it was unopened I doubt it would be too terrible.

Fresh cav? Good luck Flowers

cdtaylornats · 18/12/2020 18:36

When I had food poisoning the nurse recommended drinking warm coke to stay hydrated.

Jeremyironseverything · 18/12/2020 18:40

At least you have time to plan your funeral down to the last detail.

TheWichitaWineOne · 18/12/2020 18:41

^^This was my initial reaction. Although whether you want to take food advice from someone called ArseholesOnToast is up to you Grin Xmas Grin

emmathedilemma · 18/12/2020 18:42

Weirdest stealth brag post ever about having out of date caviar in the fridge!
Never mind, I guess we should let her have one before she passes away. Unlikely to see the morning in my experience.

SapphosRock · 18/12/2020 18:42

This is the offending pot. I think we were given it for Christmas many years ago.

There are quite a few E numbers and preservatives in the ingredients list which is encouraging.

How have you managed to clean the inside of your fridge over the last three years without spotting a jar of caviar lurking from 2017?

Your insides might be more robust than you give them credit for.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 18/12/2020 18:45

You really must be fucked OP. Nobody's even bothered to pick you up on your 'mostly vegan' post.

"Shall we...? Nah, no point, she's probably dead already."

evrey · 18/12/2020 18:47

Hopefully you have managed to throw up the worst of it. If you both get ill bag the toilet for yourself Wink after all its his fault , he can shit in the garden Smile . fingers crossed for you.

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 18/12/2020 18:47

@SapphosRock

No vodka in the house. Just Baileys which I don't think will help matters.
Are you insane??? (The caviar obviously affecting your faculties) baileys ALWAYS helps, especially at Christmas
BrutusMcDogface · 18/12/2020 18:48

I hope you’re ok.

Have you really not cleaned your fridge out since 2017, though?! I thought I was slovenly! 🤣😉

SapphosRock · 18/12/2020 18:48

I've spotted it in the fridge many times but thought to myself 'that belongs to DP' and left it alone.

DP didn't eat any as needed to do a zoom call. Told me to help myself.

I am really confident you won't get sick

Either that or you will be hallucinating so bad you will meet Jesus at 19:49.
