How much trouble am I in? (Food poisoning)

SapphosRock · 18/12/2020 17:44

DP made home made sushi.

I ate some with what I thought were black sesame seeds on it. Tasted weird. Turns out the black stuff was from an old jar of caviar DP found at the back of the fridge... that went out of date in 2017 Envy (not envy)

What now? Am I going to die?
@mrsPinkcock
What kind of food stuff items, have you eaten out of date then??
Was it something by accident you eat out of date slightly that started susprising tasted ok,maybe a bit better with mature flavour of food.

I know a few food stuff is ok to eat out of date,
I know eating Christmas marizipan cake is ok,nothing wrong eating it out of date taste exactly the same no difference.

And cheese is something you can eat out of date,along as cut off bit dodgy off colour first of all..
In the last few months I’ve had 3 years out of date mushy peas, 2 years out of date macaroni cheese, tinned mackerel and tuna. Jarred peppers a year out of date.

They were all fine. Out of date garlic sauce however is not Envy

@MorganKitten there's loss of vegan sushi out there. It's the rice that qualifies it as sushi not the fish.

Unopened Containers

Commercial fresh caviar in tin containers or glass jars has a limited shelf life. Ideal temperatures for storing caviar in unopened containers is between 25 and 29 degrees Fahrenheit. Under these conditions, the vacuum-sealed jars of roe remain safe to eat for as long as six weeks. In an unopened tin, the caviar lasts about two weeks. Store the unopened caviar containers in the bottom drawer of your refrigerator, covered with a plastic storage bag full of ice. Replace the ice as it melts to ensure that the caviar is kept as cold as possible.
Opened Containers

Once a jar or tin of fresh caviar is opened, air enters and create the perfect environment for dangerous bacteria to grow and multiply. If you are serving caviar, keep in mind that perishable foods keep for only two hours unrefrigerated, and one hour if the temperatures in the serving area are 90 F or above, before they need to be discarded. Refrigerated within this time frame, caviar keeps for two to three days, provided the container is resealed and stored in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator, under a bag of ice.
Pasteurized Product

Pasteurized caviar has a longer shelf life than fresh caviar. The pasteurization process partially cooks the caviar, killing dangerous bacteria before the roe is stored in a vacuum-sealed container. Once the caviar is packed, an unopened container lasts for as long as 15 months. Once opened, the same rules as unpasteurized roe apply -- seal the container and place it in the refrigerator's bottom drawer, under an ice pack. If not eaten within seven days, discard refrigerated, pasteurized caviar.

Found that infomration on the web

Just make sure they don’t mark it as covid related. At least die in style.

Do you have life insurance?Wink

thosetalesofunexpected · 18/12/2020 19:31

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants
I agree, like the way you put your comments across.😀

perditaplum · 18/12/2020 19:31

you'll be better than you would be if you had eaten raw kidney beans

Jenasaurus · 18/12/2020 19:34

Ive gone down a rabbit hole now, did you know that raw sprouts are listed on the 10 most likely to give you food poisioning. I had no idea, apparently they carry salomenella before they are cooked, not that i would be tempted to eat a raw sprout

SapphosRock · 18/12/2020 19:36

Oh no. I've got really bad stomach cramps 😭

Hoping it's psychosomatic.

I am more concerned about the state of your fridge if caviars been there for at least three years? I am far from a domestic goddess btw .

thepeopleversuswork · 18/12/2020 19:40

If its any relief I ate a salad earlier with (literally) mouldy olives in it, didn't realise until I'd finished the sell-by was March. Six hours ago. And I'm fine...

Colouringaddict · 18/12/2020 19:42

@SapphosRock

I've spotted it in the fridge many times but thought to myself 'that belongs to DP' and left it alone.

DP didn't eat any as needed to do a zoom call. Told me to help myself.

He set you up!
Check your life insurance!
Spittingchestnuts · 18/12/2020 19:43

I'm assuming that's raw bean sprouts Jenasaurus in terms of being a high risk for food poisoning? Although some people cannot easily digest uncooked Brussels sprouts.

Omeara · 18/12/2020 19:45

I think your husband is trying to bump you off. Maybe he hasn't bought you a Christmas present and doesn't want to confess.

I like fish generally but I think caviar is rank at the best of times (not that I've had it often and very likely not the top end stuff). I don't know if I could tell if it was off, tastes like it is anyway to me!

Hope you're okay OP, I have emetophobia and reading this has made my stomach go funny!

Gibble1 · 18/12/2020 19:48

It’s 19:49...

Redburnett · 18/12/2020 19:49

Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. Generally the advice is to let the body eliminate the infection as quickly as possible, so no immodium or similar. In your position I would probably try garlic, and maybe rehydration salts if much expelling of gut contents going on.
But seek medical advice if necessary.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 18/12/2020 19:49

@SummerHouse

I am really confident you won't get sick

Either that or you will be hallucinating so bad you will meet Jesus at 19:49.

I am here, my child Halo
hadesinahalfahell · 18/12/2020 19:50

I eat food that is supposedly way out of date all the time and nothing has ever happened to me.

Redburnett · 18/12/2020 19:51

PS I ate ancient raw Brussels sprouts the other day and lived.

rslsys · 18/12/2020 19:55

Was your DP on a Zoom call to your Insurance Broker, upping the pay-out in the event of your demise?

Saw a really useful (but telling) post on a 'What do I need in my new Bathroom?' thread the other day. A washbasin you can reach whilst seated on the toilet . . . .

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 18/12/2020 19:56

@giletrouge

OP, you will not die, but you will give birth to many tiny sturgeon.

daisyjgrey · 18/12/2020 19:57

I once ate a fair amount of slightly gone off prawns. Had stomach cramps no didn't feel amazing. Drank A LOT of water and ate a whole big pot of organic live yoghurt and the fall out was minimal.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 18/12/2020 20:00

My thoughts and commiserations towards your poor, tortured butthole in this time of impending doom. :(

garlictwist · 18/12/2020 20:02

@SingleWontMingle ha ha, me!

Marylou62 · 18/12/2020 20:03

I'm watching this thread! Not as good as a live birth thread but still..

I once had food poisoning in Ecuador, high in the Andes from ceviche, after only eating one prawn, with no loo roll, change of clothes, pain relief or mobile (1987) I staggered for miles puking and p....You can imagine the rest...God what a memory..I was given a bin bag to sit in when I was 'rescued'!

VicMackey · 18/12/2020 20:04

I don’t get why a vegan ate fish eggs ...however, I hope they’re going to be okay
