How much trouble am I in? (Food poisoning)

222 replies

SapphosRock · 18/12/2020 17:44

DP made home made sushi.

I ate some with what I thought were black sesame seeds on it. Tasted weird. Turns out the black stuff was from an old jar of caviar DP found at the back of the fridge... that went out of date in 2017 Envy (not envy)

What now? Am I going to die?

Sorry Op but this thread Grin

"You'll be hallucinating so bad you'll meet Jesus at 19.49" possibly wins the thread.

Good luck OP. I am willing to bet the cramps are psychosomatic.

Hope so for your sake x

Same, why am I drawn to things that will make me feel anxious?

Hope you’re OK OP

As Jenasaurus said it is pasteurized and also heavily salted. Unless it smells of rotten fish you don't have to worry. You had a tiny amount and you've made yourself sick, no need to worry. Have some yoghurt and relax Smile.

To determine whether the cramps are psychosomatic, dp must eat some "blind" for control purposes.

@TheWichitaWineOne

It’s often preserved in salt. If it was unopened you’ll probably be ok. Was it a use by or a best before date

^^This was my initial reaction. Although whether you want to take food advice from someone called ArseholesOnToast is up to you Grin Xmas Grin

Terrible advice. Your body needs to flush it out (and to be frank it'll come out one end if it isn't the other. Imodium won't stop that).

Hope you'll be ok OP.

I hope you are ok op and the stomach cramps don't develop in to anything more.

As I recall less good quality caviar has more salt, which (hopefully) has a preservative effect, so if it was bought from a supermarket, you may be ok! And I"m not sure but wouldn't really putrid fish eggs smell so rank that you wouldn't be able to get your nose near them, never mind eat them!

That stuff's so salty it will be fine to eat till the Second Coming, OP.

Start hydrating. If food poisoning kicks in, Your biggest risk is dehydration. It won’t hurt you to make sure you drink plenty of water today and it might help.

Oh dear OP, I feel so sorry for you. I hope this is short lived misery if there is any.

Bloody MN. You lot! You incited me to buy caviar for 'blinis and smoked salmon and caviar' for Xmas breakfast (!) and now I'm ... I won't say it. But I suspect OP is too. I was so excited as well.

Well the cramps got worse and I had to go to the loo ASAP. I thought that was the beginning of the end. It was around 19.49 come to think of it.

Cramps have subsided. Just having a herbal tea. Feeling ok but not convinced I'm out of the woods yet.

I've had caviar gone bad - left out then refrigerated for weeks in the fridge.

I had bad stomach cramps then violent runs a few hours later. I was fine after that but drank plenty of fluids. My housemate at the time was fine. He was from Sweden and ate rotten fish as a delicacy.

@2018SoFarSoGreat
Ah don't feel bad Smile. We eat it a lot - sourcream, raw chopped onions and lumpfish caviar. It's delicious, just don't stick your nose down the glass the minute you open it, wait a little. ( Lumpfish caviar isn't expensive, then you should go for sturgeon caviarXmas Wink ).
