With one week to go I am starting to curate our festive cheese selection. So far we have

Soft goats cheese with cranberries and cinnamon
Pecorino
Danish blue
Applewood smoked cheddar
Brie
A really sharp cheddar which makes your face pinch

What's on yours?!

Everything from Paxton & Whitfield.

And I'm glad it's only being delivered on 23rd because after reading through this thread I'd be tucking into them right now if they were here.

40somethingJBJ · 18/12/2020 17:55

Applewood cheddar
Wensleydale with cranberry
Stilton and apricot
Cornish blue
Brie
Double Gloucester with chives

Caramelised onion chutney, pickled onions and sable grapes.

Ooh I love a hood cheese board!

Nefelibata86 · 18/12/2020 20:32

There was a thread the other day where a particular cheddar was really highly rated by lots of people. Does anyone know which it was?

Interested in this thread?

Durham Camembert
Manchego
President Brie (kids live it)
Epoisses (don't think I've spelt that right)
Harries Blue
Applewood cheddar
I'll seek out some other gems from the farmers market this weekend
Always have caramelised chutney and I have some lovely cheese crackers but never ever will there be apples or grapes on my cheeseboard - ever! Fruit has no business in a cheese board

saneandwelladjustedallegedly · 18/12/2020 21:16

Love it
Hatties blue

saneandwelladjustedallegedly · 18/12/2020 21:17

Caramelised ONION chutney - I think it's time for my bed!

ohidoliketobe · 18/12/2020 21:20

Ordered one from a deli, comes with wedges of the following :
Red Crunch", Tasty Lancashire, Crumbly Lancashire, Fiery Cheddar, Kick-Ass Charcoal Cheddar, Sticky Toffee Cheddar, Sage Derby, French Brie, Greenfield's Wensleydale & Apricots, Wensleydale & Cranberries, Lancashire and Caramelised onion, "Ploughmans Pickle", Sandham's Ogden's original extra strong & creamy cheddar, Chilli & Lime, Blue Stilton, Smoked Lancashire.
It's for 5 of us over several days in theory, but I will try my best to demolish it single handily. I love cheese

Plump82 · 18/12/2020 21:57

@Neptunesgiraffe

A really strong extra mature cheddar, an amazing blue cheese in a pot that Tesco only sell at Christmas, Wensleydale and cranberry and possibly a brie. I also put grapes, apple slices, crystalised ginger, a couple of chutneys, some cornichons and pickles onions and some slices of Christmas cake.
I decided on the Tesco blue in the pot. Im glad its been mentioned as being good!
RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 18/12/2020 22:14

Brie
smoked cheddar
chistmas pudding cheddar
orange and whisky cheddar
Just Jane Mature cheddar
Steep hill vintage cheddar
red leicester

It's a little cheddar heavy Blush and it's all for me Blush Blush it will probably keep me going for a lot long than christmas.

Everything except the brie is from a local cheese shop/maker The Mouse House seeing as I'm not doing a lot of in person shopping right now, it's my attempt at shopping local Wink

Morogo · 18/12/2020 22:15

Blue Murder
Gouda with garlic and nettle
Camembert
Minger
Fat cow
Orkney Smoked Cheddar with Garlic
Whisky Dunlop
Also got a couple of nice cheddar truckles from tesco!

What's on your Christmas cheeseboard?
foodtoorder · 18/12/2020 22:20

I bought a cheddar that has truffle in it.
Balanced out nicely by babybel for the 3 year old!

Neptunesgiraffe · 19/12/2020 10:44

@Plump82
I really hope it's the same this year. It's usually excellent and we eat a couple of pots in the run up to Xmas. But I (foolishly!) bought one pot and now there are none left at my Tesco.

Hantie · 19/12/2020 10:51

So far...
Baron Bigod
Stilton
Truckle of cheddar

Probably going to add some applewood cheddar, Port Salut and a Mont D'or to bake.

moglovesmincepies · 19/12/2020 10:53

We're a bit boring here.
Wensleydale and cranberry
Wensleydale
Wensleydale with pineapple
Hot cheddar
Boursin
Red fox Red Leicester

bendmeoverbackwards · 19/12/2020 10:55

I can’t seem to find Cornish Yarg anywhere, where are you buying it from?

Also can anyone recommend a mild blue cheese? Don’t like Stilton, too strong.

doingitforthefrill · 19/12/2020 12:15

I’m going to be really boring and say I can’t beat a bit of Edam! Could quite easily demolish the whole bit on its on and by myself..

But also our cheeseboard requires -
Brie
Camembert
Stilton
Smoked cheddar
Boursin

BiddyPop · 19/12/2020 13:02

The end of a puece if 18mth compte (from when I last got to cheese shop in Sept)
A lovely sharp cheddar
Slice of Camembert that was still hard on wed so should be lovely and soft by next Friday
Decent slice of Stilton
Ballinrostig mature - a hard cheese

I'd like to get some goats cheese but I'm happy enough at that

AFingerofFudge · 19/12/2020 13:06

Godsells Holy Smoked
Snowdonia Black Bomber
Snowdonia Green Thunder
Boursin

There'll probably be more ..

Sairafina · 20/12/2020 12:35

The temptation to break into the cheeseboard early is strong.

Must try and seek out a truffled cheese, I didn't even know that was a thing!

OP posts:
wowfudge · 20/12/2020 12:39

Brillat Savarin
Black Bomber
Farmhouse Red Leicester
Cheshire Blue
Cornish Cruncher with balsamic onion
Boursin with black pepper

Something for everyone.

TonTonMacoute · 20/12/2020 12:46

Half a Stilton - that's it!

FlibbertyGiblets · 20/12/2020 13:03

Black Bomber
Harlech
Roquefort
A camembert for baking

God I love cheese.

I've got pickled onions made by neighbour. Membrillo, chutney. And really nice crackers from Tesco, the rosemary ones are really quite special. Usually found by the Ritz crackers.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/12/2020 13:13

Part of our Christmas cheeseboard is our present from my FIL - he lives in Cornwall, and has sent us a selection of Cornish cheeses. He posted them, without anything in the package to keep them cool, and they took 6 days to arrive.

I'm thinking they may be quite ripe, but should still be nice!!

RoseZinfandel · 20/12/2020 13:31

We have:

Brie and Camembert
Yorkshire Red and Manchego
Roquefort
Wensleydale with some sort of Christmassy flavouring - I think possibly mince pie.

Still planning to get a wedge of Black bomber, and either some Stilton or St Agur.

We have various chutneys, pickles, nuts and crackers to accompany, but haven't bought any grapes or olives yet, as want them as fresh as possible.

RoseZinfandel · 20/12/2020 13:37

@FlibbertyGiblets I'm jealous, I absolutely love Harlech cheese, but nowhere sells it around here!
