What's on your Christmas cheeseboard?

With one week to go I am starting to curate our festive cheese selection. So far we have

Soft goats cheese with cranberries and cinnamon
Pecorino
Danish blue
Applewood smoked cheddar
Brie
A really sharp cheddar which makes your face pinch

What's on yours?!

OP posts:
FestiveDigestives · 20/12/2020 13:42

Mixture of what me/DH and the kids like

Camembert
Cambezola
Brie
Stilton
Smoked cheddar
Herby soft cheese of some sort
Strong cheddar with caramelised onions
Wensleydale with cranberries

I’d usually add in something gooey and goaty for DH, but we’ve agreed the above is enough for four people Grin.
@FlibbertyGiblets I'm jealous, I absolutely love Harlech cheese, but nowhere sells it around here!
They have it in some waitroses on the Deli counter. It is divine isn't it!

QueenofLouisiana · 20/12/2020 14:49

No idea! Our regular cheesemonger is putting a selection together for us. He knows what we like (and things we’ve tried and never bought again!) so it should have some good choices.

Have you had the Tunworth? Everyone raves about it!

Blueberrycreampie · 20/12/2020 14:59

I bought my MIL some white Stilton with apricots, which she loved and asked me to get her some more. That was in M&S.

goose1964 · 20/12/2020 16:46

God knows how many DH has bought, Off the top of my head proper cheddar, cheddar with horseradish, ditto cider and apple , 2 goats cheeses, brie, camembert for making, cambazola. That's for 3 adults but one can't eat cows milk cheeses.

FestiveDigestives · 20/12/2020 17:25

Cheddar with horseradish is making my mouth water @goose1964

I once had a cheese in a very posh deli/come sit in place in South Kensington just off the museums. It was awesome! Creamy but strong and the rind although quite soft had a texture as if it had sugar running through it but it wasn't sweet. I got pissed on the lovely red wine and forgot to ask what it was. Ten years I've searched. Can't even find the cheese shop now so may have closed down. Any cheese aficionados able to assist?

Some kind of washed rind cheese?

delilahbucket · 20/12/2020 18:42

So far, truffle cheddar, Boursin and brie. I've yet to buy some blue and haven't decided which. There's usually some kind of Wensleydale that makes an appearance too.

Eminybob · 20/12/2020 18:45

Epoisses
Blue Brie
Chilli cheddar

It’s only me that eats it so I had to be really restrained and only get 3.

hospitalheist · 20/12/2020 19:03

@Sexnotgender yes spit on, but which one? I've had loads of washed rind cheeses since but it had that granular texture. Infuriating!

Sexnotgender · 20/12/2020 19:07

@hospitalheist Maroilles?

MrsBeltane · 20/12/2020 19:08

Shropshire blue
Brie
Cornish Yarg

Might be something else that I like the look of when I go shopping. Don't like cheese with bits in or flavourings.

cortex10 · 20/12/2020 19:13

Lincolnshire Poacher
Colston Bassett Stilton
Lord London
Pavé Cobble

EverybodystalkingaboutJamie · 20/12/2020 19:20

It's not looking good this year, normally we take a trip to Neal's Yard Dairy and we're relying on Ocado, who are now officially shite for cheese...grumble, grumble!

Brie de Meaux
Double Barrell 2 year Old Poacher
Shropshire Blue
Pave D'Affinois

Peter's Yard biscuits.

EverybodystalkingaboutJamie · 20/12/2020 19:24

@bendmeoverbackwards

I can’t seem to find Cornish Yarg anywhere, where are you buying it from?

Also can anyone recommend a mild blue cheese? Don’t like Stilton, too strong.

Waitrose sells Yarg. Have you tried Roquefort - it's strong but fruity - serve it with something sweet. Or Shropshire Blue.
didireallysaythat · 20/12/2020 19:30

Do you have a day of cheese? I'm liking the idea of no cooking and just cheese. These are just instead of pudding, right?

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 20/12/2020 19:33

I don't find stilton tastes of much, what is a stronger but softer blue cheese?

CoffeeRunner · 20/12/2020 19:34

Extra mature cheddar.
Smoked cheese (the softish one).
Red Leicester.

I may also get a bit of Wensleydale. And some Dairylea.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 21/12/2020 18:28

My cheese has arrived (I was getting a little worried Grin) the brie and the dairylea came via supermarket.

What's on your Christmas cheeseboard?
Yorkshireswithallroasts · 21/12/2020 18:39

Cornish Cruncher
Lincolnshire poacher
Barkham blue
Stilton
Baron Bigod
Brie
Port Salut
Perl Las
Perl Wen

There’s only 3 of us but I got a bit carried away... I’ll bake some nice bread to go with it too if I can be bothered, if not, we’ve got a load of crackers.

longtompot · 21/12/2020 18:53

We have
Manchego
Stilton
Dolchelatte
Strong cheddar
Goats cheese
Brie
Camembert
Wensleydale with cranberries and one with apricots
Smoked cheese

Probably too much, but it's for Christmas and New Years too.

longtompot · 21/12/2020 18:54
