I am pleased that Harry and Meghan are making a success of things.

It’s been such an eventful year for everyone with uncertainty and being pulled out of our normal way of life. It’s good to see people who left what might be considered a “golden cage” and find a way to fly.

It gives me hope and confidence that even though we may not have connections and gorgeous looks, we can step out and do things differently and still be ok

Yes, so pleased two jobless, over-privileged multi-millionaires (one of whom has never had to do a day's work in his life) have managed to retain the royal titles they were gifted so that they can cash in on them overseas without needing to give anything back to the country that gave them the titles (and money) in the first place. Fab!

Not sure how it applies to the rest of us though.

Well, yes.“

Well, they could “cash in” on their titles staying in the UK and waving at us plebs,
or they could try something more modern and risky.
And they chose the latter and have made it happen. Good for them.
I imagine they will have to work hard for Netflix and Spotify, American companies will want value for their money.
Everyone’s story can inspire, and there are many others along similar lines. We have choices and we have assets (they don’t have to monetary, they could be educational assets) and networks, however modest they may be. And we can go out and take risks and leave “safe” yet toxic environments. And yes, thrive 😊

You are very confused.

If they had stayed in the Uk they wouldn't have been able to cash in on their titles because a) they'd be stuck doing royal duties and b) they'd be under the eye of Buckingham Palace.

By moving to America they don't have to do any public service (attending boring walkabouts in the arse end of nowhere, countless dreary church services, ribbon cuttings etc) but know Americans
Iove anything vaguely royal so can easily cash in on being Duke and Duchess - titles they chose not to renounce despite apparently wanting to "break free" of the RF.

I'd have much more sympathy - and respect - for them if they'd said "we're going to be Mr and Mrs Windsor now and do this on our own".

But Netflix, Spotify etc wouldn't shell out tens of millions for Mr and Mrs Windsor - it's the Duke and Duchess of Sussex they're paying for.

Happyforthem · 16/12/2020 07:18

SurrJan, everyone has worries. I think the old adage, the higher you are the harder you fall is true. And they must have been aware of the backlash of leaving the RF.

I don’t understand this comment about them not wanting to do boring stuff. Like what? Going on a royal train, waving, cutting ribbons? Maybe they find it a bit archaic?

In reality any type of work is hard and producing documentaries and podcasts, finding suitable guests/casts overseeing scripts etc is all hard work. Really hard, as any producer of shows knows. It is definitely real work.

Meg’s may have a natural talent and industry knowledge, we don’t know yet. Well have to see when these are released. I don’t watch tv, but I will be interested in the Spotify podcasts, especially if they bring on unknown people who are doing interesting things.

I know this but you specifically linked people not having looks and connections to being brave enough to "step out" and do their own thing, when those two do have this things so are padded when they "step out". It doesn't make sense 🤷🏼‍♀️

@SebastianTheCrab, in the Spotify promo they introduce themselves by their first names, no titles.

In reality they will always be well known because of Harry’s mum and dad and grandma. So what?

We choose to give titles based on birth (not merit), so we can hardly complain if they use something that they ‘earned’ by being born into it.

And good for them to take what they have and use it in a way that they think has max impact. I mean they are using it to spread a positive message of kindness. Something we could have more of in this thread 😊

Do you really think they'll be doing half of that? It'll be spoon-fed to them - just like everything else.

Spittingchestnuts · 16/12/2020 07:36

This is just my opinion and I have no particular views about them as people but I think it's a shame, given their position, if they really are serious about helping others, that they didn't have the will or courage to buy a fairly normal house and decide to go all in either managing or fund-raising for a carefully chosen homelessness or child poverty project and do the work quietly away from the press.

Anyone who has run a charity knows that you have to endlessly re-apply for grant aid and never quite know where the next five years of funding is coming from. This is an incredibly stressful way to run an organisation as you can't plan or budget as you would wish. Constantly having to write and submit bids is incredibly stressful in itself and takes so many manpower hours and focus away from the people you are trying to help. And H & M could take all of that stress away from a particular organisation if they were serious about it. And fair enough, if they needed to do some Netflix/voiceover work on the side to keep everything else going; but please don't make it the sole focus of your work.

custardbear · 16/12/2020 07:56

Oh goodness I've just heard a bit of their podcast - I'm cringing for them and the poor royal family who have to burden their smug money and fame grabbing relatives - disgusting people

Fullofpissandvinegar · 16/12/2020 08:02

Yep, so pleased they’ve achieved their dream of living quietly and privately out of the public gaze...

Arthersleep · 16/12/2020 08:19

Now then ladies, let's keep this positive and uplifting! Besides which, it is morning!

I have a little morning brew for you! A special blend made of shade grown veruccas, powered by adaptigens with nail fungus and probiotic tears from a single source crocodile. I call this blend

Vrucca sole te

What better way to start the day?

WiseOwlWan · 16/12/2020 08:20

Not my view of what they're doing but ......

WiseOwlWan · 16/12/2020 08:23

I feel sorry for the royal family too. It is all just so embarrassing and it keeps getting worse.

The queen has to take their titles.

Harry will end up being just another one of meghans x husbands.

awaynboilyurheid · 16/12/2020 08:24

Yes but has ANYONE asked her how she is?
That’s my big worry at the moment

WiseOwlWan · 16/12/2020 08:25

She's doing better now, the money is starting to come in. Poor poppets.

WelliesWithHeels · 16/12/2020 08:32

"scrpngs" 🤣
How can I invest?!

wizzbangfizz · 16/12/2020 08:43

I'm glad they are living the private life they craved.

WeAllHaveWings · 16/12/2020 08:46

They are not my cup of tea, none of the royals or other millionaire celeb "influencers" are, I don't normally read anything about them and don't really know what they are up to, but pleased for them if they are happy now they have left the RF.

My only issue would be if the UK tax payer is still subsidising their lifestyle.

Are you kidding? Harry served a decent stint in the forces, you know, actually out in a war zone (Afghanistan) 🙄 He’s very well thought of in the military.
wizzbangfizz · 16/12/2020 09:15

On a serious note they must be stripped of their titles and go on as private citizens. This tawdry money grabbing is damaging awful.

Happyforthem · 16/12/2020 09:27

How is this “tawdry money grabbing”? Do you think if they are “stripped” of their titles by they will become less famous?

Ultimately the Netflix and Spotify deals will depend on the traffic and revenue they generate. Unlike waving and cutting ribbons, it requires hard work and experience to generate that. I’m glad that they are giving it a good go and it’s a good example of modern royalty (if we have to have any royalty, like I said, I’d prefer a Republic)

I don't like or understand the hatred directed towards them op but honestly you sound like a promotional robot. I can't decide if you're real or a comedy genius.
