How much do you pay for Gas & Electricity?

Sorry if that seems like a cheeky question to ask how much everyone pays. Only, myself and my partner worked from home during the pandemic, my partner is back at work and I work two days in the office and the rest at home. My usual bill for gas and electricity is around £90 (although fluctuates quarterly and is less during the summer months). It has now gone up to £140 because of my extra usage working from home. I’m scared to use more heating during the winter months in case the price hikes up again. Is this expensive and is this a typical price at this time of year? Sorry I’ve only been a homeowner two years!

It’ll vary to the number is bedrooms, age of the building, detached, mid terrace etc.

AlexaShutUp · 09/12/2020 17:04

£88pm. Three bedroom house, dh has always wfh, and I have too since Covid.

AlexaShutUp · 09/12/2020 17:04

Ours is detached, sorry. 1960s build, I think.

AldiAisleofCrap · 09/12/2020 17:05

I answered this the order day as £220 was pleasantly surprised to find it’s actually £160 a month.

anniegun · 09/12/2020 17:05

Average duel fuel bill was £104.50 per month in the UK

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 09/12/2020 17:05

2 preschoolers, 2 adults- 3 bed terrace (people at home in the day)- in summer it was £58 combined for a month, I expect that to go up now that we are in winter. We pay £98 a month on dd to octopus energy- way cheaper than the previous rip off merchants we were with, npower!
Yes yours seems high

doadeer · 09/12/2020 17:06

Smarshian · 09/12/2020 17:10

Smarshian · 09/12/2020 17:10

I wfh too

CooperLooper · 09/12/2020 17:19

Blimey this has been an eye opener. It's me and DH in a 3-bed townhouse (new build so probably helps) and we pay £40 a month for gas and electric! £28 ish for electric and £12 ish for gas. We're a bit stingy with the heating but nothing extreme. We both WFH full time too. We're with BG and have a smart metre installed with them.

£20 on top of that for water.

minniemoll · 09/12/2020 17:21

£65 per month for gas and electric - four bed end terrace, over 100 years old. I live alone and wfh, and have the heating set to 18 all day, and 19 in the evenings. If I'm cold I'll turn it up, but mostly I just put more clothes on - I love my thermals!

wendz86 · 09/12/2020 17:23

£42 a month . Small 2 bed house and me and 2 children. I expect it may go up a bit as working at home and heating going on more.

AldiAisleofCrap · 09/12/2020 17:26

Forgot to say £169 a month six bed semi wfh.

AldiAisleofCrap · 09/12/2020 17:26

£160!

Jenala · 09/12/2020 17:28

£70 - £80 a month. 2 adults 2 young kids. Tumble dryer, dishwasher, heating on a lot, bath several times a week and showers. Been home since March. 3 bed semi detached house.

dementedpixie · 09/12/2020 17:32

You need to look at your usage in kwh rather than the amount everyone pays monthly as the monthly amount stays the same so you pay extra in the summer to cover the extra usage in the winter. I will show you what I used last month :

About £60 a month for 3 bed bungalow with large family room extension. We have oil fires central heating and water though, I'm not sure how much that works out per month!

MEgirl · 09/12/2020 19:27

Is there anyone in a larger house who can share how much they pay? My Direct Debit is over £200 for a 5 bed, 3 reception, large kitchen. I've always thought it to be exorbitant and seems even more so now. I'm not sure who to talk to to find out why it is so high. Or maybe I just need to change supplier.

Pickledonionsfortea · 09/12/2020 19:30

£90 per month, family of five, 4 bedroom semi
