How much do you pay for Gas & Electricity?

Sorry if that seems like a cheeky question to ask how much everyone pays. Only, myself and my partner worked from home during the pandemic, my partner is back at work and I work two days in the office and the rest at home. My usual bill for gas and electricity is around £90 (although fluctuates quarterly and is less during the summer months). It has now gone up to £140 because of my extra usage working from home. I’m scared to use more heating during the winter months in case the price hikes up again. Is this expensive and is this a typical price at this time of year? Sorry I’ve only been a homeowner two years!

Well in the last 28days since i read my meters, we’ve used £183 electric and £94 gas....2bed flat. So £277 a month....we have bathx5 every day, washing machine is on several times a day as is tumble drier. Heating I’m stingy on and never have it above 15, mostly around 12deg and evenings and night time not on at all.
I’m convinced we had a up the Swanny appliance that is roasting my energy bills, got rid of an old freezer and replaced with new, our washing machine is on the blink as its not spinning properly unless we take half the load out so a new one coming next week.

In the summer i got the electric down to £80 a month when everything was dried outside but i had hoped it would be lower than that even as we were outside most days in the garden.

£50pm. Victorian 2 bed semi. The heating has been on for about 7 hours a day since autumn. Washing machine on about 4 times a week. No dishwasher or tumble dryer.

Serena1977 · 28/12/2020 22:27

£108 pm both together. 1950's 3 bed semi.

Use a tumble dryer, use the washer everyday, dont skimp on heating.

£45pm.

Two bed terrace, home most of the day, but we have a wood burner and tend to use that instead of the central heating. No children either - just two adults and pets.

£58/month. 4 bed, 3 storey terrace. Well insulated and double glazed. Heating on most of the day as elderly person in household. Only two people and a dog though.

MossandRoy · 28/12/2020 22:39

£48 per month for both with utility warehouse. . Small 3 bed semi, not terribly well insulated, me and two dc's. No tumble dryer, all light bulbs LEDs, heating never above 19°C.

taskmasterfan · 28/12/2020 22:52

Large 4 bed detached. £65 a month dual fuel. Two people wfh full time since March. And isolating children off and on. Dishwasher and tumble dryer. Average/moderate heating use. Not stingy but don't like it tropical 24/7.

fastandthecurious · 28/12/2020 22:56

Pay £70 a month all year round for a small 2 bed semi. In the winter we probably use about £100 a month (old house so requires lots of heat) but much much less in the summer, say £45 maybe, so I just pay the same all year round so it builds up for winter and doesn't cost me a fortune

Powerplant · 28/12/2020 23:10

£42 electric £14 gas. 2 adults 3 bedrooms. Heating is not constantly on and one of us works the other home most of the day.

safariboot · 28/12/2020 23:13

Two bed terrace, gas heating and water, the direct debits are currently £56/m electric and £28/m gas but I think they've been set higher than our usage. We'll see in the spring. On a competitive tariff with SSE.

dontcrowdthemushrooms · 28/12/2020 23:21

£30-£40 pm for electric only in a small 1-bed flat.
Electric heaters on for 90 minutes in the morning and 3 hours in the evening.
I run the washing machine/tumble dryer 1 or 2 times a week.
I am not WFH anymore, so am out between 8.30am-6pm M-F, but usually in pretty much all weekend with TV, heater etc on.

abeautifulmess1234 · 28/12/2020 23:24

£27 a month. One bed flat. Home all day most days

middleager · 28/12/2020 23:35

£170 per month, 4/5 bed semi. 18 radiators.

Wfh and unfortunately, teens at home for 14 weeks between them since Sept due to back to back isolations.

My last house, a 3 bed detached was newer and far more energy efficient!

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 29/12/2020 01:04

We pay £84 direct debit per month. 4 bedroomed detached new build for 2 of us. In all day (especially now) as we're retired. We use MSE every year to get the best deal.

pumkinpopsickle · 30/12/2020 08:38

6 bed 2 reception 30s semi,

We pay about £200/m

No idea how to reduce it as I feel we are pretty good at not overdoing the heating and electric.

ofwarren · 30/12/2020 08:40

£70 a month, 3 bed semi with 3 kids.
Work from home and home educate.
We are with BULB on smart meter.

madcow88 · 30/12/2020 08:42

I pay £150 for a 5 bed house and I have been working from home since March.

Boredbear · 30/12/2020 08:49

New builds retain heat much, much better so energy costs less.

About £80pm for both in 5 bed draughty detached. We keep it down by staying mainly in the extension (which has proper walls and stays warm despite 2 walls of glass)

I have a little electric heater as soon as i get out of bed to even get dressed (it's about 7 degrees in bedrooms and rest of house)
