@silkiecat, I thought of you and those chickens of yours yesterday when for some inexplicable reason my Twitter or Facebook feed decided I needed to know about the new rules for any birds that people may keep. I saw later on that you were already reading up on the new rules so I can stop fretting for the silkie hens - phew! Your DH seems to have developed procrastination over their new housing into quite an art form 😊

EggyPegg · 06/12/2020 18:49

@MissConductUS. I've heard of Turducken. I first heard of it on Cake Boss when someone commissioned a cake to resemble one. I think Aldi sold them a few years ago too.

The window tax is why lots of Georgian houses in Bath have their windows painted on. I used to live right in the city centre, and saw them all the time.

Sodding is just exploring all of his options. I look forward to the main chaos.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/12/2020 19:09

Me, too, Sodding seems to be a very resourceful kitten.

I have packed half of this weekend's biscuits in a box to take into the office.

Spudlet · 06/12/2020 19:10

Watched A Muppet Christmas Carol with DS today - his first ever viewing of this. I was 10 when it came out. My nostalgia levels are approaching critical mass. DS spent the film alternating between being utterly mesmerised and wildly overexcited. Xmas Grin

I am absolutely shattered today, I think I have a touch of a virus about me (no alarming symptoms, just a bit of a stuffy head), plus I did 30 minutes of strength training on Friday, an hour of yoga yesterday and then a five mile run today which was a huge slog, much more so than normal. So planning a quiet day tomorrow without too much activity!

silkiecat · 06/12/2020 19:31

The cat is really mad at DH. He had a long nap. She woke up during in when his alarm went off but he didn't hear. He snoozed his alarm rather than rushing to see not once but three times. He will pay for that. Angry cat.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 06/12/2020 20:55

Here you all are! I'm currently ordering a free-range turkey crown and wondering whether to choose delivery for the 23rd and then worry that it might not turn up for some reason, or have it delivered in the next few days and freeze it.

soddingkitten · 06/12/2020 21:00

We keep having to isolate due to cases in my kids’ school or coughs/tests. I’m banking as much as I can in case we can’t get out to the shops just before Christmas.

MissConductUS · 06/12/2020 21:17

Eggy, I'm a bit unclear on this. Are the windows painted to look like the adjacent wall to fool the taxman? I agree with you about Sodding. He's laying low, planning his next big caper.

DD had a minor injury today at work. She was moving a rack full of baking pans, one of the wheels stuck and it tipped over part way. Several of the pans slid off and hit her on the head. She walked over to urgent care (the same one that did her covid test last weekend) and they confirmed that it was nothing serious, but signed her off work for a week anyway.

@Spudlet Sorry to hear you're feeling poorly. Don't overdo it with a head cold. Your immune system is telling you to slow down. I'm guilty of this too by the way.

@silkiecat I've had a nap today too, but no alarm needed. Hopefully I'm still on good terms with the cats.

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar I'm glad you found us! I'd order it and freeze it. Deliveries that close to Christmas will be very chancy. It's been on the news here that demand for package delivery will exceed capacity due to the shift to e-commerce and the logistics of moving covid vaccines around.

@MissConductUS. No taxman fooling going on. The windows weren't glazed due to the window tax, and these days, there has been art painted onto them to make them like windows. This one was round the corner from both my work and my flat. In other buildings they're painted to just look like traditional windows (black background and white squares for the frame).

EggyPegg · 06/12/2020 21:33

@MissConductUS Sorry to hear about your DDs injury. I hope she's doing okay this evening.

Feel better soon @Spudlet!

halfpasteleven · 06/12/2020 22:03

It's a foggy night here. I'm in bed since 9.30 catching up on this thread.

@Spudlet I hope you rest tomorrow and feel better for doing it.
@MissConductUS I hope your DD isn't hurt and feels better already..

I meant to do the weekly grocery shop today, but instead I went to a smaller shop and just got enough to tide us over until tomorrow when I will hopefully go after work. Maybe.

MissConductUS · 06/12/2020 22:49

Eggy, I see, they've painted fake windows on the walls. Very clever.

DD is feeling well enough to ask twice when dinner will be ready, so the prognosis is good. We just had a nice Zoom call with my dear MIL. She lives alone so Zoom has been a great way for her to stay connected.

DS made a small batch of very large chocolate chip cookies and they are disappearing at an alarming rate.

@halfpasteleven The thread has been very busy this weekend.

It's 6:52 still dark and I am the only one who has to get up and go in to work. The others WFH or start later.
Sunrise is at 8:00 (Sigh!)

HelenaJustina · 07/12/2020 06:24

@Prokupatuscrakedatus I’m full of fellow feeling. I leapt out of bed at 6.03am when the alarm went off. It’ll be a while before any one else in the house emerges from their pit...

halfpasteleven · 07/12/2020 06:59

About to get up here as well.. it's so dark!
Wishing everyone a good Monday..

silkiecat · 07/12/2020 07:35

Hope everyone has a good Monday. I am warm and snuggly in bed and its starting to get light. DH is in the shower then wfh. I will be trying to get DS to do his home ed. DS is awake but I'm sure he will not be able to hear or see me until this evening as its a home ed day. The cat must be asleep otherwise she'ld be mad at DH for taking a shower, for some reason he thinks he chooses his cat servant hours. The cat cannot believe his stupidity.

Taswama · 07/12/2020 08:25

DP has taken the car for its MOT across town and is planning to cycle home afterwards. Weird him not being here at this time of the morning, although pre March he left the house at 7am three days a week.

soddingkitten · 07/12/2020 10:18

I am in work today and clocking up loads of steps. My Fitbit is still on the charger at home. 🙄 I don’t wear a watch now I have a Fitbit either. Its irritating in a manifestly dull way. This is my most thread-faithful post in weeks.

Squirrel26 · 07/12/2020 10:22

The doors in the corridor that the high-vis men were supposed to replace on a Friday about two weeks ago have been replaced over the weekend. The new ones have rectangular glass panels that do not match the circular glass panels on the rest of the corridor doors, or my office door. This is annoying.

Squirrel26 · 07/12/2020 10:23

(Still not sure what was wrong with the old doors. They seemed fine to me. [Not a door expert.])

Nydj · 07/12/2020 10:59

Thank you for the door update @Squirrel26, I am sure I am not the only one who was waiting. I’m a little disappointed that the work was done over the weekend so we don’t know for sure whether the people carrying out the work were in hi-vis vests or not. The non-matching panels makes it sound like our house where things are very ‘eclectic’ (aka: we had rubbish builders).

Nydj · 07/12/2020 11:01

I woke up at 7am but determinedly stayed in bed until 7.45am when my alarm went off. I love wfh. Well, ok, I mean that if I have to work and not live a life of leisure that I am really designed for, I prefer wfh to commuting.

Squirrel26 · 07/12/2020 12:30

It is a bit disappointing, @Nydj, that I wasn’t here to check that they were wearing correct clothing. They were here on Friday, but out in the lobby playing with some copper pipes.

It would be nice if I could work from home, but on the other hand I’d miss the high-vis men.

silkiecat · 07/12/2020 12:32

I called DS for his home learning. His severe deafness is both ears has reappeared. I then called him again close to lunch time and he hearing had reappeared but when I read out the tasks rather than lunch menu he told me that he had already done this week's learning in class last week. Hmm

When I said that's good we can do this really quickly he then said oh question one seems unfamilar I don't know it. Then started whining on the floor. We had a 10 minute whine on the floor then shuffle down the stairs session. Will try attempt 3 later.

On the plus side the plumber has rescheduled for 18th.

Spudlet · 07/12/2020 14:09

Not really dull but not very happy either... someone was attacked from behind, knocked out and robbed in the woods where I run yesterday Shock Fortunately the poor man wasn’t badly hurt, but now I’m feeling a bit freaked out about going there for a run alone. I don’t have anyone to run with, so I’m a bit stuck really.

I actually feel really angry about it.
