I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Weather is very blowy here too. I can hear it through the chimney.

I have had a sloth like day and am also feeling out of sorts. Think I'll go for a run tomorrow to try to blow away some cobwebs.

DH and I are watching Gavin and Stacey, it's the salad episode. I have EggyCat1 on my lap and I've just heard DH telling EggyCat2 that it's his leftover turkey not hers when he went into the kitchen.

Thank you @MissConductUS. The fireplace is one of our favourite things about the house. There's a board over the chimney breast in the playroom, and when we do the work we plan to remove the board and restore the fireplace.

It is very windy here too. We have had some big trees come down in our immediate local area in recent storms, including one last week. I hope we don’t lose any more tonight.

I had a nap on the sofa after breakfast this morning and felt much better for it.

We have run out of the council’s special recycling bin bags. There is a shop nearby that gives packs of them out when the library is closed. I plan to pick some up tomorrow.

An excellent (if tense) update on the recycling bags sodding Grin

Champagne - there is genuine tension involved. As one of the few places stocking the bags, its possible they’ve already run out. 😱 It happened during lockdown earlier this year when all the council offices and buildings were shut. I should have braved the wind and rain yesterday. I will provide an update later.

Had a very cold Christmas, which was handy because I could use my back porch as an adjunct fridge/freezer.

Checks cheques...

Wet and windy here.
Yeserday I moved all my family history files to the "work' PC and today I will create a to do list. Well, the intention is there! Smile

Very windy and wet here last night so sleep was patchy. It’s a lot calmer now.

Have dropped DD at the stables, wearing 5 layers and her new Christmas gloves.
Now have about 1000 jigsaw pieces of sky and grass to fit together - done all the fun bits.

DS is 5 today! I can’t believe it. This time 5 years ago, I believe I was feeling rather sorry for myself. He was born at 2.40 that afternoon.

He has had some lovely presents and I am pleased to say that he even likes Supertato and The Evil Pea, and has been playing with them and the potato masher. He has also already done some painting with a kit he got and constructed a road roller. Later we are going geocaching (because that way we get a walk) and I’ll be making a chicken pie for dinner, although DS will have pizza because it’s his birthday.

However we did have some upset first thing - yesterday the village shop posted some pictures onto Facebook showing the flooding in there, and in the course of my showing DH, DS also had a look. He wasn’t at all bothered at the time, but this morning was in floods of tears because ‘the shop is all flooded and we can’t go to the shop for food, they will have to throw all the food awaaaaay!’ I have reassured him that we can go to other shops and that the village shop will be fixed and will get more food, but I was really surprised, bless him. It has obviously played on his mind in the night. All better once he’d had a cuddle and once he saw the birthday presents though.

Watched - the man who invented Christmas' yesterday. Neither DS2 or DP could be persuaded to join me. It was pleasingly heartwarming.

Fear not, lovely POTT (people of the thread), I have started a new one

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 9: Calmly through the day

I am just back from my run and in pre shower cool down mode. I had thought about starting it before I left but decided to raise the dramatic suspense level a bit. Xmas Smile

I regret the checks vs cheques error in my prior post. As Robert Heinlein said in his classic novel Strangers in a Strange Land, I am only an egg.

@Spudlet - Happy 5th birthday to your DS!

It's a beautiful clear, very cold morning here (-7). DH went to the posh Italian grocery yesterday and had to turn around and go the long way because roads were still closed with fallen trees. Then it took him 45 minutes to clear the branches and debris from the driveway and yard.

DD put in her two weeks notice at the bakery cafe where she works. They were not surprised since they knew she was going off to uni at some point. It's been a really good experience for her.

I'm off for my shower and a bit of breakfast. Let's try to fill up this thread before jumping over to the next.

Bin bag success! There was a big delivery just before Christmas. Happy days! We can now squash down all the cardboard packaging from our Christmas deliveries for bagging and recycling. Sodding will miss his cardboard play fort, but hey 🤷 - we need the space back. I will post this on the new thread too.

I can see the mountains from my bedroom window and this morning there was frost, or possibly a sprinkling of snow, on them. I thought they looked like pandan cake with a sprinkling of sugar. I'm not normally so fanciful, usually I just think that there's snow on the mountains, it must be all the Christmas treats that makes me think of cake. Grin

Link to as I had never heard of it before I married Malaysian DH and visited Malaysia.

I am very relieved about your binbags @soddingkitten. Our recycling bin is full. I might get one of the DC to jump on it later to squash some things.

I do hope we fill this thread out before moving to the next proper. It makes me twitch to leave it incomplete.

Just back from the park with the DC and their Nerf guns. I found the whole thing very stressful with lost bullets and the guns not firing properly. In future I will send DH as he handles it better than I do.

It is blue skies and sunny but the ground is sodden everywhere and there was a tree down in the park. I am definitely going for a run later, I'm just waiting for my watch to charge.

Also, a disclaimer about mountains. In Ireland they are mountains, in most other countries they would be considered hills. Grin I have often thought that it's a great pity that we don't have proper mountains here, as we get a lot of rain and if we had some decent altitude we would have lots of snow and great skiing.

A very happy birthday to @Spudlets lovely little DS!
I've taken lamb cutlets out of the freezer for dinner - I don't eat them but DP will enjoy the break from the white meat!
