A random Alsatian escaped from my neighbour’s garden, ran through our fence (which has a hole) and chased an equally random ginger cat which I’d never seen before. It all made me jump rather a lot!

soddingkitten · 12/12/2020 14:23

Very slow day here. I’m dressed and I cut DS2’s hair this morning with our lockdown clippers, but that’s about it. I should write some Christmas cards but I can’t be bothered. It’s our first bright, dry day in a while too. I should be out making the most of the daylight but, again, I can’t be bothered.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 12/12/2020 14:27

I'm trying to do chemistry from school with DS, he listened to half but not the other half then there was a question on other half so he got grumpy. He's back to do his own calculations for fun.

Weather has been a bit miserable here - were hoping to finish chicken house today but been light rain all day so far.

Squirrel26 · 12/12/2020 14:29

Thinking about what kind of dog walk I’m going to go on soon. I’m thinking forest-y with a chance of a cafe halfway through, and the possibility of the Co-op on the way home.

Champagneforeveryone · 12/12/2020 15:17

I've booked a weekend break for the end of January. I include this titbit in the dull and boring thread since I'm already up to 4 cancelled holidays, so am sceptical it will go ahead. I just like the frisson of excitement where I part with money, and then wonder if I will get it back again.

I've changed shifts and have oddly been told to come in one hour later and work an hour less in order to get paid more. I haven't argued.

DH is in wonder at having to empty the log burner again. It's winter and it's our only form of heating so I don't think it's that much of a shock. DH however is muttering about how he only did it yesterday. Mind you, he is also equally baffled that the washing machine and dishwasher needs emptying every day so I guess it's not much of a surprise.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/12/2020 15:52

I have just finished the dough for simple vanilla biscuits (the kind you cover in melted chocolate after baking). It needs to rest for 8 hours.

campagne Good luck to you! I have given up on any kind of plan for whatever.

MissConductUS · 12/12/2020 16:04

Happy Caturday to all, and my apologies that I was largely missing in action yesterday.

Welcome @Wrenna and all of the other newcomers to the thread! Thank you for sharing your news. Wrenna it's a special treat for me to have another poster who resides in North American so that we're in similar time zones. I'm a New Yorker.

@Nydj - While the freezer is ideal for getting the brownies to a temperature where they're easily cut, the fridge works almost as well. It just takes an extra hour or two.

It's a pretty quiet day here. I've done a quick grocery shop already and I should be able to finish my Christmas cards today. DS made huge M&M cookies last night. DD is off working (let's hope no more trips to urgent care). Today is the day of the Army-Navy football game (American football, between the two service academies) which DS will watch. I may watch a bit with him unless of course, a nap seems more inviting.

Nydj · 12/12/2020 16:21

I am so envious of your naps @MissConductUS. I wake up everyday feeling tired and fantasise about having a nap later on in the day but the nap never happens. You’ll be pleased to know that the second batch of brownies have been made and are goooood - fudgy instead of the cakey texture of the first batch and the mix of milk and dark chocolate suits our sweet tooth too - thank you for the recipe.

MissConductUS · 12/12/2020 16:53

@Nydj - I'm so glad they came out even better the second time. As you adjust the ingredients (more flour, less flour, more water, etc.) you can really get them just to your liking. Anyone else who wants the recipe can PM me with your email address and I'll send it as a PDF.

I was in the kitchen a bit ago and noticed some movement in the front yard. This is my first wild turkey sighting of the winter. Ah, the county life. Grin

It was quite sunny this morning so went for a walk in the park. Tried to do some yoga later to hep with strange sciatica pains I think caused by sitting too much. Listening to some kind of busy orchestra music on 6 music. Not sure if I like it or not.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/12/2020 17:18

Miss Great!
The moste interesting bird I found on my terrasse was a buzzard. I went out to see where all the feathers came from, and there he was eating a pigeon. I did a bit of reading and the amount of wildlife living in inner city Berlin is astonishing!

soddingkitten · 12/12/2020 17:27

Those wild turkeys look more like pheasants, game birds raised in the UK for commercial shoots, though also wild. They don't look anything like the heavy-set commercial turkeys bred here. When I deboned the turkey thigh joints to make Frankenroast last week, the thigh bones could have come from a tiny pony, so sturdy.

soddingkitten · 12/12/2020 17:29

These are the pheasants we have here: www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Ring-necked_Pheasant/id#

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 12/12/2020 17:33

This is from our back garden Xmas Grin

Not really, that's from Australia.

We get lots of birds in our back garden, biggest are pheasants and lots of greenfinch, a thatched roof is a bird magnet.

sproutsandparsnips · 12/12/2020 17:34

Nydj just a sore arm.
Been on a walk down the canal instead of writing my next assignment - I'm so wild!

HelenaJustina · 12/12/2020 17:36

Just caught up. Tree and decorations went up in our house today. And I took 2 DC to a youth Mass late afternoon. While I was gone DH vacuumed the house - this is nothing short of a Christmas miracle!

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 12/12/2020 17:38

My DH swept the living room floor today, morework than it sounds as its where DS resides with rabbit, must be annual men's floor cleaning day.

HelenaJustina · 12/12/2020 17:40

@SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat if so I’m marking it in the calendar so as not to miss it next year!

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 12/12/2020 17:41

I got my hair cut. It was shorter than they usually cut it but I was pleased because usually I never think it is short enough.

Holothane · 12/12/2020 19:03

Feeling sorry for myself my pain today has been horrific.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/12/2020 19:24

@Holothane Poor you! Does your pain medication not work properly or aren't you allowed any?

1st tray of my vanilla cookies is in the oven.

Holothane · 12/12/2020 19:34

In the at 1600 I took 2 paracetamol one ibuprofen and two codeine, I keep the codeine for very bad days I’ll snuggle in my oodie later.

Spudlet · 12/12/2020 19:40

@Holothane Hope you start to feel better soon 🤞

Had a nice day today, we went to the zoo this morning and had a coffee and cake sitting outside huddling in our coats Grin Then when we came home my fabric had arrived so I measured ddog up and made him his new coat while DH walked him and DS watched Wallace and Gromit. Then we went for a drive when it got dark to see the lights - there are a couple of absolutely amazing houses, they must be just about visible from space. I think I love them even more than DS does Grin

I’m not totally sure that ddog appreciates his coat but I’m quite pleased with how it’s turned out!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/12/2020 20:11

I had to google oodie. I had sth like that last century when I wrote my masters's. I think I've still got it somewhere .... [off to look for it]

Trailing1 · 12/12/2020 20:15

Today had been spent on the sofa riddled with cold, whilst trying to feed/entertain the kids. mercifully the children are now in bed and I can finally slink off to die in my pit.
