Oh @silkie he's lovely! So very happy. £7 well spent.

EggNogPegg · 10/12/2020 18:59

I have just finished putting up paper chains in the playroom. It's as festive as my house gets until the end of next week.

I'm so glad paper chains are back!

Had the flu jab - it HURT

Now I'm going to have chorizo and prawn quesadillas and watch Nadiya's American Journey with a big glass of red Wine

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 10/12/2020 19:05

That's pretty EggNog Do you also live with a Frenchman - that's a lot of wine you have there Xmas Grin

TheySeeHerRowling · 10/12/2020 19:05

Actually I think you gave me the idea for the glass of wine EggNogPeg with your subliminal advertising in that photo Grin

Love your picture on the wall too

MissConductUS · 10/12/2020 19:31

Egg, I'm glad to hear your tooth is okay and it's not infected.

Why is everyone getting flu shots jabs now? I had mine in August. The whole point is to get them before the virus starts circulating.

I had a talk with DH about Christmas dinner options. He wanted to try roasting a turkey breast instead of a whole turkey. DD won't eat it. He suggested filet mignon on the grill. DD won't eat it. I don't want ham again as we just had it for Thanksgiving. I told him to work it out with DC. We may wind up doing homemade pizza on Christmas. Grin

I may suggest a Polar Bear cake for dessert.

I genuinely worry about what she is going to eat while away at uni next spring. Her uni is known for having good quality food compared to most, but it doesn't matter how good it is if it's off her list. I think she'll probably wind up spending a fortune on having takeout takeaways delivered.

Nice paper chains Egg. Smile

I had my flu jab today and mine hurt too.

@MissConductUS, a couple of reasons for not having the flu jab earlier. They never have enough so I didn’t want to have one until those who really, really needed it had had it. I wasn’t just being magnanimous - I wfh as does DH. DS is at home while waiting to start his job. We get most of our groceries delivered. All in all, W e are very low risk for COVID or flu. The Government decided that people in my age bracket would be entitled to a free flub jab from the beginning of this month and as the local pharmacy had them available, I figured that most people who really, really needed them would have had their jab by now so it would be ok for me to have them now. Bet you’re sorry you asked!

Nydj · 10/12/2020 20:07

Those paper chains are very pretty and remind me of school - many happy hours spent making paper chains instead of any ‘proper’ work in the run up to xmas.

EggNogPegg · 10/12/2020 20:11

@SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat (excellent festive name by the way). I am married to a West Midlander, but excellent spot on the wine, the top shelf is indeed all French. We go to France for our summer holiday each year (to a Eurocamp site for a week, so that's not as grand as it sounds) and we stock up on both wine and jam whilst we're there as it's so cheap! Averages around €2.50 a bottle. Bonne Mamam jam that's expensive here is €1 a jar. I don't even like wine, so it's all DHs. It tends to last him almost until we go the following year. DH has a car with a tiny boot, I have a huge boot. Usually we take his car, but this year we took mine. Space for so much wine! I am an expert at packing it safely now.
The shelf underneath is all vintage wine he bought at auction years ago. There's some on there that are older than us. Was nice to give our friend a 1980 vintage for her 40th this year though.

Thanks @TheySeeHerRowling. It's my nod to the show Friends. I have another pop culture poster up in my bedroom. I love that the bedroom one is pretty and you'd only get the reference if you know the show.

The poster atop the dresser is French too. Genuine though, we got it in an antiques shop in Pierrefonds last year (the shop was next to the entrance to the chateau where Merlin was filmed).

Can you tell I love France? Am currently attempting to learn French.

I work in a school. I confess that I made most of them at work, but the child I work with didn't want them up. So I brought them home.
Taswama · 10/12/2020 21:18

I had a bike ride today. My first long one (more than half an hour) in a few months. Now my legs ache.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 10/12/2020 21:25

DH is cutting me a second slice of polar bear cake. I can hear DD exclaiming not the ears, not the ears. Xmas Grin

DS has had polar bear cake and said he is now eating an ear and it tastes like white chocolate. He's about to have a second slice too.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 10/12/2020 21:28

Asked DD if she wanted polar bear cake. DD said no I'm vegan. DS said you know its not made from real polar bear.

soddingkitten · 10/12/2020 21:47

Rainy day here. Sodding appeared from a garden jaunt this morning and left muddy footprints all over my work papers. 🙄 He’s been chattier than usual today, complaining about getting wet I think. He’s also started standing outside the cloakroom door and shouting at whoever is on the loo, even when there are other people nearby. Odd boy.

I’ve had a rubbish day (work). I am currently drinking a G&T which I could have cheerfully downed late morning. I switched off my camera in a big company-wide Zoom meeting this afternoon and ordered DH’s Christmas presents during a super-dull presentation. I haven’t even started writing Christmas cards.

Therainisback · 10/12/2020 22:00

Ended up going to A & E this morning as my scales had blistered overnight. Looked like an egg. The nurse ( who was brilliant) told me off for not going yesterday.

Did the food shop tonight. Bought a seeded loaf for 6p. Will make a lovely bread and butter pudding.

HelenaJustina · 11/12/2020 06:30

@soddingkitten I stayed up until midnight this week to get the bloody cards done. And I was ruthless about who did and didn’t get one! I left work at 4pm yesterday and didn’t manage to take my coat off again until 8.45pm due to all the to-ing and fro-ing

Don't you know weather is your responsibility? And our cats were always convinced that if it was raining one side of the house it would be fine on the other. Always very disappointed when I opened the door and it was the same. Obviously poor planning on my part.
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/12/2020 09:17

LL will only deliver the smoke detectors. He was quite happy to deliver them and have me install them (saves him the stairs and the risk - he is older than us).
Though it made DD tidy her room Smile

Overcast and cold-ish here.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 11/12/2020 09:31

Dropping DS off this morning there was a very large lorry reversing into a very small gateway and blocking traffic in both directions. Hmm DS just squeaked in on time (they send them home if they are late, so it's a bit tense when we're running late).

I had to log in and book sessions for January's online parent teacher meetings. I was swearing at the system for not letting me in, but then realised that I had DD's year of birth wrong. Blush

Squirrel26 · 11/12/2020 10:16

The threat of being sent home for being late sounds unnecessarily stressful for first thing in the morning.

I need to buy some socks and pants at some point this weekend. Despite having TWO underwear draws (apparently full of swimming costumes and pairs of tights), I can never find any.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 11/12/2020 10:23

The place he goes is for young people who have crashed out of school for whatever reason, so they are very low tolerance on a few things because otherwise most of them are the type of kids who would take the piss. DS only managed three years of secondary school, in two different schools, and is absolutely the type of child who needs cast iron boundaries.

On the socks issue, I buy all the same socks, about 15 or 20 pairs, that way I never end up with odd socks. When I have lost or have holes in too many I throw them all out and buy another 20 pairs of identical socks. I reckon I spend less on socks overall and never end up with a drawer full of odd socks but no matching pair to wear.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/12/2020 10:35

Blackamericano That's what we do, too. Black socks in three different sizes.

In other news - I just checked DD's Terry Pratchet shelf - she will get the last missing books for christmas via our second hand bookseller. DS collects the English versions, but is a kindle type of person.

Squirrel26 · 11/12/2020 10:57

I cull socks when they have holes in, and then make mismatched pairs with what’s left. STILL though, I have no bloody socks. Where ARE they all?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/12/2020 11:33

Squirrel They meet where the lost pens and table spoons go to live the good life!

MissConductUS · 11/12/2020 14:17

I just wanted to let all of you lovely people know that I am in Zoom hell for most of the day today, but like Santa 🎅 I will be watching from afar and will know who has been naughty or nice. 😇
