Does your partner call you during his work day?

I am a SAHM, with a baby and a 4 year old. Been on lots of walks lately with friends who are also mums at home with babies or kids at school. Nearly all of them get a phone call from there partners while they are at work, just to say hello and see how things are going. My partner doesn't do this and when I told him all my friends get calls he said it is weird.

Does your partner/ DH/DW call you?

No not a call and wouldn't want him to. He needs to focus on work. Normally we will exchange a few short texts though.

mooncakes · 03/12/2020 18:59

Only if we need something, not for a chat.

Lazysundayafternoons · 03/12/2020 19:00

Only if he has something he needs to tell me.

Terriblecreature · 03/12/2020 19:01

Sometimes, it really depends how his day is going. We definately exchange messages but actual phone calls are normally only if something has come up etc x

OrigamiOwl · 03/12/2020 19:01

No, neither of us can the other while we're at work. We both need to be concentrating on what we are both doing, rather than checking in with each other.

murasaki · 03/12/2020 19:01

Chrsit no. Unless it is an absolute emergency (aka I'm in hospital or the like ). We are both busy. the odd text re shopping that can be picked up at any time, but no calls.

Usernamey · 03/12/2020 19:01

Yes but it's because I've asked and only if he's got time and things are quiet for him. No kids, yet. But this is because he works shifts and we could technically go for a couple of days without seeing each other x

JuniLoolaPalooza · 03/12/2020 19:01

When my DP is working he thinks about work. I sometimes message him to say hi or ask a question but he would never think to get in touch just to say hi. I'm used to it and find it a bit weird when people have their lunchtime chat with their partners!
If he messages or phones I assume there's a problem.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 03/12/2020 19:02

No calls, maybe a text to ask me where something is as he's working from home still.

When I was on mat leave with ds he'd send me a message to check in, but never called me. He used to go for walks on his lunch break with a couple of colleagues, he'd be too busy getting food in sainsburys to call me.

I think some couples like to talk all the time, but there's nothing wrong with your relationship if you don't.

Cyw2018 · 03/12/2020 19:02

We both use messenger when one of us is working and the other is at home with DD(2), and we send each other pictures of DD through the day, but would only call if there was a major crisis.

ShirleyPhallus · 03/12/2020 19:02

No, but then I’m also one of those people who lets my phone ring and then Googles the number after Grin I hate chatting on the phone and much prefer catching up after the day over dinner

3inthefuckingmorning · 03/12/2020 19:04

@ShirleyPhallus 🤣 that made me laugh, I do the same! I hate talking on the phone

Yes. Dh works from home atm but when he was in he would call on a break. We usually also text at least once or twice a day. Either a hows your day or what the kids are doing. When he was working in the office he would call each day to wake me.up for the school run - I work nights so sleep in the day. When I am at work we often text good night, going to bed type thing.

WeAllHaveWings · 03/12/2020 19:05

Nope, never in 32 years, don't call or message unless something to ask that can't wait. Don't feel the need.

MaMisled · 03/12/2020 19:05

If there is something going on DH will call with, or for, an update. He also calls when he's on his way home. I work 2 nights a week and call him to say goodnight. We like a quick chat!

TheTeenageYears · 03/12/2020 19:06

No unless necessary, same with texts but i've been in the company of friends before whose OH's just call for a chat. Makes you feel a bit crap but the small number of replies so far here are in the no camp so maybe it's less common than it might seem.

AgeLikeWine · 03/12/2020 19:06

No. He occasionally texts if he needs to tell or ask me something, but he’s generally busy and so am I.

Gooseybby · 03/12/2020 19:07

Only if its something important

ukgift2016 · 03/12/2020 19:07

Yes, he texts and calls me during the day. I find it annoying tbh!

NovemberR · 03/12/2020 19:08

No. He runs his own business and is busy. He might break off to grab a quick sandwich in the van at lunchtime. Why would he need to ring me? We are of the generation that didn't grow up with mobiles though and would only ring if we had something important to say.

I'm the same. I'm focused on work during my work hours and don't really want to chat about nothing with my DH. I don't understand the need to check on people who are working/during the day to see if they are ok. Why wouldn't they be?

Littlemissnutcracker · 03/12/2020 19:08

He does sometimes. If I am at home all day he would ring to see how I was. When I am at work we never talk because it's just too busy.

I always thing everyone does stuff differently and I have stopped telling people too much as they think it's wierd or whatever. No two couples are the same.

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2020 19:09

No, not unless essential. Neither of us would have the time for chatting.

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 03/12/2020 19:10

We do message each other on WhatsApp maybe a couple of times a day. Just jokes/ memes/ gossip /what’s for tea etc. We are both at work.
I actually would have really appreciated him calling me from work and when I was a sahm with little dc - he never did though!

lubeybooby · 03/12/2020 19:12

No and I don't ring him either if I'm working and he's at home, unless we're away for a night or more

DeathMetalMum · 03/12/2020 19:12

We usually text on our breaks. Only really call if it's an emergency. I do occasionally give dp a call when he's on his break but only once he has text to say he's on lunch or whatever, and it's usually to ask something.
