Vaseline: How did I get to 53 before knowing I could do this?

My skin is very dry and prone to spots (thank you menopause).

On a whim I decided to try rubbing in some Vaseline - OMG it’s great! I’ve now added a thin layer below my makeup and the difference is remarkable.

Am I late to the party? And what else so I need to know?

I have had dry and cracked lips all my life. I agree that O’Keefes is good but it is nothing compared to nipple cream. The branded one or the Boots own brand also works well.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 30/11/2020 18:39

Another vote for Lansinoh. Works brilliantly on lips. Was made up when I had DD2 and the breastfeeding consultant gave me a handful of sample sachets. So handy.

I hate the weird runny/greasy texture of OKeefe's but their foot cream is great. I bought the hand cream in green tub but hate the feel of it as it seems to just sit in the skin and not sink in. I end up washing it off.

MrsWooster · 30/11/2020 18:40

Another vote for lansinoh. Dd just had a nasty out of chopped hands-rough, sore and eczema-y and two days later she’s fine. Also sorts chapped lips in 24 hours.

@Dillo10

That a thin layer of vaseline applied to eyebrows and even eyelashes before bed makes them grow like crazy
Bliddy hell!

Maybe I won't try it then - I have eyebrows like the late Dennis Healey to start off with.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 30/11/2020 18:46

@stclair you can swallow some Vaseline without ill effects, according to their website. The inventor of it used to eat a spoonful each day!

SmileyClare · 30/11/2020 18:46

Would it make a moustache grow like crazy too? Offputting.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 30/11/2020 18:47

Also petroleum jelly is not the same as petrol - it's just to show it's a cracked hydrocarbon.

CaraDuneRedux · 30/11/2020 18:48

@drumst1ck

Lansinoh nipple cream is my go to for chapped lips.... (and other dry areas). Honestly it's a miracle worker on nipples and any other body part!!
Me too - bloody miracle stuff. Chapped lips, dried out hands (specially if they get to that red, flaky stage).
Blueseasky · 30/11/2020 18:48

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

That Vicks vapur rub has other uses - soles of your feet if coughing is keeping you awake at night. On fungal toes (boak!)
oh please do tell me more, how is vaseline used for fungal toenails? I mean any particular regimen to follow?
kateandme · 30/11/2020 18:51

weleda nipple cream is your friend for evrything here people

Squiffany · 30/11/2020 19:01

@BogRollBOGOF

Bepanthen nappy cream is great for sealing moisture into lips Grin
Nipple cream is great for lips. I think it’s called lanisoh?
Benjispruce2 · 30/11/2020 19:15

I’ve used it overnight before and it does plump your skin up by morning.

Benjispruce2 · 30/11/2020 19:17

I can’t see how Vaseline makes hair grow. The hair we see is dead.

nannybeach · 30/11/2020 19:23

great for removing waterproof eye make up, cheap as chips and gentle, I once worked for a plastic surgeon who said use it on crows feet

Benjispruce2 · 30/11/2020 19:23

Yes it removes mascara like a dream.

TheSpottedZebra · 30/11/2020 19:46

@Keepingthingsinteresting

The twist up tube *@TheSpottedZebra*.

I love sharing the joy of o’keefes!

Thanks!
TinyGremlins · 30/11/2020 19:53

Squalane oil is very moisturising (get The Ordinary, only about £5) and Balmonds Skin Salvation moisturiser is soothing. it was designed for eczema.

ShadowKitty · 30/11/2020 19:54

If you have sore chapped knuckles and cracked skin on your fingers from all the hand washing, the Hemp hand cream from Body Shop is brilliant. Tried all sorts and this is the best I've found.

stovetopespresso · 30/11/2020 20:05

I got incredibly chapped lips and realised it was down to my whitening toothpaste, I'm allergic to something in there.

CaveMum · 30/11/2020 20:10

Car ex is the only thing that stops my lips from cracking.

Hand cream wise either Neutrogena Norwegian formula, or when they’re really bad Burt’s Bees Hand Salve (the one that comes in a tin).

CaveMum · 30/11/2020 20:11

Dammit “Car ex” is obv Carmex.

Osteomancer · 30/11/2020 20:13

@LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow

isn't that fancy pants ElizabethArden stuff basically vaseline??? plus exotic smell

I am pretty sure the Aldi knock off Miracle Cream is.

Does it smell the same as lizzy arden 8 hour?
Elizabella · 30/11/2020 20:20

MooGoo Milk Cream for my hands and Nuxe Reve de Miel lipbalm (a pot lasts me almost a year) for lips. Wouldn't use anything else. Vaseline is great for heels and elbows though too 'heavy' for my skin anywhere else.

catsrus · 30/11/2020 20:40

tip from my friendly locksmith

chuck the WD40 when it comes to stiff locks - use vaseline. If you have a lock on something like a shed that doesn't get opened much in winter then block up the lock with a ball of cotton wool impregnated with vaseline, the lock will stay easy to open, just remove the cotton wool and replace when you lock up.
