Vaseline: How did I get to 53 before knowing I could do this?

My skin is very dry and prone to spots (thank you menopause).

On a whim I decided to try rubbing in some Vaseline - OMG it’s great! I’ve now added a thin layer below my makeup and the difference is remarkable.

Am I late to the party? And what else so I need to know?

Based on the science of this thread, It might be worth trying the lip balm on your feet Grin
@Blueseasky Vicks vapurub not vaseline.
@umpteennamechanges @TheSpottedZebra we had a book, still have it somewhere, something 'Mysteries' I think it was called, quite a thick book - there were all sorts of weird images in there, ufo sightings, ghosts etc. and I can still recall the leg with slipper image - an old ladies leg, from below the knee - her slipper had a heel from memory - I too was fascinated by self-combustion as a kid.
@VenusTiger... Did the book have pyramids on the front? I'm sure I had the same one!

VenusTiger · 10/12/2020 23:47

@tiredvommachine don't think it did - I'm going to have to try and google it... will get back to you.

Don't worry, from this thread sounds like there were several variations in circulation but am the same sort of theme. What sticks in my head from the book, apart from the leg photo is faces appearing in paving stones (Italy, from memory).

"Old wives tale and absolute nonsense. If you want any benefit put it on your chest and sniff it, you can't smell it through your feet!"

Of course you can't smell it through your feet. What nonsense is that? However, I have used this technique for years whenever I get a cold. Vicks on the soles of my feet, socks on and go to bed. It absolutely works. I was surprised the first time I did it but I'd had a couple of really bad nights sleep and thought it was worth a try. I slept like a baby.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 31/12/2020 10:02

Someone up thread mentioned garlic on the soles of feet for colds well I can confirm that after wearing garlic cloves in my socks for a week when I was about 9 the smell of garlic did indeed come out of my breath.

I don’t think it cured my cold (would have been gone in a week anyway I guess) but the garlic definitely moved through my body. This was back in the early 80s when I don’t think I had ever eaten garlic so it was definitely from the cloves in my socks - which blooming hurt when I walked!

@Dillo10

That a thin layer of vaseline applied to eyebrows and even eyelashes before bed makes them grow like crazy
I'm going to try this! My eyebrows and eyelashes are looking very sparse these days. 😀

My son has a very sore area on his top lip which never heals. He's tried so many lip balms, I've bought all the high Street brands plus lovely vegan and organic ones. H said he wants to go to the Dr about it but I will try the O'Keefes and Lansinoh as a last resort.

I'm sure there was a cheaper version of Lansinoh I used on nipples but can't remember what it was...

nevernotstruggling · 31/12/2020 11:42

I don't agree that Vaseline helps eyelashes and eyebrows grow. I have trich. It didn't work for me. The lash serum I bought recommended in a paper does though.

Mrsmorton · 31/12/2020 11:51

@Notrightbutok sometimes this can be caused by a fungal infection, you could ask your dr for fucidic acid ointment to help it heal.

Notrightbutok · 31/12/2020 12:29

@Mrsmorton

Thanks, I will mention it, it's on the very tip of his top lip, I remember when I was a kid it getting sore but he's 17 now and doesn't suck his thumb or anything like that!
