We might be craving tiles, but we'll leave the woodchip and artex alone unless we're feeling very brave...

Welcome into another thread covering the whole range of life and death, novelty vegetables, DIY, any other randomness and musings about a certain pandemic.

@starfish88

There must be some kind of mouthwash that can help as I was given one before my dentist appointment but I don't think it was alcohol based. Tasted rank though. In that kind of situation I can see some potential for it helping, I'm happy to do it if it helps protect the dentist as it's not often that I have someone peering in my mouth and to be honest I'm lucky I can still see the dentist. Lots aren't so lucky.
Corsadyl? Burnt off my tastebuds in two doses bleurgh!
MissEWeatherwax · 06/12/2020 20:19

@LivinLaVidaLoki are you doing mail order?
My DD made some bread buns and they are so nice, I’ve been eating without butter. Both my DD’s are on countdown to when they can go in their GD. I think the younger one will be their 24/7 and have made arrangement with DSis for DN to come over.
Spent yesterday watching Christmas tv on Netflix. What a sad life.

Surely just having bad breath will help better with social distancing (though I just remembered we're all wearing masks, so that's a bit of an own goal!)

TheOrchidKiller · 06/12/2020 20:28

I remember now about the mouthwash thing! It wasn't that effective for the general population because it only lasted a few minutes, & people would have to keep repeating it to kill off any covid. They were saying it could be useful at the dentists & for patients being intubated for general anaesthesia.

If anyone starts a thread about health & care workers not going out to the shops I WILL BE READY FOR THEM Grin

QuantumCheese · 06/12/2020 21:29

Ha ha I have definitely found my tribe. I really can’t believe some of the stuff I read on the other bits. Got to keep away coz it gives me the rage.

Justgivemewine · 06/12/2020 21:36

@QuantumCheese, stay here and avoid the corona section for the sake of your sanity (easier said than done)

@AcornAutumn, love the autumn leave poem 😁
I also think the ‘doctors/nurses shouldn’t be allowed out’ has been done somewhere already, it sounds vaguely (sadly) familiar.

AcornAutumn · 06/12/2020 21:54

Thank you just

Another pet hate is people who go on about the “spirit” of the rules.

They probably think if you’ve got to have a scotch egg with your alcohol, you must have a scotch egg with coffee.

I’ll follow the law, thanks.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 06/12/2020 21:56

Now I am probably being thick here but MissEWeatherwax, what is it your DD's are counting down for (GD)? Anyone else who knows is welcome to respond!
With regards to the health care workers, one of my friends is a nurse - in a non covid setting - and during the Summer he wanted to go to the beach or something like that but was worried about being shamed for it. I told him if he was stopped he should tell them he was a nurse and he said that would make it worse, he would end up in the papers as nurse disobeying restrictions! It's ridiculous what we have done to ourselves

whereisthejoy · 06/12/2020 21:58

@TabbyStar you can get Botox for bruxism (it's started reading this thread) Grin

whereisthejoy · 06/12/2020 22:01

...*just

My dentist suggested that but I don’t want to look like I’ve had Botox.

AcornAutumn · 06/12/2020 22:02

Actually I just don’t want Botox!

Recycledblonde · 06/12/2020 22:03

@TabbyStar

Just started reading another covid thread and got to the point where it was suggested that using mouthwash will dilute the virus when you talk

Ah, that would be cheaper, I've been using gin Grin

I’m relying on scotch which I’m currently enjoying. As a paramedic I was granny killing by going out to my local independent Italian last night, (we’re tier 2). Very happy to see lots of elderly couples out, they are putting friends on neighbouring tables so we were party to lots of bellowed conversations which were hilarious. We are testing ourselves twice a week at the moment for work, if we have a positive test we have to book a pcr test but if they’re negative we can carry on, does this mean they expect false positives but not false negatives?
Taswama · 06/12/2020 22:13

Great poem @AcornAutumn .
Welcome to the thread @QuantumCheese .

MissEWeatherwax · 07/12/2020 00:27

@smallandimperfectlyformed , we are in tier 3. And from 23 December they can see their grandparents. At moment we can only see in public space. So being able to go in house will be lovely. Before lockdown, we where tier 2. So it feels like forever that they have been allowed in house.
My parents are over 80 and don’t want to go for a walk in the cold and rain. They also haven’t got broadband. So it has been very difficult. My DD’s are teenagers and are very close to their GD’s.

TabbyStar · 07/12/2020 07:12

I think the lateral flow tests aren't picking up about half of positives.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 07/12/2020 07:39

Thanks for answering @MissEWeatherwax, I should have realized it was grandparents. I wouldn't want to be going out for a cold and wet walk in my 80s either! The tier thing is so unfair, I am in London so happy I am not tier 3 but know lots of other places have lower rates of infections yet are in a higher tier. Feel guilty all of the time about this, and many other things!

CruCru · 07/12/2020 08:04

Crumbs I’ve just read a few of the things on the Coronavirus board. I think I’m going to sit here very quietly for a bit.

ISaySteadyOn · 07/12/2020 08:44

Hide that board, @CruCru. Seriously, it's done me good.

Theredjellybean · 07/12/2020 08:46

I am going on holiday on Sunday.. I know granny killing abroad... And I am a doctor... Omg the corona boards may actually implode.
I have to have a very expensive covid test... Desparate that all family are - ve... Do you reckon gargling and nasal washes in mouthwash, gin, or bleach prior to swab is best?

WouldBeGood · 07/12/2020 08:46

People are “asking to be treated as close contacts, to be on the safe side”🤨

This is where we are in the England average. Tier 3 😭😭😭

Sorry, coffee hasn’t kicked in...where’s that from?

Morning all.

WouldBeGood · 07/12/2020 09:06

@AcornAutumn I glanced at the other place...

It’s terribly sad over there. People genuinely terrified still; not leaving the house, keeping DCs in.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 07/12/2020 09:14

I'm off to a local NT place with my DD. Certainly not keeping her in, but the cold will definitely mean we're home much sooner than usual. Will be stomping around feeling irritated at having to force her out into the chill for some socialisation.
