We might be craving tiles, but we'll leave the woodchip and artex alone unless we're feeling very brave...

Welcome into another thread covering the whole range of life and death, novelty vegetables, DIY, any other randomness and musings about a certain pandemic.

My family are similar with qualifying criteria for hospital transport - it seem random and often seem to be because family member come into contact with someone who knew about it and was willing to book it for them.

But worth asking about in any case - especially if it is the difference to having jab or not.

MercyBooth · 06/12/2020 17:45

the text message says not to call the hospital. The link is online registration only. And yep its genuine. Someone on the thread said they called the hospital to check.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/12/2020 17:54

DM has been simmoned for her flu jab to a random surgery in another part of the town. Fortunately she drives.
She went to the pharmacy attached to her GP to sort out a prescription then said she was going in next-door to sort an appointment as she'd completely failed on the phone. Was appologetically told not to bother as the GP practice is shut up with no one in, and everything is online only.
DM does not have a computer or even a functioning mobile phone since her 2005 clamshell died.
Why should elderly people have to hunt out other people in order to acess healthcare?

If it's OK for the pharmacists to face the disease-ridden public, why are the GPs so pwrecious?
To borrow a favourite Dementors' saying "people will DIE". But hey as long as it's not a sadly Covid death Hmm

@BogRollBOGOF that is absolutely ridiculous. Angry

My GP is doing this

The local pharmacy is having to ask them for repeat prescriptions

It’s madness

QuantumCheese · 06/12/2020 18:08

Not sure if this is the right place to comment on here but you lot seem pretty sane but fucking hell has the world gone mad. Just started reading another covid thread and got to the point where it was suggested that using mouthwash will dilute the virus when you talk. Really? I can’t cope.

WouldBeGood · 06/12/2020 18:10

Hi @QuantumCheese- you can relax, you’ve found your people 😃

It’s lovely and supportive round here, helps do much in a mad world

@MercyBooth

The next chapter of utter stupidity in the Covid saga.

People over 80 in Braintree are being told the vaccines are being administered at Basildon Hospital. There is a thread about it in a local fb group.

a. a lot of ppl over 80 dont drive so will be reliant on public transport. Travelling from Braintree means getting on and off three buses. (my mum wouldnt be able to do that) and as its two jabs people will be expected to do this twice?
b. faffing about like this puts them at risk while travelling surely.

Braintree and Basildon are both in Essex but miles from each other.

Is this actually correct? They seem to change their mind a lot at the moment.

Would it be easier to get on a train to London or should I assume that option isn’t available?

My mum was saying if it’s hard to reach - she can’t do public transport either - she might just wait till they get the other vaccine which I gather is easier to store and more likely to be administered locally.

@AcornAutumn
Star for your autumn mulch poem!

Welcome @QuantumCheese
I have read something -in a highly reputable publication, such as A Newspaper- about mouthwash & covid. Not sure how true it is. Can't quite work out how the hand gel needs to contain 60-70% alcohol to kill covid, & yet mouthwash surely can't be that strong? It would burn, wouldn't it? And there would be people "accidentally" swallowing it & getting pissed. But what do I know?

Had a similar conversation with DH about the vaccine & how is FIL, who doesn't drive, can't walk far, & lives 2 buses away from his nearest hospital, going to get the jab? Taxis cost a fortune. He gets lost easily so MIL will have to go too, but is younger so probably won't get the jab at the same time.If one of us take him that's 2 days off work required, & an 85 mile round trip. He's high up on the priority list. I imagine they will have to re-think the logistics.

Hospital transport is dreadful anyway. Mostly contracted out to private companies or taxi firms. It costs the NHS shedloads.

justasking111 · 06/12/2020 18:42

You have to gargle with mouth wash enthusiastically as far down as you can get. With my gag reflex evening brushing my back teeth can be problematic. Now gin I could gargle with.

I've been relying on Mulled Wine. It's not very high alcohol content, so you have to use more.

Grin Yeah, definitely don't want to take any risks...!

What? You've to talk while rinsing? Still, I suppose it'll keep ventriloquists safe.....
ISaySteadyOn · 06/12/2020 19:43

@QuantumCheese, welcome to the thread. Glad to have you. Smile

starfish88 · 06/12/2020 19:44

There must be some kind of mouthwash that can help as I was given one before my dentist appointment but I don't think it was alcohol based. Tasted rank though. In that kind of situation I can see some potential for it helping, I'm happy to do it if it helps protect the dentist as it's not often that I have someone peering in my mouth and to be honest I'm lucky I can still see the dentist. Lots aren't so lucky.

@QuantumCheese Hi and welcome Xmas Smile

AcornAutumn · 06/12/2020 19:48

Welcome QuantamCheese, excellent name!

I’m half expecting some D to start a thread about how selfish it is for doctors and nurses to shop, eat out etc etc.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 06/12/2020 19:51

For lack of anything more interesting to do, I've spent all afternoon making melomakarona and kourabiedes...then realised that I'm not even in the office to "share the wealth" so going to have to eat them all....
Wonder if DH is going in this week 🤔

LivinLaVidaLoki · 06/12/2020 19:56

Sorry, forgot an explanation, melomakarona are sweets flavoured with honey, oranges and nuts and kourabiedes are sugar dusted butter cookies.
