Another thousand posts filled and we're ploughing on through another weekend of squelching through parks before we hit the Long Dark Teatime of the Soul.

The AD chat continues...

@LivinLaVidaLoki I agree, it’s exhausting and messes with your head.

And never bloody ending. Rumours, press leaks, Rona zone back to March

BogRollBOGOF · 23/11/2020 07:26

@LivinLaVidaLoki

Was thinking last night about how bloody fed up I am of finding out what's happening through tabloid leaks and snippets. Then everyone gets set against each other for a few days then we get some kind of confirmation days later.

Its like we are being kept in a constant state of alert and I have bloody well had it.

My heart sinks when it happens now because it so often is the way things go now (horrifically unprofessional). Not so much heart sinking about the Christmas stuff because I'm seeing that as a breathing space and had no high hopes for plodding on through Jan/ Feb anyway. But if it's about a lockdown or another round of restrictions, I end up feeling sick and anxious for it over the frothed up weekend, until shit is confirmed later in the week.

And who are the Dementors to think that they should deny society their freedoms, their rights to earn money, to see family and friends beyond that that the government? To carp on and criticise people for doing legal things like going to certain shops or out to parks (just don't block the path Wink)
You can blockade youself in the house with Netflix, and disinfect and quarentine everything that enters. Great your choice (not that it is a healthy existence) but don't demand that the rest of society is dragged down to your level of fear.

"Not a proper lockdown"
"Ìs there still a lockdown"

It never was intended to be a month of sealing people in their homes Wuhan style. And if "Rona doesn't know its Christmas" then 'Rona also doesn't give a fucking toss that you filled in a form or stayed within 5k of home to exercise either Hmm

I sometimes cannot believe the bullshit some people come out with.
A friend irl posted something on Facebook about staying safe and how everyone should keep to the rules etc but when I talk to her she is tells me she’s not bothered and that people should make their own assessments. What’s all that about?

Aztectrousers · 23/11/2020 07:39

And well said BogRollBOGOF.

Worldgonecrazy · 23/11/2020 07:45

I hope we get a choice of vaccine. The Johnson & Johnson one sounds a much less likely to cause side effects. I need to do more research first though.

zigaziga · 23/11/2020 08:04

The hypocrisy on MN is fantastic.

It’s like the locked down half term they all wanted.

“There should be a full lockdown otherwise people will DIE. People are just SELFISH.
My DC break up on the Thursday so it should start on the Thursday evening, thank you. Anything else is just OUTRAGEOUS.”

wanderings · 23/11/2020 08:13

Bad news for the dementors this morning: according to the BBC, gyms and shops supposed to reopen on 2nd Dec, and amateur sport allowed back.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55038155

As usual, very thin on detail, and all depending on Saint Boris the ditherer not doing one of his trademark U-turns at the last moment. But I really hope it's true about the sport being allowed back, I've really missed my netball this month.

Reedwarbler · 23/11/2020 08:14

@MercyBooth I have just read that article - not good for my blood pressure! I have no doubt that, in the future there will be a book/film/tv series about the events of 2020 (probably already being worked on by an investigative journo, along the lines of Watergate) and people who are not currently horrified at this situation will have the scales fall from their eyes.

TabbyStar · 23/11/2020 08:22

Hello, thanks for the new thread, it was me trying to stay upright, so I feel honoured!

Drama with DM yesterday, had to call an ambulance, I know it's anecdata, but the twice we've had to call an ambulance during the pandemic they've come in about quarter of the time they usually take before that. They sent her home but she's going back as an outpatient this morning, this happened last time too, where they'd normally admit the now decide the risk is greater because of covid, that must be adding to the death stats from other things.

DD was supposed to be a home water birth but got stuck and I was rushed to hospital. "The fucking candles aren't going to help" went down as a particularly memorable phrase. She was a forceps birth in the end. I've had all sorts of pelvic problems, though I also had SPD during pregnancy, but no one talked to me about the possible impact of forceps on me or her. Hoping you've got a baby now 110!

I've a friend who back in the summer was one of the rabid "stay the fuck at home you granny murderer" types. Constantly posting fake news about body bags/morgues/bodies in the street while going on about how she is worried about her vulnerable parents so we need to take it seriously. She quarantined her post and disinfected her shopping. However she also had a birthday party for her DS and had her folks round for the day every Sunday (she told me this in the summer). I lost a lot of respect for her at that point. Not for doing those things, but for screaming at others who wanted to do them and calling them selfish while she was being a big ol' hypocrite.

I was really concerned about her MH for a while with her constant posting of all this shit, but nope, that was just for show.

wanderings · 23/11/2020 08:25

@LivinLaVidaLoki I too am fed up with "communication by press leaks", and all these hints about what might happen: in my last letter to my MP, I wrote and said so as well. Previously I have cited the way that this method pits sections of the public against each other, hinting that the government is deliberately causing this.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 23/11/2020 08:50

Just seen this on the news:

"The "Covid winter plan" is expected to place more areas into the higher tiers to keep the virus under control to ensure further restrictions are not needed, No 10 said"

Sooooooo where does it mention a full lockdown in January again?

Like I said, I reckon this Christmas will be the new "Street conga/flocking to the beaches" hysteria that won't materialise anything near as bad as they reckon 'over there'.

Also, they think schools are the deadliest places....
Newsflash....they're shut at Christmas. Had you not noticed this?

WouldBeGood · 23/11/2020 09:05

Higher tiers in Scotland has equated to a full lockdown, but with schools open, for huge swathes of the country.

It’s a fucking nightmare.

DrDiva · 23/11/2020 09:15

Yes, I thought there is a contradiction between “higher tiers” and “further restrictions not being needed” - surely higher tiers are further restrictions?

And @thenightsky I fear at times for my marriage too over this - DH is full on dementor. Though part of that is, I think, fear over rule-breaking rather than the virus itself.

There's probably something there about OC vs UC personalities. I've really struggled because I have an OC personality, which is fine until the rules don't make sense and are damaging... but I'm naturally inclined to follow them anyway because of my personality. The conflict between you and your DH is what rages inside my head daily Grin
AcornAutumn · 23/11/2020 09:29

Mercy thank you. I feel much better today.

The “leaks” are test balloons. It’s proof, if it were needed, that these policies are not dictated by medical evidence.

Curlygirl06 · 23/11/2020 09:42

@110APiccadilly

Hello all. (Still nothing exciting to report.)
I had my first normally, but had to be induced in.

I had the twins by cs, also after being induced. All babies born healthy, which is the important thing. Neither way is better or worse, you'll be fine.

Given the choice, I'd steal a nice looking one from outside Waitrose!

@AcornAutumn exactly. Makes a mockery of the whole thing.

Glad you’re feeling better.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 23/11/2020 09:57

Can I ask a question? (Because if you ask it outside of this board you get shouted at for being an idiot)

Are the vaccines proven to reduce transmission? Because I had read somewhere that they weren't.... if so, what's the point in them for healthcare staff who are low risk? Shouldn't they prioritise the vulnerable if it only protects the individual?

AcornAutumn · 23/11/2020 09:58

Curly “ Given the choice, I'd steal a nice looking one from outside Waitrose!”

Great plan. Bonus points for the credit card.

I'm not an expert by any means, but surely if you don't get it, you can't pass it on?
rosettesforjill · 23/11/2020 10:04

My scientist friend seemed to be of the impression it would reduce transmission. (She works in pharma but not directly on this vaccine - she will be up to date on it though)

Orangeblossom7777 · 23/11/2020 10:07

I wondered about that too.

Orangeblossom7777 · 23/11/2020 10:08

and how long it lasts, difficult to tell I guess given the short time frames involved in testing.
