Another thousand posts filled and we're ploughing on through another weekend of squelching through parks before we hit the Long Dark Teatime of the Soul.

The AD chat continues...

Oh look it seems they can go to those areas...

"Only three areas of England restriction-free options for a winter staycation" (Telegraph reports)

People in England have been left with just three relatively restriction-free staycation options this winter, with Cornwall, the Isle of Wight and the Isles of Scilly the only regions placed in Tier 1.

Classed as ‘medium risk’, hotels, B&Bs and campsites will be permitted to reopen, and households will be allowed to mix –provided they comply with the rule of six, when national lockdown is lifted on December 2.

All bars and restaurants will also be given the green light to resume trade, with the daily curfew extended to permit last orders at 10pm, and closure at 11pm.

Whether visitors from other tiers will be welcome is another matter. Earlier this week the chief executive for Visit Cornwall, Malcolm Bell, urged visitors and residents alike to exercise caution over the Christmas period in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the county.

“We didn’t have the feared spike after the summer but Christmas will be more challenging,” he told Cornwall Live. “People over the summer were more likely to go for outdoor walks, and may do so again, but over Christmas people tend to stay within their families more.

“To help keep Cornwall safe, people visiting need to enjoy Cornwall within their bubbles and when they go out for a walk to go back to where they are staying where possible.”

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/11/2020 12:13

Goodness, so a mass travel boom to Cornwall etc, makes so much sense Confused

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/11/2020 12:15

Could just be the paper being optimistic perhaps, people may not in practise allowed to travel.

I loved the Scilly isles, so beautiful.

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/11/2020 12:16

Plus Nicola is saying visitors should social distance even if they’re staying over 😂😂

Is that not a bit biased towards though with huge houses, eh Nicola?

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/11/2020 12:19

Oh I just checked you can travel if in 1 and 2, but not 3...

Am I allowed to go on holiday after lockdown?

England: Yes, if you live in a Tier 1 or 2 area. This includes travel within England.

The guidelines for Tier 1 state: “If you live in a tier 1 area and travel to an area in a higher tier, you should follow the rules for that area while you are there. Avoid travel to or overnight stays in tier 3 areas other than where necessary, such as for work, education, youth services, to receive medical treatment, or because of caring responsibilities. You can travel through a tier 3 area as part of a longer journey.”

For Tier 2, the guidance on travel in England is as follows: “You must continue to follow tier 2 rules when you travel to a tier 1 area. Avoid travel to or overnight stays in tier 3 areas other than where necessary, such as for work, education, youth services, to receive medical treatment, or because of caring responsibilities. You can travel through a tier 3 area as a part of a longer journey.”

However, those in Tier 3 are advised against all travel, including overseas visits

TabbyStar · 26/11/2020 12:22

Tier 3. We started lockdown in tier 1 so that worked then. DD not starting work next week again as expected SadAngry. We are not that high here but other bits of the county are.

TheOrchidKiller · 26/11/2020 12:24

@Dowser
I don’t fancy travelling back from somewhere I’m not familiar with in the cold and dark
Same here. The dark nights have made it far harder to deal with the boredom & the stress. We keep getting told to go outside for fresh air, daylight & exercise because it's good for our mental health. On a work day I get there in the dark, come home in the dark & don't get a decent break (if at all) to go for a walk. And then a day off comes & there's chores to do, & going for a walk feels like an obligation.

I'm hiding in the bathroom so DD doesn't see me cry again. She's already given me a hug & is trying to entice me out on a non-walk. I'm so sad for her- she's had a rotten few years, really turned things around by getting a job, & now it all hangs in the balance because of our tier. Meeting up with friends when they come home from uni isn't allowed either.

I'm used to life not going very well for my family, but the current constant disappointment is too much again.

Blobby10 · 26/11/2020 12:25

And all this for these figures:

latest covid cases 1.56m (out of a population of 66m+)
covid deaths 56553 (out of a population of 66m+)

So gutted for all the hospitality places in Leicestershire - cases in my area were 18 for the last 7 days a drop of a whole 10% (ie 2) on the previous 7 days. But cases in North West Leics are going up so I guess they've lumped us all together for convenience Angry.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 26/11/2020 12:26

I mean, looking at the current r and rate of increase/decrease in infection it makes total sense to put massive areas of the North West into tier 3.
Oh no, hang on.....it doesn't.....

LivinLaVidaLoki · 26/11/2020 12:27

So travel from a tier 3 to a tier 2..would that be illegal or just "advised" not to?

BogRollBOGOF · 26/11/2020 12:29

[quote Orangeblossom7777]Yes, and this was interesting about how women have been taken back to 1950s...don't see the dementing about that though

We like crafts and baking don't we? Hmm

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 26/11/2020 12:29

Can't tell till they publish the regulations, the Government is never honest about what's law and what's only guidance.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 26/11/2020 12:29

Sorry, that was a reply to @Livinlavidaloki.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 26/11/2020 12:32

The gov website states "avoid travel except where necessary such as work blah blah"

But then overnight stays "to be avoided unless with your household or support bubble" so, we can stay overnight as a family but cannot travel to do so?
And they wonder why this is so bloody confusing.

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/11/2020 12:35

I'm not allowed to travel to Scotland though even though in 2. Due to Nicola. I think Confused

Reedwarbler · 26/11/2020 12:35

Hasn't there got to be a vote on this in parliament? It seems to me it is basically just a continuation of lockdown, and a lot of the rules are nonsensical. I mean, tier 2 means you have (supposedly) a lot of infections, yet a couple of thousand are allowed to gather at sports events (or have I got that wrong?). And are they going to ring fence somewhere like tier 3 Bristol to stop people popping up to the Cotswolds for a pub lunch? Stupid, idiotic government.

SirSamuelVimes · 26/11/2020 12:35

Bollocks. Tier two, we were tier 1 last time. And now rates are lower than they were. So we've done a month of lockdown, got fewer cases than we used to, but are now hit with stricter rules? Fuck off.

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/11/2020 12:37

Hasn't there got to be a vote on this in parliament? I think there was maybe at start of the week. Not sure though.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 26/11/2020 12:42

This is where we are. We had just gone into tier 3 when the lockdown happened.

Our rates have plummeted, almost halved in the last 2 weeks alone. We've lower rates than a lot of the tier 2.

Yet, here we are in tier 3 now.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/11/2020 12:50

Bleugh, tier 3.
The problem is it's very patchy across the county. The city cases have peaked and are plummeting, but being a large county, the extremities are influenced by higher rates in Manchester and Sheffield. Nottingham is plummeting too.

At least the childrens' swimming and karate should resume. I miss being able to eat in at a pub or McDonalds though.

Local rate down to 147/ 100,000. Below national average. Hmm

OP posts:
BogRollBOGOF · 26/11/2020 12:51

Clearly 5 days in tier 2 and 4 weeks of national lockdown have done us good Confused

OP posts:
JamSarnie · 26/11/2020 12:56

Below 100 and rates falling and tier 2 Angry

Blobby10 · 26/11/2020 13:11

I guess boris has kept his 'promise' that we would definitely come out of lockdown on 2nd December - they've just kept us in lockdown under another name Sad.

He said if we followed The Roolz then we would be out of lockdown - I have done. My family has done. So why are we still being punished? The longer this goes on, the more it seems to be a test to see how far the Govt can push the people of the country .

AcornAutumn · 26/11/2020 13:12

Essex looks to be Tier 2.

My cousins up north are going to be so upset, Tier 3. Last saw them in March, think they regret not visiting over the summer but it’s been strict for so long there, they got confused about whether they were allowed to come to London, though I thought they were.

justasking111 · 26/11/2020 13:16

They really have stuffed the north. DS in tier 3 Leeds coming out of lockdown despite figures falling. We in North Wales Conwy have had 3 days with 0 cases. But because we live in an area where there are conservative mp`s DH thinks to be a good socialist Drakeford will hammer us anyway just to be fair.
