Another thousand posts filled and we're ploughing on through another weekend of squelching through parks before we hit the Long Dark Teatime of the Soul.

The AD chat continues...

No more with 8 except children (Scotland) apparently. What a fuss.

I also read Nicola was advising not sending presents except vouchers this year, in case it spreads the virus as well...

Say what??? Suck ALL the joy out of Christmas eh.

I despair.

We haven't decided what to do in our household at Christmas. TBF I have stopped giving any shits and would be happy to eat cheese and biscuits, washed down with port for the whole of the festive season, Alone - or I guess with DH and adult DS. I just can't be bothered juggling guests who may or may not be D (my parents are)..

Ugh

AcornAutumn · 26/11/2020 11:13

hoho surely the Ds aren’t going anywhere for Xmas?

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/11/2020 11:13

She always has to be a bit different and better hey? (but really seems a but madder!) yes family in Scotland here, it makes things easier for me to send vouchers to be honest. What about the danger of a handwritten card though. Maybe I will do a Moonpig one to be 'safe' Confused

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/11/2020 11:14

I am saying nothing about Christmas and waiting to see if anyone mentions it.

Dowser · 26/11/2020 11:28

@Iheartmysmart

Interestingly my great nan had very little to do with doctors, preferring to use natural remedies whenever possible. She was 5ft tall and probably the same round and lived to be 101, still as sharp as a tack until the day she died. My Nan is in her late 90s and has a similar view. DM however runs to the GP for every little twinge and practically rattles with all her meds. She actually looks and acts older than her age. Perhaps our bodies know best!
I like the sound of your nans I too do preventative medicine and my health Arsenal occupies a decent sized chunk in my house. I have it all garlic, apple cider vinegar, bentonite clay, make my own colloidal silver, I’ve done kombucha till the mushrooms overflowed my fridge, kefir, sauerkraut, I take d3 and k2 every day , think everyone’s cottoned on to zinc judging by the amount of supplement sellers that are showing out of stock, I take slippery elm, herbal tinctures, have made my own, use Bach flowers, essential oils,, dmso, msm, homeopathy, radionics , energy work, the narayanis We barely get a sniffle We went dairy and gluten free 18 months ago. That makes a massive difference if you are susceptible to sinus problems DH would get regular colds, hasn’t had one for about 18 months or more since i headed it off at the pass with the garlic winter mixture

He was heading for manflu when I passed him the mixture and he manfully took 5 dessertspoons
I was so impressed
He never coughed, sniffled over moaned again after that

I don’t suppose your grans left any books of their remedies did they 🤞🤞🤞
Eye of toad, leg of newt etc 😂

BogRollBOGOF · 26/11/2020 11:29

I now have the frontage of my house illuminated like Blackpool Grin

I'm motivated to manage my weight and exercise, partly from my dad's premature death from his lifestyle. I feel better when my weight is down in the middle of the healthy range. Moving is easier. Being a short pear shape, there's not much hiding space and I see and feel gains quite easily. I've finally shed my lockdown lard. We hear a lot about losing weight, but there's little dialogue about the realities of maintaining at a healthier level. While I do conciously maintain, I'm fortunate that I haven't had the physical and mental complexities of yo-yo dieting to get there.

There is far too much morality attached to weight, and the grim reality is that for most people over 35, it does take effort to manage a healthy lifestyle, and that's without the weight being a symptom rather than a cause in itself. It's not a moral failing, but society does no favours by ignoring the disadvantages and consequences of 2/3s of the population being overweight or obese, and it does skew your perception of what is "normal".

Oh well, it will be just the 2 of us at christmas. Sadly everyone we used to get together with/have stay over has either died in the last 10 years or won't venture out (or is in hospital at deaths door, as in fil).
Re weight. I am overweight - not enormously so, but about 20lbs needs to come off from where it's mostly sitting, which is boobs and stomach (the worst place, health wise). I have lost a stone this year. We eat very healthily, but this weight has crept on over 20 plus years and my big mistake was not tackling it annually. You won't find me eating takeaways, cakes, chocolate bars etc. It really doesn't take much to put on one or two pounds a year. I get annoyed that people presume that because I'm on the bigger side I stuff my face or eat bad foods, which I never do - just eat too much of the good ones occasionally!

Interesting.
Also animals too. Big dogs don’t live as long as smaller dogs...yet how do we account for elephants living longer?

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/11/2020 11:34

I can't bear watching this but cut and paste...most of us in number 2 it seems

Manchester, Birmingham, Kent and parts of Essex are all expected to be placed under Tier 3 restrictions, Matt Hancock will announce.

Addressing the Commons, the Health Secretary, is expected to say only three areas of England will be under the lowest Tier 1 measures - Cornwall, the Isle of Wight and Isles of Scilly.

A vast majority of regions are to face the toughest measures with Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Kent and parts of Essex, Yorkshire and the North East, all placed into the highest tier.

London and Liverpool will both be in Tier 2, meaning pubs and bars must close unless operating as restaurants, meaning they must serve substantial meals and may only serve alcohol with such a meal.

Iheartmysmart · 26/11/2020 11:35

@Dowser I wish she had! It was very much a case of a hot toddy for sniffles, cold compress with lavender for a headache, the dreaded cod liver oil for pretty much everything else. She was also a great fan of fresh air, red wine and dark chocolate.
Nan still lives independently at 95, just has a bit of help with cleaning. She is an avid sports fan and keeps scores in her head that most people would struggle to do with a calculator!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 26/11/2020 11:36

Just watching bbc parliament and the MP for Kensington wanted the government to make sure that the "great capital" is placed into the lowest tier possible in order to get the "great capital" back on its feet.

Seriously she said the words "great capital" so many times. I can't put my finger on why I just wanted to reach through my tellybox and punch her.

Can you tell I'm making the most of a day off today....

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/11/2020 11:37

being announced now, 11.30

AcornAutumn · 26/11/2020 11:38

What? I thought mum in Essex- just scrapes in outside London - might be in Tier 1!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 26/11/2020 11:40

Isn't it great how the press know what tier we are in before it's announced.
We are in tier 3 despite our levels being lower than a lot of those in tier 2.

Ffs. I hate this government I really truly do.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 26/11/2020 11:41

@Orangeblossom7777
Its not been announced yet but its all over the news. Fucking shameful. Utterly utterly shameful

LivinLaVidaLoki · 26/11/2020 11:41

Fuck off Hancock

Dowser · 26/11/2020 11:45

@TheOrchidKiller
I’m feeling a bit walked too

We did to death all areas within a half hour drive in last lockdown..normally we’d still be using our caravan in N Yorks till the end of this month, then packing for Tenerife for beginning of December, so retired with grown up children and grandchildren not needing help so often time can hang a bit heavy with no diversions like an occasional meal out, cinema, library, meeting friends etc
The shorter colder days don’t help either

I don’t fancy travelling back from somewhere I’m not familiar with in the cold and dark

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/11/2020 11:53

Goodness we have older relatives in South Glos which is in 3. Quite a few areas aren't there. We are 2. I switched on heard Hancock say something about families and bubbles and switched off again. Can't bear him and his patronising tone

ISaySteadyOn · 26/11/2020 11:54

Here is an interesting article makemorenoisemanc.wixsite.com/mysite/post/the-feminist-case-for-opposing-lockdowns

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/11/2020 11:55

Dowser something about lower metabolic rate in bigger animals apparently

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/11/2020 11:56

Yes, and this was interesting about how women have been taken back to 1950s...don't see the dementing about that though

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-55016842

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/11/2020 11:57

Can we go to Cornwall then as in 1? (imagines lots packing up and going there) or the Scillies? They are lovely.

ISaySteadyOn · 26/11/2020 12:05

Well, we're only women. Who cares? Angry

TheOrchidKiller · 26/11/2020 12:09

If it lives on a wrapped up selection box & novelty socks then it can live on a Book Token. Stupid cow.

Tier fucking 3. Worse than lockdown & only marginally better than before. They can all fuck off now. I've made DH turn the TV off because I'm in danger of punching it while Hancock's on.

The only tier 1 places are the Isle of Wight, The Scilly Isles & Cornwall. Not that it will be helpful to Cornwall, no one can go there & help keep those tourist areas going.
