Another thousand posts filled and we're ploughing on through another weekend of squelching through parks before we hit the Long Dark Teatime of the Soul.

The AD chat continues...

I have occasional work as a relief passenger assistant on school runs for children with extra needs.

I have to wear a mask on the bus at all times - nightmare. As relief I do different runs and most drivers take their masks off when there are no kids on but the current one doesn't. I got off an overheated bus today, took my mask off and then quickly replaced it. Having been on a hot bus with a mask the temperature contrast was huge. I removed it again after a couple of minutes though.

Thing is to Christmas people all agree to it, and have responsibility really. I started worrying about this as DHs family may invite us. But that is up to them really if they decide to do that. They don't have to.

My mind started worrying about maybe could test them and leave school early after reading some over there, but then I stopped. Even if we did it may not be conclusive and it could just lead to more anxiety. It is all too much.

wanderings · 25/11/2020 20:54

@Orangeblossom7777 This is then leading to people not being asked / encouraged to make choices and think about decisions...it is all a bit strange.

Maybe this time, a little bird whispered in Uncle Boris's ear:
"Listen, Prime Minister, we (the police) can't enforce people not gathering at Christmas. You know we can't. Even the generally ignorant public knows we can't. If you tell people they can't meet at Christmas, they will anyway. The best you can hope for is to appeal to their better nature... and also, don't you want to avoid being satirised as Oliver Cromwell? Here's a nice "jolly" phrase for you."

If someone did tell him all this, it's a step in the right direction.

flower11 · 25/11/2020 21:27

My parents know they are welcome to come to ours for Christmas. Dad has just turned 80, little over weight and on blood pressure medication. I'm working Christmas eve so we are at home. Have primary age DC and me mixing at work. They know the risks and I have left it up to them , and don't mind what they decide.

We do have to to remember that the huge majority of people who get Covid will be fine, even if they’re very old

AcornAutumn · 25/11/2020 21:37

Re masks
The law is due for renewal in December so renewal is inevitable

If it then gets reviewed again in June - optimistic- then I reckon Londoners, at least, will ditch them. They appeared on public transport when they became law.

@Willow2017

We have learned nothing from history. Chipping away at freedoms a bit at a time is how all freedom is lost because everyone thinks "Oh its just temporary. Its a small thing." "Oh one more thing wont be bad" and the people forget what has been lost already when the next thing is taken as they are used to the "new normal". Then the people panic at the thoyght of someone questioning this and see them.as rocking the boat. They cannot believe that thier gov would kdo stuff if there wasnt a good reason and are afraid of the alternative. We need people to revolt and people in authority to stand up and be counted against this loss of liberty for a bug with a 99+% survival rate. People need tp do thier own research into the BS peddled by Wanksock et all and say "Nope not me i am not buying it,"

The masks outside in almost gale force winds in town this week give me the rage too.

But people are dy... No, it's no good, I can't even type the whole sentence.

I wonder if the cold weather has something to do with the mask wearing. If I leave mine on between shops my glasses don't steam up so much in the subsequent shops, so if I'm not going far I'm beginning to leave the mask on.

We do have to to remember that the huge majority of people who get Covid will be fine, even if they’re very old

It's also true that the huge majority of people don't actually have Covid. And almost certainly true that the majority will never get it, or at least won't know if they have.

MercyBooth · 25/11/2020 21:44

Today i tried a winter scarf instead of a face mask. Disaster. Kept slipping so had to touch my face more. Made me get so unbearably hot that i had to pour a small amount of cold water down my back. Doesnt help that shops that are open have their heating up way too high.

AcornAutumn · 25/11/2020 21:50

Please let this be peak stupid. From an MP.

Thats a parody account right?? RIGHT????!!!!!!

MissEWeatherwax · 25/11/2020 22:02

I’m feeling very down at the moment. Nearly Christmas and I feel nothing. I’m on the edge of tears constantly and I am having panic attacks.
Elsewhere, people are virtue signalling that they are better, because they aren’t seeing family. For Christmas.
My DP’s are old enough to have lived though Polio and they can make their our mind up. They are not children.
As soon as shops open, I’m going shopping and sitting in a bloody coffee shop and can’t wait to go to cinema. Living dangerously.

MercyBooth · 25/11/2020 22:03

@MissEWeatherwax Flowers

MissEWeatherwax · 25/11/2020 22:06

Thank you @MercyBooth.

MercyBooth · 25/11/2020 22:09

Thats wound my parents up too. They arent kids. DM worked from 1960 to 2015 in this country, She didnt retire till two months before her 80th birthday So from the age of 24 to nearly 80 she was constantly working. In grotty factory jobs mostly which has affected her health so when i see comments like "people should give up their NHS bed if they do this or that it really fucks me off. Because DM has more than paid for hers. As have many on here no doubt.

WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 22:16

Exactly, @MercyBooth, the NHS is something we’ve paid for... not the other way round.

AcornAutumn · 25/11/2020 22:17

You’d think, but it’s got the blue tick.

Let’s have children decide policy!!! I mean, I can’t even.....😱😱😱😱

I hope there’s something good at the cinema.

I just tried to watch Lion, which was highly rated by family and friends...couldn’t finish it and I think it might have bored me into an early night!

amicissimma · 25/11/2020 22:23

I like that Barry Sheerman thing. Look at all the ADs' replies!

Are some of you on there?

MercyBooth · 25/11/2020 22:34

DM retired on 17 December 2015 So we had a double celebration that year, Christmas and her retirement. We didnt know it at the time but it was also our last Christmas with our beloved cat who had to be PTS in October 2016.

MercyBooth · 25/11/2020 22:36

@AcornAutumn Good God. DH has said that people should have to undergo a psych evaluation before they can become an MP.

MercyBooth · 25/11/2020 22:51

Could be 2026 before economy is back to what it was pre Covid according to Newsnight. Also looking like austerity on steroids.

MercyBooth · 25/11/2020 23:01

I KNEW there was more to it . Re. Basildon protest. Maybe the MSM should have looked a bit harder instead branding them anti maskers.

www.echo-news.co.uk/news/18895263.we-will-not-stop-covid-fight/

Protesters says they wanted to get reassurance the hardship people now face - as well as delays in non-Covid hospital treatment which have resulted in preventable deaths - are outweighed by the scale of the pandemic

Given the announcements about UC today id say they are right to be worried. Maybe they know that after being told to wear a mask to protect others "their betters " it WILL revert back to type and that "all in this together" only applies when it comes to Covid.

MercyBooth · 25/11/2020 23:01

sorry that was meant to be their betters

MissEWeatherwax · 25/11/2020 23:20

I don’t think people care about the poor, it’s all about othering people. It’s back to the deserving and undeserving poor. I believe it’s a defence mechanism( it won’t happen to them, because they are deserving).
I think anger at the moment is the only thing stopping me, falling apart.
I was hoping for Wonder Woman at cinema. I’m a geek and love all superhero movies and sci-fi and fantasy movies and books.

But Wee Nippy said nobody is allowed in! How can he go against our glorious dictator leader?
