Another thousand posts filled and we're ploughing on through another weekend of squelching through parks before we hit the Long Dark Teatime of the Soul.

The AD chat continues...

This will never end, will it? There will always be a new disease to impose more restrictions. Sad

smallandimperfectlyformed · 25/11/2020 17:19

I have felt like that before ISaySteadyOn, and in truth am having an awful day today in terms of mood and covid, but more and more people are now saying that they are unhappy with the levels of restrictions being placed upon them and are more vocal about it. I can't imagine loads of people complying for ages. There is hope, it may only be a small glimmer of light for the moment, but things will improve Flowers

So true. When did we say it was up to the govs to give us permission with an inevitable consequence to see our own family?

AcornAutumn · 25/11/2020 17:44

@ISaySteadyOn

I just ventured off this thread. And am angry and sad now. This feels neverending. And seeing an uptick in mask wearing doesn't help. It felt like an uptick in hostility to me.

Fwiw, I think, if I understood correctly, if a mask causes severe distress, one is exempt. That might help fellow ND people.

Oh so not just me seeing an increase in mask wearing.
ISaySteadyOn · 25/11/2020 17:57

It could have been the time of day. Twas lunchtime when I went out.

DrDiva · 25/11/2020 18:03

Interesting about the visor. I was told I have to teach in one, but I just couldn’t. I felt so hemmed in and panicky and claustrophobic. Fortunately my students are fine with me wearing a mask instead. I don’t like it but I can tolerate it.

This is what I wonder about. What happens next time we have a slightly worse than a average flu season? Once they’ve got us to do something once it’s much easier to get it to happen again, each time with slightly tighter restrictions that we hardly notice at the time, until months/years down the line and we suddenly think “hang on a minute, how did we get to the stage where it’s considered normal go to sainsburys dressed like this”.

Ok I may be exaggerating slightly but I hope you know what I mean 😁😁

I feel that I get used to the idea of living with it etc, and that it will pass, and then another lockdown happens and more dementing from the press and on here, and it feels a bit incessant now.

Hopefully next week things will improve a little, fingers crossed we won;t have another one and things will slowly get back to normal. that is my hope anyway.

Orangeblossom7777 · 25/11/2020 18:43

Like this you mean...

I know. It's awful. The fucking face nappies have become so normalised, it will feel peculiar not to wear them to the shops.

@ISaySteadyOn I'm worried about this too, new diseases being treated like this. This government's response to Convid - sorry, Covid has set an extremely worrying precedent. I'm much more worried about that than I am about the virus. Even when Uncle Boris (I'm getting bored with "Saint Boris") makes some stupid declaration "the plandemic is over, but you'll still have to do blah blah blah, just because I'm a pervert who likes seeing the public in face nappies", we need to be fighting this tooth and nail. If the government has its way, many restrictions will become permanent, by stealth, when they think we're not looking. We have a duty to be extremely observant about this.

Bring on the riots.

wanderings · 25/11/2020 18:57

And we need more dissenters, like this salon owner, who has defiantly stayed open, and is challenging every fine she gets.

Sooner or later, the government has to get the message that people will only be governed by consent. At the moment, people are still sadly believing the fearmongering; this tiny minority will eventually grow. It has to.

Justgivemewine · 25/11/2020 19:05

Oh blimey @Orangeblossom7777,

It’s actually really sad that people have had that much fear instilled into them.

AcornAutumn · 25/11/2020 19:06

I saw the same thing on Monday at 10am. Masks outside. Gives me the rage.
Orangeblossom7777 · 25/11/2020 19:11

It is sad. I just realised the last one, well it is my own GP surgery..I recognise it, in the centre. The hazmat man in the white suit. Oh dear.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/11/2020 19:42

There seemed to be a flurry of al fresco face rags in the first week of this lockdown and they seem to have fizzled again. In fact a lot of the heading out for walks seems to have fizzled too.

Judging by the amount of noses making bids for freedom, masks will not become the majority default. You'd have to be very confident to plough on with masks indefinitely. Most people will be happy to leave them firmly behind in the madness of this year.

Help! Just had to follow a one way system in an empty Argos! ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused

Willow2017 · 25/11/2020 20:07

We have learned nothing from history. Chipping away at freedoms a bit at a time is how all freedom is lost because everyone thinks "Oh its just temporary. Its a small thing." "Oh one more thing wont be bad" and the people forget what has been lost already when the next thing is taken as they are used to the "new normal". Then the people panic at the thoyght of someone questioning this and see them.as rocking the boat. They cannot believe that thier gov would kdo stuff if there wasnt a good reason and are afraid of the alternative.
We need people to revolt and people in authority to stand up and be counted against this loss of liberty for a bug with a 99+% survival rate.

People need tp do thier own research into the BS peddled by Wanksock et all and say "Nope not me i am not buying it,"

The masks outside in almost gale force winds in town this week give me the rage too.

Pootle40 · 25/11/2020 20:08

On another thread there is a poster's DH doesn't want to visit a family house at Christmas because they have it now and the house will be covered in COVID. Wake me up when this is over Hmm

Onlyherefortheconspiracies · 25/11/2020 20:10

Can't believe the rage on the thread over Christmas mixing. Saying if we don't isolate for 14 days we're killing grannies. I need to get a train home to my folks as I don't drive. Both should have died 20 years ago but haven't and want to live before they do die. Part of that is having a day with their kids at Christmas.Their choice.

Curlygirl06 · 25/11/2020 20:16

I can't understand people driving with them, when they're in the car on their own?!

In other news, first day back at work, bloody hell I could have kicked puppies after an hour!

Not that I would but you know what I mean!
Orangeblossom7777 · 25/11/2020 20:22

I think what seems to be happening personal responsibility for making these decisions is being eroded by these rules, therefore it is all about being responsible for others

This is then leading to people not being asked / encouraged to make choices and think about decisions...it is all a bit strange.

And alongside this the loss of freedoms. It is almost as if older people have become somehow infantilised and considered incapable of understanding and being able to decide.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/11/2020 20:31

Then if personal responsiblity resumes around Easter as suggested, who's going to have the balls to say "back to normal, real normal" and who's going to play the "safe" game? Capacity is a matter of financial survival, but face rags? Hopefully warmer weather will kill them off.

I saw one post saying they hope that people continue wearing masks in crowded areas.

There's another poster asking if they should put Perspex on between places at the table and wear masks at Christmas. I thought it was a joke but it appears it isn't.

Wake me up when this shit show is over

MercyBooth · 25/11/2020 20:40

I was just coming on to say that Over There has streams of posts about the Christmas easing of restrictions. I pointed out that Wanksock said he was having his FIL over and Gove said he was planning to drive up to Scotland
Radio silence
They just carry on lambasting the public for wanting to spend Christmas with their families. Even if its a small gathering like mine will be with no booze. Assuming everybody is going to have a giant piss up. What is with this thinking we are all a load of drunks.
