What has the Indian takeaway given us?? Pic included

Ordered a takeaway tonight, all very nice, but instead of the mushroom bhaji I ordered they have given us this. It's some kind of a sweet thing, like crunchy sugar. Definitely no mushrooms. Thing is, DS loves it and wants it again next time, and I can't work out what it is. They don't even have a dessert section on their website! (It is very nice.)

Oh interesting, looks like coconut, is it?

Thistles24 · 13/11/2020 21:02

It looks similar to the inside of a peshwari nann bread🤔

GCAcademic · 13/11/2020 21:02

How odd. It looks like toasted coconut to me.

It's Diwali so there are loads of special delicious Indian treats around right now! Happy munching!

GCAcademic · 13/11/2020 21:03

I think Thistles24 may have it.

QueenOfPain · 13/11/2020 21:04

Could it be something like Tahdig? Doesn’t really fit with the Indian takeaway though.

PinkFondantFancy · 13/11/2020 21:05

Maybe halwa?

TooStressyTooMessy · 13/11/2020 21:07

Looks like a peshwari naan to me too. Does it seem like very sweet naan bread? They are divine.

Squintybumcheek · 13/11/2020 21:08

Looks like dry coconut chutney for poppadoms maybe?

LittleRa · 13/11/2020 21:09

Coconut barfi?

HardAsSnails · 13/11/2020 21:13

No idea what it is, one of my local takeaways is a bit crap but they always include a little tub of the most delicious rice pudding ever, which almost makes up for the mediocre food.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/11/2020 21:22

100% certain it's not coconut. Tried to take a better picture but no use!

You have to ring them and ask, OP. I want to know!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/11/2020 21:26

I love the coconut sprinkles some places do for poppadoms. Never found a takeaway that does them though. This is more like concentrated sugar, with a slightly caramelized taste. DS has told me about 50 times to save it (as if takeaway ever gets binned in our house Hmm).

Patissa?

I will do them a review on JustEat and ask them!

Coconut rice. My mum gets it and it doesn't have pieces of coconut in but more like a granulated sugar with coconut flavouring iyswim?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/11/2020 21:28

Definitely not Tahdig or halwa, sorry! It's really crunchy.

GrumpyHoonMain · 13/11/2020 21:29

Hmm the photos are terrible but could be sukhi sevaiya. Its more commonly a Pakistani or Bangladeshi dish though, not Indian, but as most chefs are Bangladeshi it’s a possibility.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/11/2020 21:29

Definitely no coconut taste!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/11/2020 21:30

Googled patissa and doesn't look like that either. Mystery!

But I’m assuming you have definitely ruled out a coconut dish. A lot of South Asian restaurants use freshly grated and it doesn’t test like coconut at all lol.
HelpMeh · 13/11/2020 21:33

Could you phone them and put us out of our misery? I want to eat it Grin

neonjumper · 13/11/2020 21:36

I think I know what it is but don't know what it's called .

I think it's a type of sweet vermicelli .

GCAcademic · 13/11/2020 21:36

Is the crunchy stuff vermicelli?
