What has the Indian takeaway given us?? Pic included

Ordered a takeaway tonight, all very nice, but instead of the mushroom bhaji I ordered they have given us this. It's some kind of a sweet thing, like crunchy sugar. Definitely no mushrooms. Thing is, DS loves it and wants it again next time, and I can't work out what it is. They don't even have a dessert section on their website! (It is very nice.)

Google sweet vermicelli.

We call it semiya.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/11/2020 21:40

@GrumpyHoonMain yeah, sorry, awful photos! It looks more like that than anything else...

I have left them a review asking what it was... Don't want to bother them during the Saturday night rush! Might pop in tomorrow...

Is it orange color? My DH loved a dessert in India that was essentially grated carrot and sugar...

Potustrumpnomore · 13/11/2020 21:59

Ohh i wonder what it is. It sounds good though

PurpleDaisies · 13/11/2020 22:01

Just here for the update...

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/11/2020 22:02

@Tinyandpetite thank you! Feels weird to read that thread now - I've been Jesus for yonks.

Nope, definitely not carrot and I don't think it's jaggery. It's a bit too rough in texture to be vermicelli I think.

I do wonder if they've accidentally given us a tub of some sort of topping or raw ingredient, and we've just been scarfing it down like heathens. Grin

Looks like something called Feniya. Also spelt pheni. It’s a type of vermicelli which is softened in ghee and sugar, usually with saffron and pistachios. My Punjabi Nan makes it every year for Diwali and as it’s Diwali tomorrow, that’s my best guess

Zoolally · 13/11/2020 22:05

@HelpMeh

Is it this?
Yes I think it’s a variation of this
frustrationcentral · 13/11/2020 22:10

Shamelessly placemarking...

BrutusMcDogface · 13/11/2020 22:12

We had some kind of crunchy, sweet thing in a tub once as part of the popadom pickle tray! Had no idea what it was but it could be the same thing (also place marking! 🤣)

ApolloandDaphne · 13/11/2020 22:15

I would have scarfed it down too!

Begonias · 13/11/2020 22:19

It's called pathisa. It's sugar strands with crushed pistachio, almonds and sometimes cardomoms

SweetMilkyFilth · 13/11/2020 22:25

Sutarfeni but all crushed up?

colette1970 · 13/11/2020 22:29

Ring them and ask them what it is

BrightYellowDaffodil · 13/11/2020 22:30

Some sort of falooda?

Rubyroost · 13/11/2020 22:30

ALSO P MARKING
