What has the Indian takeaway given us?? Pic included

Ordered a takeaway tonight, all very nice, but instead of the mushroom bhaji I ordered they have given us this. It's some kind of a sweet thing, like crunchy sugar. Definitely no mushrooms. Thing is, DS loves it and wants it again next time, and I can't work out what it is. They don't even have a dessert section on their website! (It is very nice.)

I am intrigued!

Begonias · 13/11/2020 22:32

Or maybe it's vermicelli in sugar syrup, sevian . I need some sugar now ,off to have some cake.

HollowTalk · 13/11/2020 22:35

@Begonias

It's called pathisa. It's sugar strands with crushed pistachio, almonds and sometimes cardomoms
Oh god, that sounds amazing.

EasttoWest · 13/11/2020 22:39

I think it’s seviyan too and yes Indians do have seviyan! I grew up on my grandmother’s seviyan!

SheilaWilcox · 13/11/2020 23:07

gg12346 · 13/11/2020 23:07

Iwantacookie · 13/11/2020 23:11

No idea but if anything I think it looks like a coconut macaron Blush

SquirtleSquad · 13/11/2020 23:20

It's so weird looking Grin

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 13/11/2020 23:26

BrownOwlknowsbest · 13/11/2020 23:33

I don’t know. But now I fancy a takeaway curry (and we already had a curry for dinner tonight!).

I’m a piggy.😄

Giraffey1 · 14/11/2020 00:09

I need to know what the takeaway guys say!

Off to go google
Sounds lovely!
Our local Indian, as lovely as it is doesn't do anything fancy like this lol

Quaagars · 14/11/2020 00:44

Ha, see yes, there's always one who comes up with the sensible answer Grin
Do they have a FB page?
Upload a photo, tell them it's delicious then bloody ask lol

Spaghettibetty345 · 14/11/2020 00:56

It looks like something called sutalfine in my parents home country? I googled it and in Indian it’s called sutarfeni which another poster has commented?

Chillichutney1 · 14/11/2020 00:57

It’s not gajar halwa or seviyan/vermicelli, I think it’s soan papdi or shom papri. It’s melt in the mouth like candy floss isn’t it OP? It’s delicious, one of my favourite sweets, don’t blame you for scoffing it Grin

BugCatcher879 · 14/11/2020 01:00

I love the naan bread filling

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 14/11/2020 09:32

Update! Had this reply to my review:

Hi Mrs Awesome, Thank you for the review and kind words. The mystery dish is special home cooked dessert, you can find something similar to it if you enter "shemai" on Google. Fantastic to hear that your son loved it! Hope to hear from you guys soon.

I should probably explain the 'Mrs Awesome'. Grin When I signed up to JustEat, I managed to balls it up somehow and it just refers to me as 'Mrs'. Evidently the takeaway guy felt that was a bit impersonal, so has upgraded me. Very tempted now to change my Just Eat name to Mrs Awesome...

Is it made of flour?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 14/11/2020 09:53

It is vermicelli (before I saw the reply I poured a bit of hot water on it to see if it dissolved).

Plussizejumpsuit · 14/11/2020 10:04

Ok I would say Sutarfeni. As other one tends to be less of a dry dessert. But there's a lot of variation in names for things!
