I was a student in Leeds during his reign of terror. I won't mourn his death.

Good. He lived too long.

Ginfordinner · 13/11/2020 08:26

And cost the tax payers a lot of money.

Delighted to hear this. I was a teenager in Leeds at that time. By the time he was caught I was a student in London. I remember picking up the paper and seeing the news and the visceral sense of relief, tempered by fear that they might have got the wrong person.

I don't know if that excellent 3-part BBC documentary about the appalling police investigation is still available to view.

Thinking today of the 13 women he murdered and their families, and all the other victims.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 13/11/2020 08:31

I seriously hope the bastard suffered horribly first

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/11/2020 08:35

He had Covid and refused treatment, so it's possible.

AuntieMarys · 13/11/2020 08:37

Very happy to hear this. I too was a student at the time and it was horrendous. The police and press behaved disgracefully

Svelteinmydreams · 13/11/2020 08:38

Another who won’t mourn. I am not a believer, but I hope in this instance that I am proven wrong and he is burning in hell.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/11/2020 08:42

He was in Broadmoor for a long time and latterly in prison. I assume he was transferred out of Broadmoor because they no longer believed he was mentally ill. To use an old-fashioned phrase, he was clearly not right in the head, whatever the cause.

My objection to the death penalty is mainly from concern about miscarriages of justice. Where there is no doubt whatsoever about guilt, I'd have no issues with it being used. A rogue animal of any other species which had proved to be a danger would be put down. Serial killers, sex offenders who've been convicted more than once and others who are clearly not going to change and will always be too dangerous to live in the community - what's the point in keeping them alive? If this puts me somewhere to the right of Genghis Khan, so be it.

Bigbluefence · 13/11/2020 08:46

That man was purified evil, may he NEVER rest in peace

picklemewalnuts · 13/11/2020 08:49

Better forgotten. Remember his victims and their families. Don't give him the oxygen.

GreyBow · 13/11/2020 08:50

Remembering his victims and thinking of their families.

YellowHighlighterPen · 13/11/2020 08:53

Good. Hope the victims' families can have some peace.

Fouroclockonamarblemorning · 13/11/2020 08:57

Good news. I hope it was long and painful.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 13/11/2020 09:09

This exactly. The best thing is to remember his victims and let him fade into obscurity.
Plussizejumpsuit · 13/11/2020 09:10

I heard on radio 4 the other day he had covid but was refusing treatment.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. I remember very clearly when he claimed his last victim and when South Yorkshire Police arrested him for the final time - over a traffic offence, I think.

feelingverylazytoday · 13/11/2020 09:16

Good news. It's a shame it didn't happen years ago.

peachescariad · 13/11/2020 09:17

Some good news at last - rot in hell

theotherfossilsister · 13/11/2020 09:22

My mum stopped driving alone when he was about. A small thing compared to murder, but how many tiny freedoms did he steal from young women?

I hope he didn't infect staff other prisoners with covid by refusing treatment

Twisique · 13/11/2020 09:23

Did they find the remains of all his victims?

theotherfossilsister · 13/11/2020 09:24

@GreyBow thank you for listing the women who he killed.

Please can I tweet the list? It's good to remember it's about them.

No, he was caught on foot very close to my old student halls, and found to be prepared for a sex attack.
InsanityOf2020 · 13/11/2020 09:45

Is cheering the wrong reaction to this news?

whitetilesmurf · 13/11/2020 09:54

Good. I hope after it being on the news today that name is never mentioned again.
