And im a bit 😏 about it. Just doesn’t hit spot for me.

Its a bit played down to what they have produced in the past.

Ohh yes the boy and the satsumas ....I been trying to find that one again Xmas Grin

ZeroFuchsGiven · 13/11/2020 10:13

@Sparklingbrook

I liked last years Argos one with the little girl on the drums. It was fun.
This Years is quite fun too!
throughawindowdarkly · 13/11/2020 10:21

I liked it although have found my own attempts at random acts of kindness are often, but not always met with suspicion.

This is the walkers crisp advert:

This our favourite so far has been the Disney one, but then me, my sister and Dd are big Disney fans as it is.

I quite like the JL. I don't mind having a Covid free Christmas ad either.

Aragog · 13/11/2020 10:32

Ah I quite like that Argos one too.
I remember many a childhood sat with an Argos catalogue and a pen.

BiddyPop · 13/11/2020 10:33

So far, I've enjoyed McD's and SuperValu. Not John Lewis. Lego was interesting and fun. Kevin the carrot continues his adventures which is fun too.

But it was both McDs (I have a teenager!) and SV that felt right.

BiddyPop · 13/11/2020 10:34

Oh, Walkers was ok - but not a winner.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 13/11/2020 10:51

The Walkers one is very Christmassy but I can't stand LadBaby.

Fieldofyellowflowers · 13/11/2020 10:55

Underwhelmed but apparently they had a massively reduced budget due to circumstances and they initially weren't even sure if they were going to do a Christmas advert this year. So I think they have done the best that they can given the situation.

Very's christmas advert has also left me underwhelmed.

BogRollBOGOF · 13/11/2020 11:11

I like it. I like the animations and the tone. It's a realistic halfway in a low-key Christmas vibe not rubbing in the lack of festivities, and thank goodness not an in your face Covid approach either.

I want the song to be the Bugsy Malone one though. You give a little love and it all comes back to you bah bah bah ba-ba ba bah Grin

KiposWonderbeasts · 13/11/2020 11:37

I think it's great.

They had a vastly redusced budget. They chose to spread the work between a bunch of animators, they are reminding us to be generous, and are fundm atching up to £2million to fgoodbanks.

It's entirely in keeping with their values as a co-op. I'd like a morte uptempo song, but at least it's an original.

KiposWonderbeasts · 13/11/2020 11:45

Oh god.

Because of you lot I've watch a McDonalds ad AND NOW I'M IN BITS!

And feel the urge to watch Coco again.

But none of that matters because the nurse is gonna give the kid cove by putting the plaster on her glasses 😂😂😂😂
JamminDoughnuts · 13/11/2020 12:24

and JL used Graduate animators, so kudos to them

HazeyJaneII · 13/11/2020 12:26

I think its lovely. Love the use of all the different animation, it hit the right notes for me.

Longdistance · 13/11/2020 12:32

The JL ad seemed very London centric.
I love the Amazon ad and Aldi’s Kevin carrot.

TrumptyDumpty · 13/11/2020 12:40

The best Christmas ad was the Sainsburys one with the plug Grin

This is an interesting observation, in what way did it seem London centric??
Madcats · 13/11/2020 13:51

I have a bird phobia, pigeons doubly so. I am going to have nightmares about that bird at the start!

It felt too disjointed to me, but I am pleased that they are supporting such important charities.

I wonder what Mr John Lewis of Twitter will be gifted (he's only just returned to Twitter). That Twitter ad was brilliant incidentally.

Longdistance · 13/11/2020 13:52

Big red bus was a give away. Shop in the background looked like Liberties.

WhenTwoBecomeThree · 13/11/2020 13:58

It wasn't as good as previous years but I think I read somewhere that it's a nod to all the generous things people have done through a tough year and how people have pulled together which struck a cord and made me like it more I think. McDonald's is still the winner for me this year though

Wtfdidwedo · 13/11/2020 14:12

I don't know what Liberties is but I live in Wales and didn't feel like it didn't "represent" me.

PandemicImpact · 13/11/2020 14:32

Okay. Just cried at the McDonald's and the Irish supermarket ones.

junglepie · 13/11/2020 15:11

I really liked it, haven't really liked the Jul ones for past couple of years either. I thought the tone of this was spot on for this year. Loved the clever use of animation, even better they used such a variety of animators. I even liked the song too! Mc Donald's one is OK but a bit cliche for me.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 13/11/2020 16:47

OMG the Coca-Cola one! I was determined not to well up, but it got me. Bit odd Taika Waititi directed it but it’s a goody.
