And im a bit 😏 about it. Just doesn’t hit spot for me.

Its a bit played down to what they have produced in the past.

I don't get it, lots of people miserable whilst someone sings about the atmosphere

starrynight19 · 13/11/2020 09:35

It was ok , think it would have been hard to gauge the public mood for a Christmas advert this year.
Like that they used different artists to celebrate the arts but think it was a bit too disjointed.
Great charity’s that they are supporting though and the money they are pledging for them.

@JamminDoughnuts

the one with the dog is terrible, Sad
The dog one is also delaying. Buy my song else the old people will die alone on the moors

JL might not be pushing products so forcefully and claiming to put the emphasis on kindness, because so many people are struggling and facing massive financial hardship this year, but the family decorating the tree at the end still live in the kind of house most of us can't even dream of.

GuillermoVanHelsing · 13/11/2020 09:39

I quite liked it.

The Long Wait will always be my favourite though- so sweet and cleverly done

Winterfellismyhome · 13/11/2020 09:41

I love that SuperValu one. Absolutely lovely

SleepingStandingUp · 13/11/2020 09:44

Oh I found the right one, give a little love. You're all miserable, o thought it was lovely

Morgan12 · 13/11/2020 09:46

Coca cola wins this year hands down.

SleepingStandingUp · 13/11/2020 09:48

I can't believe people are actually complaining about how they're all gonna give each other Corona virus!!

pantsville · 13/11/2020 09:49

Always a lot of pressure on JL to produce an iconic tearjerker Christmas ad every year. Their adverts don’t normally appeal to me really and this one is no different.

McDonald’s was good though. They really captured that turning point in every child’s life, and cleverly tied it in with the nostalgia and comfort of mum buying you your favourite dinner. Really lovely actually.

ShowOfHands · 13/11/2020 09:51

I'm usually left cold by the JL ones.

I liked this. I liked the animation styles, how underplayed it was, the simplicity. I think the tone was just right.

They won't win though. Too festive and people bemoan the fact that there's a pandemic and people shouldn't be encouraged to spend spend spend. Underplay it and people whinge that they aren't being pushed to overspend.

Love the McDonald's effort. 9yo DS howled and apologised for being an occasional grump. We had a cuddle and talked about Christmases past and how much he's growing up. It was quite lovely.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/11/2020 09:53

The JL one

I loved the McDonalds one even though the little shit pre-teen boy only gets animated when his Mum buys him a MaccyD Meal and he doesn't even eat his bloody carrots Xmas Grin

MagicSummer · 13/11/2020 09:53

It's awful! Why do they always have some breathy female 'singing' some song I have never heard of? Don't like it at all.

The best ever Christmas advertisement, in my opinion, was the Sainsbury's WW1 one with the truce between the troops.

pantsville · 13/11/2020 09:54

I’m also happy to see Covid left out of Christmas adverts. I’ve well and truly had enough of it all and any opportunity to forget about it all is very welcome. There’s nothing remotely fun about it and at this point I just roll my eyes when I see ads featuring masks or “2020 amirite?!” type content. Done with it all a long time ago

catsareme14 · 13/11/2020 09:54

@mrswhites sobbing into my hot cross bun.

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2020 09:56

Yes I don’t think we need to see animated characters in masks 2 metres apart thanks very much. I prefer COVID free Christmas adverts.

catsareme14 · 13/11/2020 09:57

@Ratchetine . Sobbing !!!

Ickabog · 13/11/2020 09:58

I agree with you. Although I like a lot of Christmas adverts, nothing comes close to how touching and well done that one was.

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2020 10:00

I liked last years Argos one with the little girl on the drums. It was fun.

WellThankyouAJPTaylor · 13/11/2020 10:02

Oh, I really like it, even though in general I'm a bit sick of the "be kind" message. I think it works here because they've kept it so pared-back.
It's simple and the animations are quite sweet and a bit retro.

Totally disagree that there should have been more pandemic in it. We know there's a pandemic - we're all well aware. I don't want it horning in on everything.

The only one I really disliked was the Elton John one.

MrsWhites · 13/11/2020 10:03

@ShowOfHands 😭

You’ve got your own John Lewis advert right there and your son sounds absolutely lovely!

BabyYoda · 13/11/2020 10:03

SuperValu for the win this year!

MrsWhites · 13/11/2020 10:04

I’d forgotten about the Sainsburys ones, the WW1 one was absolutely lovely and I also loved last years with the chimney sweep turning into Santa 😢

Touching? No touching please - keep your 2m distance! Smile
SleepingStandingUp · 13/11/2020 10:11

Yup, Super Valu for me
