Who is cooking a roast dinner today, and what will it consist of?

I'm doing:

Roast sirloin
Yorkshire puddings
Roast potatoes in beef dripping
Carrots with maple syrup
Cabbage with bacon garlic and cream

All very unhealthy but it is Sunday!

Not a roast but I've made a chicken, leek and mushroom pie, with leeks from my allotment. I make gorgeous buttery short pastry though I say so myself. Allotment grown sprouts and broccoli, mashed potatoes and gravy. The pie is huge so we'll have tomorrow with chips and peas.

QueenofLouisiana · 08/11/2020 16:32

Chicken here, I don’t eat meat and my family won’t be bothered what it is.
Yorkshire pudding (one large one).
Roast potatoes.
Cabbage.
Carrots or French beans, I haven’t decided yet.
Gravy and stuffing.
Quite simple as I’ve been making the Christmas cake today.

If I hide the extra potatoes and cabbage I hope to make bubble and squeak tomorrow.

Chasingsquirrels · 08/11/2020 16:33

The bloke I'm seeing is current pottering round my kitchen doing one for us & my boys (I'm slowly recovering from an eat infection and am worn out from making brownies earlier). He went and got a chicken from the coop earlier.
Roast chicken, roast potatoes, roast parsnips & carrots, sprouts & boiled carrots. Might do some Yorkshire puddings as the dc's like then regardless. Oh and stuffing - I'll have to remind him of that. And peas.

Would usually go to my parents for sunday roast.

Oh that looks glorious! I was too excited about our last beef roast to take a photo before we tucked in but I remembered to take a photo of the tray of Yorkshire pudding I made a couple of days later to use up some of the leftovers. It was my first time making it (it’s usually DH’s job) and I was very proud that it turned out perfect! 👌

We normally go to pil every Sunday so today ds2 has helped me and dh make a cottage pie (with a cheesy top of course) Much as I love our Sunday roasts there was a gorgeous moment when i looked over whilst stirring the mince and saw dh helping ds to chop the celery, all of us cooking together (dh isn't usually home until past 6 so we rarely get to eat together). I'm really trying to focus on the little things this lockdown, I have a lot to be thankful for even if I miss seeing my family.

Wow, that sounds amazing

Thanks Dixie, it's smelling amazing at the moment. We're not eating until about 7 and I'm bloody starving (am consoling myself with my traditional pre-Sunday dinner Bloody Mary).

LadyLindaT · 08/11/2020 17:13

I swear I only roast things for the stuffing, gravy, pigs in blankets and Yorkshire puddings, cranberry sauce and horseradish sauce. (Not necessarily all at the same time!)

Roast tomorrow i was too busy today.

Beef
Roasies
Carrots
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Homemade Yorkshire puddings

Never used garlic etc. I think its tasty enough without adding herbs/spices/garlic. No need.

bluechameleon · 08/11/2020 18:08

Chicken and stuffing. Roast potatoes, parsnips, purple carrots and Brussels sprouts. Boiled orange carrots and runner beans. Probably Yorkshire puddings. Apple and blackberry crumble for pudding.

ShrikeAttack · 08/11/2020 18:28

Your Yorkshire's look great Dixie.

Nice pink beef too!

jessstan1 · 08/11/2020 18:29

Lovely menu, Dixie. Yum!

DixieLandReject · 08/11/2020 19:44

Love the pics!

1kg of beef, cooked for 40 mins, on 200 degrees, usually gets the right result I find! I.e pink

@JorisBonson same here! Brisket cooked in the slow cooker with red wine and some water. Then added some bistro to the liquid whilst I put the meat under foil and brought to the boil.

We had
Roast potatoes
Roasted parsnips and carrots
Steamed broccoli and cabbage
Cauliflower cheese
Batter puddings

It was delicious!
I love my meat rare but my youngest will only have fall apart well cooked beef!

Tonight we had roast chicken, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, carrots, kale and gravy.
Then some nigella chocolate fondant pot things with clotted cream.
We have a roast most sundays during the winter.

DixieLandReject · 08/11/2020 22:13
