Roast potatoes in beef dripping
Carrots with maple syrup
Cabbage with bacon garlic and cream

All very unhealthy but it is Sunday!

I've done the prep this morning i.e par boiled the spuds, fried the lardons, make the Yorkshire pudding batter and now I'm on a little walk to build my appetite.

I usually like to sink a glass (or five) of wine whilst preparing but I'm starting a new job tomorrow so no can do!

I do Sunday roasts most weeks unless something else is on (which won't be the case for the next 4 weeks 😂).

Tonight it'll be chicken, but I don't go to all the trouble many of you do, a roast to me isn't particularly a different kind of meal from any other, except for Xmas or when entertaining.

So:
Chicken
Roasties (I just cook them in the fat that runs off the meat usually, plus the oil that I've covered the roast in)
Whatever veg I pull out of the fridge first, likely to be something green, maybe broccoli, kale, leeks.
Homemade gravy (made in the pan while the roast is being carved)
Maybe some Paxo if I remember at the last minute.
If I'm feeling particularly indulgent, some cauliflower/broccoli cheese.

Nothing special for pudding, but there's always something hanging around (off the top of my head: banana bread, ice cream, a variety of biscuits, some chocolate).

I'm very impressed with the work many of you put in for a Sunday 😀

BeBesideTheSea · 08/11/2020 12:51

Solina · 08/11/2020 12:59

We have a roast pretty much every Sunday during colder months as it is my favourite. Never loads of sides as it is just 2 of us.

DP is probably going to make it and we are having:

Chicken
Roast potatoes
Stuffing
Carrots
Sprouts
Turkey gravy from a packet. We are trialling to see if it nice enough for Christmas as I don't know if I can be bothered to make the Jamie Oliver one when there is just 3 of us this year.

Treacle tart for pudding with ice cream.

DixieLandReject · 08/11/2020 13:00

I'm gleaning some fabulous new ideas for future roast dinners!

midnightstar66 · 08/11/2020 13:03

Me, hardly ever have time so am looking forward to it and going all out. Roast chicken with roast pots and creamy mash, cauli cheese, broccoli, baby corn, carrots, stuffing, Yorkshire's and gravy.

midnightstar66 · 08/11/2020 13:03

Oh, forgot - red cabbage too

DixieLandReject · 08/11/2020 13:14

Anyone having a laced sherry trifle for dessert? Wink

OP posts:
DorisDay88 · 08/11/2020 13:22

You certainly do!
Put whole medium sized swede as it is in the microwave for approx 10 mins, turn it upside down and repeat
Once it cools slightly cut in half, scoop out flesh and mash!
It sometimes sings as it’s microwaving, an added bonus

marmitedoughnut · 08/11/2020 13:22

Never realised cauli cheese was such a staple - glad I bought a cauli this week now (first time in ages) and it is definitely getting cheddered!

sausagedoglove · 08/11/2020 13:28

Most Sundays here!

Today it's:
Roast pork
Roast potatoes
Creamed cabbage
Peas and corn
Gravy
Yorkshires

😋

Napqueen1234 · 08/11/2020 13:29

We normally do a roast because I love it we all eat together (3yo and 11mo) as usually they eat a lot earlier. Today we are having toad in the hole with mushy peas (DH) and garden peas for the rest of us, kalets and carrots. Lots and lots of gravy. Can’t wait already.

Frlrlrubert · 08/11/2020 13:29

Roast beef here (topside I think)
Yorkshires
Roast potatoes
Roast carrots
Roast parsnips
Broccoli

I'm wishing I'd thought to do red cabbage now someone has mentioned it. Next time.

Not had anything but the occasional chicken for aaaages.
