Youth in a bottle

Whenever I open and smell a bottle of a certain perfume, it literally takes me back in time and it's like I could close my eyes and be 17 again. For me it's Dior Pure Poison, it's the closest thing to a time machine I've ever found!

I'm curious to know what perfume that is for other people and what feelings or things it takes you back to?

For me, it's a feeling of excitement, like I'm just venturing out into the big wide world for the first time, ready to take it on. First romance and I can still feel those butterflies. Going clubbing and the buzz I felt. It's the confident, fearless, spontaneous person who I wish I could be again.

I have just ordered a bottle on eBay, I need to smell it again!!

KOKOagainandagain · 09/11/2020 15:50

Nahema by Geurlain. I used to love it. Reminds me of the anticipation of wonderful experiences. Much better than the actual experiences!

But mostly I am transported by aftershave (like Kouros) - tipsy end of evening snog sensations are forever twinned. Mind you I used to love the taste of kissing a smoker so I think that I had positive associations of any smell or taste of anyone I really fancied.

New West, Paloma Picasso, Dune, Ysatis

Exclamation here too. From the age of about 14. Then at about 17 my first proper bf bought me YSL Paris. I felt so grown up Blush

Ideasplease322 · 09/11/2020 17:10

@FloydWasACat

Sheknowsaboutme yes to Exclamation!! "Make a statement, without saying a word", I thought that was so cool.
What a memory 😊

I am tempted to buy a bottle, but I have just done a clear out and thrown out lots of nearly full bottles of perfume that people have bought me over the years. I don’t even remember if I liked the smell of exclamation, it was more the bottle! I was about 12 though.

FloydWasACat · 10/11/2020 07:29

Ideasplease322 neither can I! That's why I ordered one, I am quite excited about the memories it will bring back when I sniff it. Love the link, btw

That advert is fantastic!!!

nevermorelenore · 10/11/2020 07:47

Joop for men reminds me of a horrible ex boyfriend. I hate smelling it, since the kind of men who wear it always bathe in the stuff. Ruined a nice dinner for me!

Tommy Girl reminds me of the early 00s and dodgy nightclubs. The real teenage fragrance for me is those Impulse sprays. They still sell them in Tesco and they still have that overpoweringly sweet smell. I used to like the vanilla one and the lime green one that was kind of fruity.

DK123 · 11/11/2020 12:29

@nevermorelenore Joop reminds me of a creepy ex who used to practically bathe in the stuff. Every time I catch a whiff of it I think of him and feel sick. I hope his name didn't begin with J 😂 I'm sure there are lots of them out there as it's a very popular perfume

BloomedAgain · 11/11/2020 14:15

I had a Joop ex! Quite unhinged.

plumspice · 11/11/2020 14:19

I guess for me its bodyshop strawberry oil. I actually didn't wear a lot of perfume as a teen. I got gifts of anisanis etc but was never that keen. I realized years later I don't really like floral scents but prefer fruity and oriental scents. I was mid 20s before I worked this out ams I wear the same scents today as I did then. I did like and wear strawberry oil when I was 13 or 14 though.

Scoleah · 11/11/2020 14:21

For me it's Pur blanca from Avon, or DKNY

Seriously79 · 11/11/2020 14:30

Nina Ricci - Premier Jour, I'd just got married and moved away, always reminds me of my first feelings of independence and adulthood.

Also, Calvin Kline Deep Europhia, but I couldn't possible tell you what it reminds me of 😉 or who 😂

peridito · 11/11/2020 17:44

@Fozzleyplum oh I had forgotten Blue Grass !!

Opium ! Was involved in sacking someone ( residential position so tied accommodation which made it all worse ) .Was all awful as we gradually realised extent of misconduct which involved stealing money ,faked bank accounts .One visit involved production and counting out of cash ,I was beside myself .Had indulged in a quick swig of Dutch Courage and then liberal application of Opium to disguise any lingering aroma !

BloomedAgain · 13/11/2020 10:05

Ha! No mine was M.

justilou1 · 13/11/2020 10:47

I had a giant bottle of Poison EDP with a stopper lid. God, I loved that stuff! Smelled like jasmine when the sun hits it’s petals first thing in the morning and the scent is released into the air all at once. Of course I loved it until I was moving house and it fell off my car seat onto the floor. It was the middle of summer and that car was unbearable after that! (Was like a bordello!)
Meanwhile, I love Christian Lacroix edp in the blown glass seashell bottle. Ghosts of a long, lost love affair.
Trussardi Skin - WHY did they have to discontinue that one? It was my absolute favourite!!! I had people of both sexes stopping me in the street and in crowded places to ask what I was wearing all the time.
I wore Gucci Rush on my wedding day. It’s been reformulated and smells like fly spray now.
The Joop men thing is hilarious. I had a conversation with a waitress about it a couple of days ago. We both wrinkled our noses at someone walking past who was wearing it, and we both knew it by name as well. Me because of a dodgy ex boyfriend and her because of her dodgy stepfather. We came to the conclusion that a certain type of scumbag wears Joop, too!

Frenchlady14 · 13/11/2020 12:54

Moonwind when was at school - my mum was an Avon lady.
Patchouli Oil and sandalwood soap in the 70s.
Rive Gauche for Work.
Opium for going out and cold Winter evenings - fluffy jumpers and boots.
O de Lancome for Summer.
For the last ten years Narciso for Her EDP and P.
L'amour by Coty reminds me of my mum getting ready to go out and spitting in her mascara little blue box with the cloggy brush and having kiss curls on the side of her face after taking the hair clips off. Then a spray of Coty which mixed with hairspray and cigarette smoke. I used to watch her getting ready and though it was soo sophisticated :)

mamaduckbone · 15/11/2020 16:38

I've remembered the one that my mum wore - Coty L'aiment. You can still buy it.

Marbles321 · 15/11/2020 17:05

Gucci Envy, also now discontinued. Loved it!

Thebeginning10 · 15/11/2020 17:31

@DC3Dakota

Belles De Ricci!!!! It transports me back to being 12/13 again! I recently paid £50 for a surviving 100ml bottle of Eau De Parfum on eBay and it's perfect! I just love it. I'd do anything for them to bring it back
I love this perfume. I have the tiniest bit left in my one remaining bottle, but it smells a bit cinnamonny.

Used to by it from Alders.

southern82 · 15/11/2020 17:48

Joop for men reminds me of my first serious boyfriend.
YSL Babydoll reminds me of a time when I was carefree and happy.
Lou lou reminds me of my mum

LadyCatStark · 15/11/2020 19:18

@FromEden

Body Shop vanilla, ananya and dewberry. Oh and white musk! Exclamation Eau So....? inspired Impulse spray in a lime green can - think it was called 02?

We must be around the same age, I literally logged in to say those exact ones. Especially the impulse. I can still smell it if I close my eyes. I would love to get my hands on a can lol

Another vote for these exact smells. Some of you had very fancy youths 😂.
