Youth in a bottle

Whenever I open and smell a bottle of a certain perfume, it literally takes me back in time and it's like I could close my eyes and be 17 again. For me it's Dior Pure Poison, it's the closest thing to a time machine I've ever found!

I'm curious to know what perfume that is for other people and what feelings or things it takes you back to?

For me, it's a feeling of excitement, like I'm just venturing out into the big wide world for the first time, ready to take it on. First romance and I can still feel those butterflies. Going clubbing and the buzz I felt. It's the confident, fearless, spontaneous person who I wish I could be again.

@EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide

Agree with Dewberry, Loulou and Kouros. But my ultimate time machine smell is Acqua di Gio (might not be spelt right!)
I was just coming on to say Loulou, then I saw Acqua De Gio. Wow, such memories. 🤗

Exclamation and Tribe were the first perfumes I had. I can't remember what either of them smelt of now, but I'd love a sniff.

My Body Shop favourite was Vanilla. It actually smelled like custard though.

BloomedAgain · 08/11/2020 17:17

Gucci Envy!

52andblue · 08/11/2020 17:28

Miss Dior.
Takes me back to Mayfair, 1988, when I met the love of my life.
We are not together now. I cannot smell it without getting emotional.

Old Spice. My kind Grandfather who died when I was 5. Ditto.

Body Shop White Musk is happier times. 6th form etc.

TinkersRucksack · 08/11/2020 17:29

Lou Lou!!! Had a bottle in my bedroom, a bottle in my car, a bottle in my school bag. I must have been followed about by a fog, I was drenched in it.

Sheknowsaboutme · 08/11/2020 17:30

Exclamation. Oh my favourite when i was a teen.

DanielODonkey · 08/11/2020 17:32

Tommy Girl by Tommy Hilfiger

Reminds me of a very specific weekend when I was 18. I think I slept around 8 hours between the Thursday evening and Monday morning, and got up to a lot of mischief.

And hamlet cigars takes me back to being 16. I was quite an affected 16 year old... Grin

S111n20 · 08/11/2020 17:33

Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue. Takes me back to when me my parents took me and a friend to Gran Canaria at 15.

S111n20 · 08/11/2020 17:33

When my parents 🤭

NancyPickford · 08/11/2020 17:34

Very earliest was Aqua Manda, then Shalimar by Guerlain, Miss Dior, Loulou, No5, Opium, Cinnabar and finally Allure by Chanel which is still my favourite.
I tested some Shalimar in a department store just for old times sake and it smelled like American Cream Soda, a bit too sweet for me nowadays.
I have a nostalgic like for Old Spice because a teacher I had a crush on used to wear it.

Venicelover · 08/11/2020 17:38

Rive Gauche, reminds me of my teenage years.

Fifilafrog · 08/11/2020 17:41

Gio (not aqua di gio), sadly discontinued, and amarige for me! And Fahrenheit aftershave!

Spied · 08/11/2020 17:42

I'd like to be transported to my mid-teens with the scent of Monsoon wild lagoon, Ocean Dream and Body Shop Ananya but sadly I have to rely on memory as these scents are discontinued..
I am however currently using a bottle of Chopard Wish which transports me to the early noughties, living in a city, studying at Uni and feeling very grown-up. For some reason it reminds me of walking through the city in the snow on a dark night on the way to the pub. I feel sophisticated and like my life was about to begin.

AriesTheRam · 08/11/2020 17:42

For me it would definitely be Gio by Armani but its been discontinued

BombyliusMajor · 08/11/2020 17:58

@PajamasnoDramasnis Very Valentino discontinued?? Nooooo! I loved that. Also the smell of my 20s alongside Crystalle.

diplodocusinermine · 08/11/2020 18:04

Loulou, Opium and Gianfranco Ferre - all remind me of mid - late teens and early twenties spending hours with friends getting ready for a night out. Happy days - the getting ready was often better than the actual night out!

PepsiLola · 08/11/2020 18:10

Jlo glow. My first bf bought for me at every occasion, thinking about 2003-4.

Prior to that, i had a Hugo boss perfume my mum had given me that she didn't like.
Cause it was an expensive perfume, i adored it!

Lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 08/11/2020 18:11

Great thread.. I feel like certain perfume/ smells followed me through the years

First (like so many others) GCSEs: white musk and Lou Lou
Then A levels : Eternity
All the way through university : Fendi

Any of these smells would immediately transport me back to the respective era.

PaperMonster · 08/11/2020 18:12

Obsession - which my boyfriend always used to wear!

GnomeOrMistAndIceGuy · 08/11/2020 18:14

One of the So...? range...Mysterious was it? It a teal/greeny colour box and bottle. Loved it.
Also when I got a bit older, that beautiful Armani She/Elle which I think has been discontinued now. I would pay an arm and leg for a bottle of that :(

grafittiartist · 08/11/2020 18:15

Eden!
Still have a bottle.

And yes to white musk- happy days!!
