Youth in a bottle

Whenever I open and smell a bottle of a certain perfume, it literally takes me back in time and it's like I could close my eyes and be 17 again. For me it's Dior Pure Poison, it's the closest thing to a time machine I've ever found!

I'm curious to know what perfume that is for other people and what feelings or things it takes you back to?

For me, it's a feeling of excitement, like I'm just venturing out into the big wide world for the first time, ready to take it on. First romance and I can still feel those butterflies. Going clubbing and the buzz I felt. It's the confident, fearless, spontaneous person who I wish I could be again.

@S111n20 mine is D&G Light Blue too, takes me back to being 17 and the time I was with my first boyfriend. I actually still like the smell it's fresh and clean but I think I'd feel too weird wearing it.

formerbabe · 08/11/2020 18:17

Versace red jeans...I used to empty a bottle over myself when I first met mrformer...might actually see if I can get myself a bottle again Grin

Baileyscoffeeandcampfires · 08/11/2020 18:24

Exclamation for me . I still have an almost empty bottle upstairs and just a sniff send me back to being 16 and going ice skating with now DH. It brings back that bubbly feeling of being in love for the first time .

Also ck one which Dh wore and takes me back to being driven home in his soft top Jimmy jeep for my midnight curfew

Dewberry for me as well - still have a bottle with a tiny bit in it - I don't use it but have a nostalgic sniff every now & then. A time when we were young & gorgeous!

S111n20 · 08/11/2020 18:37

@Pepperwand I’ve just ordered some. I’m now 32 😂 yes it’s very fresh smelling.

WitchesSpelleas · 08/11/2020 18:42

Panache - used to wear it when I was about 14.

The Impulse body spray that was in a light purple can in the late 80s.

Cleaning fluid for gas permeable contact lenses which I wore from the age of about 16 into my early 20s.

LER83 · 08/11/2020 18:44

Nina Ricci Les Belles! Takes me back to being on holiday in Spain as a teenager. I loved that perfume! Have found that a Next perfume smells similar so stock up on that! Then after that it was Gucci Envy! Not forgetting all the so... body sprays!

Ideasplease322 · 08/11/2020 18:46

Oh my goodness, I had forgotten about exclamation!

I thought I was so grownup - loved the bottle too. Just googled and they still sell it! £6.50. I remember thinking it was so expensive😂

Newuser123123 · 08/11/2020 18:47

Ckone and ghost

NorbertMeubles · 08/11/2020 18:50

Eternity by Calvin Klein

justgeton · 08/11/2020 18:52

No 17 and Miss Dior

There was also one of Miss Selfridge own that I loved but can't remember its name

FrankiesKnuckle · 08/11/2020 18:57

Eden and davidoff cool water.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 08/11/2020 18:58

Fiorucci by Fiorucci - I think it was a 2002 (?) reissue and I wore it loads through my teens.

Vivienne Westwood Boudoir - another one from my later teens. i had a gift set that I eeked out for as long as possible. It came with a scented hair mist and a scented nail polish. I remember finishing the nail polish when I was 21.

My first serious boyfriend used to buy me Coco by Chanel. I still have an ancient bottle, and now I can't wear it because it remind me of him...but it's so evocative of my very early 20s that I can't bear to throw it away :(

Thelikelylass · 08/11/2020 19:07

Cinnebar - my mother when I was 13.
Mum roll on - lemon, age 12
Poison age 19
Paloma Picasso, YSL Paris aged 23...and YSL Jazz - that last smell was my best lover ever...mmmm

fussychica · 08/11/2020 19:18

Aqua Manda from my teens, Ma Griffe from late teens and into my 20s. Van Cleef when I had more money to spend!

EloiseTheFirst · 08/11/2020 19:19

Gloria Vanderbilt

I bought it duty free when I flew aged 16 with my friend (same age) to visit family in USA. We travelled alone and thought we were very sophisticated and the fragrance just added to our "air of sophistication"

Grin

I've just googled it. You can still buy it. The packaging looks the same and it's only £7!

I'm tempted to buy some ...

Exclamation and Gucci rush

potter5 · 08/11/2020 19:22

Je Suis - late 1970's. Loved it!

mamaduckbone · 08/11/2020 19:27

Lou Lou - the first 'proper' perfume I ever wore, probably aged about 14/15.
L'air de temps reminds me of my sister at the same age, and there's one that came in very pink packaging that my mum wore but I can't remember the name.

Whattheactual2020 · 08/11/2020 19:33

Ooh, nice post 💓
I’d say Poison also, that was my first ‘Grown up’ perfume as a gift at around 12. Haven’t smelt it for years irl, but can smell it in my head!
‘Paris’ by Ysl reminds me of being abroad aged 12 and my first kiss.
White musk from The Body shop of course 😂
An Impulse spray in a green/blue bottle reminds me of summer at 16/17.
Mid 20’s was all Jean Paul Gaultier-the body one and Issy myaki (definitely spelt wrong!) reminds me of many years travelling and lovely summers.

tengingers · 08/11/2020 19:35

Gucci Rush! I can smell it in my mind now and not had it for decades!

MustardMitt · 08/11/2020 19:36

@DC3Dakota

Belles De Ricci!!!! It transports me back to being 12/13 again! I recently paid £50 for a surviving 100ml bottle of Eau De Parfum on eBay and it's perfect! I just love it. I'd do anything for them to bring it back
I had this too! Loved it.

For me, it's the original Jean Paul Gaultier (I think) aftershave. It might be CK One, or something similar from that late 90s era. My first boyfriend used to wear it, gave me the fanny gallops every time I got a whiff Grin. Every so often someone will walk past me at work or out and I'll smell it again and it takes me right back.

YSL Rive Gauche reminds me of my mum, it's her signature scent.

MrsJBaptiste · 08/11/2020 19:41

Exclamation reminds me of when I was 14/15 😀
Escape was my first girls' holiday to Tenerife 😎
Jazz / L'Egoiste were aftershaves boyfriends wore that I loved ❤

Lou Lou was the perfume my mum wore on special occasions and it was bloody strong! 🤤

Lobsterquadrille2 · 08/11/2020 20:01

Definitely LouLou throughout university (87 to 90). I think the male equivalent was Kouros.

Drawmelikeoneofyourfrenchgirls · 08/11/2020 20:04

Noa and Ralph Lauren Romance. Also white musk from the body shop. And the Versace ones you used to get in the tins! The pink one! And CK1 the unisex one, I remember everyone used to wear it
