Youth in a bottle

Whenever I open and smell a bottle of a certain perfume, it literally takes me back in time and it's like I could close my eyes and be 17 again. For me it's Dior Pure Poison, it's the closest thing to a time machine I've ever found!

I'm curious to know what perfume that is for other people and what feelings or things it takes you back to?

For me, it's a feeling of excitement, like I'm just venturing out into the big wide world for the first time, ready to take it on. First romance and I can still feel those butterflies. Going clubbing and the buzz I felt. It's the confident, fearless, spontaneous person who I wish I could be again.

Oh this is making me sad. I would say body shop white musk.

AgnesNaismith · 08/11/2020 20:08

Yves Saint Laurent- In Love Again

They’ve brought it back in a heritage collection....for around 5 times the original price 🙄 I had to buy it!!

Twigletgirl27 · 08/11/2020 20:08

Definitely O de Lancôme. My best friend and I went to Ibiza with my parents aged 15. We both bought this on the plane and felt so sophisticated! I didn't realise you could still get this until recently but much as I still love fresh citrusy perfumes this was just too lemony! Happy memories though...

Poison (the original really strong one) will always remind me of my mum getting ready to go out when I was very young. I remember her sitting at her dressing table wearing a burgundy velvet dress with big shoulder pads. No prizes for guessing the era!

YSL Paris. And Nina Ricci Rive Gauche. Both of them for different occasions for 40 years.

Delatron · 08/11/2020 21:10

Exclamation when I was about 15 and also Lou Lou.

Amarige by Givenchy reminds me of my first holidays in my late teens, drinking Malibu and coke.

Later on at Uni in France I wore Angel. Then so did everyone else!

wishywashywoowoo70 · 08/11/2020 22:10

I used to love LouLou Blue
Vanderbilt
Poison cos I was a rock chick
Body shop dewberry and who can fidget Patchouli I used to cover my bedroom in that stuff. BS is so expensive now though you're better off getting a proper fine fragrance

Badabingbadabum · 08/11/2020 22:29

I chose a bottle of Calvin Klein Contradiction for christmas when shopping with my mum when I was 15. It reminds me of first boyfriends, more freedom, going out with friends. They stopped selling it for years but it's back and I adore the smell.

Christmas shopping in winter just as it gets dark really does have a smell, as a pp mentioned. Its a smell I will miss this year, even though I do nearly all christmas shopping online and have for years. I hope that I will be able to visit a lot more shops when we can again. Wafting about in my contradiction!

Eternity Calvin Klein

Takes me straight back to the early 90s Grin

Blibbyblobby · 08/11/2020 22:46

Salvador Dali. I thought I was soooo bohemian!

seizethecuttlefish · 08/11/2020 22:49

I loved Very Valentino. I bought tons of it before they discontinued it. Sadly all gone now.

Body shop vanilla for me or Elizabeth Arden, Red Door. I thought I was so sophisticated.

andannabegins · 08/11/2020 22:53

CKone. Reminds me of my first boyfriend. Ahh happy shagging days

@DC3Dakota

Belles De Ricci!!!! It transports me back to being 12/13 again! I recently paid £50 for a surviving 100ml bottle of Eau De Parfum on eBay and it's perfect! I just love it. I'd do anything for them to bring it back
Snap - I kept a half full bottle for years, just to sniff and be transported through time, but chucked it in a mad clear out moment and forever regret it.
BritInAus · 08/11/2020 23:02

Body Shop vanilla, ananya and dewberry. Oh and white musk!
Exclamation Eau
So....? inspired
Impulse spray in a lime green can - think it was called 02?

I came on to say this!!!

FWIW, the closest one I have found is Hedonist Cassis by Viktoria Minya.

For me it's the Victoria secret body sprays. I used to drench myself in theese in school me and my sister would go shopping all the time to get more and I'd allways spray the purple one when I'd go meet my boyfriend 5 years ago before we were going out 😂 happy times now life's shet

YukoandHiro · 09/11/2020 05:28

That Angel perfume in a star shaped bottle takes me right back to university. My housemate at the time wore it, and one sniff transports me to getting ready for our boozy nights out at rock clubs in Manchester. If I smell it, it makes me really miss her too. She's since moved to and established her life in Australia and I've only seen her three times in the last 10 years. She was supposed to be visiting and meeting my daughters this Winter but now bloody covid has put an end to that

YukoandHiro · 09/11/2020 05:30

Oh and CKBe - the boy we all fancied in sixth form wore it.

We must be around the same age, I literally logged in to say those exact ones. Especially the impulse. I can still smell it if I close my eyes. I would love to get my hands on a can lol

justgeton · 09/11/2020 06:06

L'Air du Temps...

How could I forget that... looking back was a bit 'old lady' for a 20 yr old maybe

NotInGuatemalaNowDrRopata · 09/11/2020 06:09

Colours by (or of) Bennetton.

Fozzleyplum · 09/11/2020 06:22

6th form/university - Anais Anais and Blue Grass
Training in London/overseas - Eau de Givenchy in the Summer and Cinnabar in the Winter. I also wore Jicky by Guerlain.
Mid 20s - Ralph Lauren Safari

I still have and wear all of these.

DC3Dakota · 09/11/2020 13:15

@LER83

Nina Ricci Les Belles! Takes me back to being on holiday in Spain as a teenager. I loved that perfume! Have found that a Next perfume smells similar so stock up on that! Then after that it was Gucci Envy! Not forgetting all the so... body sprays!
This one??? Which NEXT one smells similar please? 🙏🏻

DC3Dakota · 09/11/2020 13:18

As well as Belles De Ricci, I'd say that So...Wild! holds many memories for me, as did Impulse Spice Girls! Both also discontinued :(

FloydWasACat · 09/11/2020 15:39

Sheknowsaboutme yes to Exclamation!! "Make a statement, without saying a word", I thought that was so cool.
