This has probably been done before, but a group chat of mine was talking about this earlier and I didn't know what to say!

What would you say?

OP posts:
BeBraveAndBeKind · 05/11/2020 20:24

I would tell myself to have confidence and belief in myself and that I don't need my mother's validation. I'd add "she will tell you that she's proud of you but it will take another 27 years".

SpookyNoise · 05/11/2020 20:27

I would tell myself that nothing is going to work out and to give up now.

Pinkfluffyunicornsdancing · 05/11/2020 20:28

You'll never guess what's gonna happen in 20 years time! The whole world will pretty much shut down for a while so make the most of your freedom to see friends, family, go to the pub, music festivals and travel.

IceniWarrior · 05/11/2020 20:30

Don't drink alcohol. Not that I'm an alcoholic, but I made bad choices.

Hotelhelp · 05/11/2020 20:31

I think I’d tell myself that I didn’t need to settle for who I settled for because my confidence was so low that I clung onto anyone who showed me interest.

Hm2020 · 05/11/2020 20:39

I’d say the Ltb don’t waste the best years of your life living like a 1950s house wife with a controlling addict...

PicsInRed · 05/11/2020 20:44

Avoid arrogant, bitchy men at all costs. Even if they're funny especially if they're funny.

StealthPolarBear · 05/11/2020 20:45

When you think you have the flu go to A&E as it's meningitis

RuthW · 05/11/2020 20:46

Never rely on anyone else financially and always be able to support yourself.

Lay off the fake tan

Holothane · 05/11/2020 20:49

Do not go on that holiday save the money instead move out when they are away.

PapsofJura · 05/11/2020 20:50

Your not fat.

AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/11/2020 20:50

Run.

TeddyBeans · 05/11/2020 20:52

Don't sweat it, it all comes good in the end

Spreadingchestnut · 05/11/2020 20:52

As rudimentary as it sounds, try to always steer and row your own boat, rather than be a leaf swept along by the current.

RaraRachael · 05/11/2020 20:53

I would tell myself to go for it and do what I want to do with my life.
Don't be ruled by an overbearing mother trying to live out her failed dreams through you.

hopeishere · 05/11/2020 20:54

@IceniWarrior me too. Again not an alcoholic but just made bad choices.

Also work harder at school.

Spreadingchestnut · 05/11/2020 20:54

You don't need "permission".

Whatsyouremergency · 05/11/2020 20:55

Go. Home.

BonnesVacances · 05/11/2020 20:56

Don't go for guys like your dad.

And

It's really not normal for families to treat each other that way.

BeautifulWar · 05/11/2020 20:57

You don't need to try so hard.

thistimelastweek · 05/11/2020 20:58

You were not fat and your mum isn't always right

OrangeBananaFish · 05/11/2020 20:59

Don't go to Uni, travel instead.
Take up running now while you might still have a chance to the London marathon one day (I wouldn't believe that though)

Temporary1234 · 05/11/2020 21:01

Well done for your choice of friends. Hold on tight and don’t believe in “blood is thicker than water”.

DONT kill them with kindness!
