ADs won't tut when you're stuck in a rut, we're all too busy pouring Amaretto in our porridge

Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

It might be lockdown (and DH's birthday!)but we're still here!

JamSarnie · 05/11/2020 11:35

Non socially distanced hugs for everyone struggling.

It's shit Sad

110APiccadilly · 05/11/2020 11:37

Flowers for everyone who is finding it hard.

I've seen some of the older people at church noticeably declining (when I've seen them over Zoom, or met them in town or whatever - we still don't have services). People who you knew were old, but never looked it, suddenly looking their age. It's tragic.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/11/2020 11:42

And my unfriend button is going at it again......

Anyone else feeling sick at the thought of long-term school closures again? I have a bad feeling I can't shake off.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/11/2020 11:51

"When this is one of yours"
Id sooner no doctor stuffed my loved ones with helium and pissed around with them like a giant balloon.

Is that not whats happening there?

WouldBeGood · 05/11/2020 11:52

Are you allowed to get the undertaker to do that...? That will solve my roots problem!

Yes Sad terrified of it to be honest
WouldBeGood · 05/11/2020 11:53

@LivinLaVidaLoki, you say that but a giant helium my dad would be quite amusing

Oooo didn't think of that. I'll phone the co op down the road.
WouldBeGood · 05/11/2020 11:55

Though they might be too busy doing squeaky voices from the helium people

bakingcupcakes · 05/11/2020 11:55

@SirSamuelVimes There's nothing wrong with going back on anti- depressants if you need them. If you were diabetic or something you wouldn't think twice about accepting medication for that. Hope you're feeling better as the day goes on. This whole situation is awful for mental health.

I am. If I think about it too much it gets me upset. I'm terrified it'll cost me my job if it happens again. I couldn't work for 5 months last time and I'm so happy to be back at work.
GarlandaChynoweth · 05/11/2020 12:08

I'm very lucky as my work was very flexible and understanding in the first lockdown, although the juggling was hard, but the impact on my kids' mental health especially DS1(9) freaks me out, plus DD started reception in September and has settled so well. We could manage probably if they went part-time as my work is part-time, but appreciate not the case for so many.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/11/2020 12:08

Took a walk this morning, the council have blocked off the benches again.
Didn't think we were doing that this time round.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 05/11/2020 12:10

www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-54816419 They seem to be talking about mask wearing in secondary schools more - but I don't see anywhere they're talking about closing schools.

I think they'll try really hard not to do that - and at worse I expect they'd try the Welsh model of Y9 and above learning from home.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 05/11/2020 12:11

Most things have been normal in this firebreak lockdown near us- traffic about the same shops that are open about as busy.

wanderings · 05/11/2020 12:11

The thread about The Range (in the dreaded CV topic) is funny: and most of the replies are on our side.

They’re not meant to

GarlandaChynoweth · 05/11/2020 12:19

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath I do hope that's the case, although feel for those with exams looming.

BogRollBOGOF · 05/11/2020 12:22

Just the thought of one of my two having to do a fortnight of home learning strikes terror into my core.

Video physio this morning... she coped very well with talking to DS1's backside as he rolled around with his feet by his head.
He's much more sensible in a proper setting. If he's at home, he's in home mode.

Not to mention the cabin fever if we're feeling healthy... he's not a Joe Wicks type...

The spirit floating up to the ceiling makes me think of scraping DS2 off the ceiling every blooming evening Grin
Although last night I got back from the supermarket at 9:45pm, DH was zonked out, and the DCs bounced downstairs to help me put it all away!

I've just been down to uni (picking up a parking permit - on my mental health grounds). Absolute ghost town and the signage is unbelievable - huge signs on the library to "MASK UP NOW"

I followed some yellow arrows and got stuck in a dead end - the cleaner was pissing himself laughing at me. I was laughing as well to be honest about how ridiculous it was.

GarlandaChynoweth · 05/11/2020 12:23

I'm hoping worst case scenario we could form a childcare bubble with friends if needed, I'm pleased that will be 'allowed' this time.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/11/2020 12:32

This just been copied from local paper;

"Care homes across [.] are being asked if they would be willing to accept Covid-positive patients being discharged from hospital – and segregate them from the rest of their residents"

That worked really well last time didn't it.
