Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.
@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath I do hope that's the case, although feel for those with exams looming.
We're waiting to hear what Wales are going to do about exams - think it's likely they'll be making other arrangments.

I think Englands going to have to admit they need to make changes. On the news in hard hit northern areas there were Y11 and Y13 students who'd lost loads of time due to postive in their year tests even if exams went ahead hard to see how you can argue a level playing field. It's just how late they leave it to actually admit that.

BogRollBOGOF · 05/11/2020 12:41

I'd rather they'd have straight up gone for teacher assessment at the start of the year. Better than being messed around on an uneven playing field.

Our range has got an Iceland in it! So I think fair enough. And pet supplies!

*I was postingbon a thread about children and extra curriculars last night... basically primary age children who are too young to be out independently have no right to maintain a face to face relationship beyond their household.

DH could meet a mate in the park and have a kickabout.
My 7 yo can't, even with a classmate that he's been breathing over for 30 hours in a pokey classroom. (And he might have a sibling, but 9yo has less interest in football than a nail board)
How fucked up is that.
I'm glad it's been clarified that pre-schoolers are exempt. But really all dependent children that can not be left unsupervised should be legally able to meet someone like the rest of the population.*

just back from Waitrose as I had a voucher to spend

don't normally shop there so I don't know how dementory they are, but no security or queues or anything.

Totally agree...my DC are going to have to meet with their friends from our street to play out in groups of two. FFS. Although better than last time when we kept them apart for 11 weeks before giving up and letting them play out and turning a blind eye to that fact that kids don't (and shouldn't) socially distance.

Hello all. I've spoken to the gp, got a prescription waiting for me at the chemists. Also filled in the self referral thingy he sent me for some therapy. DH told his work he needs the rest of the day off so I had a bath and went to bed for a bit. Going to let him do the afternoon school run and go pick up my pills. Day one of being back on citalopram tomorrow. Sigh. Thanks for all the supportive messages.

TheOrchidKiller · 05/11/2020 14:08

@LivinLaVidaLoki
If they're going to post overly dramatic stuff with swear words they could at least spell "fukin" correctly.

@GarlandaChynoweth what a weird cartoon. Why are 3 gnomes in slippers faffing about in a hospital?

I dread more homeschooling for the older years. DS is 17, he doesn't need us to supervise, luckily. But he's really losing motivation, & is angry that they still don't know what's happening with exams or assessment. There's an assumption that older children can all self-study but lots find it hard (DD couldn't do it at all). Read a post on MN the other day which advocated self-study for A level students because, "they can get those Letts revision guides." Hmm

I also started reading The Don't Go To The Range thread. Luckily someone had started a thread in chat about some kittens they'd found, which neutralised the dementoring.

TheOrchidKiller · 05/11/2020 14:11

Glad you got help.

Took a walk this morning, the council have blocked off the benches again. Didn't think we were doing that this time round.
They tried shutting off benches public footpaths, beaches in Wales this time around not government but local councils, folk ignored it completely, moving barriers, ripping off tape. Its the council stazi not the government.

"Care homes across [.] are being asked if they would be willing to accept Covid-positive patients being discharged from hospital – and segregate them from the rest of their residents"

I know of care home managers who have battled against this for months. I know many of them quarantine new residents for 2 weeks anyway, which is miserable for the residents but at least keeps cases lower. New admissions have to have a negative test prior to coming though.

The problem with accepting positive cases is that there are often so few staff in a care home, it would be difficult to keep them working in "clean" & "dirty" areas like they are in hospitals. PPE in care homes is often just a mask & gloves. Infection would be more likely to spread.

I'm sure though that if there is a cash incentive there will be uptake from some....

I agree a Letts revision guide would be useless for DD1 and probably DS - and they are better off in school I think but this last week hasn't been terrible their teachers and school have considerably upped their games since last year - requiring them to sign in every lesson and providing better teaching material and more interactive sites to use.

However I am really hoping this disruption is over this school year and doesn't continue into DS starting GCSE and DD1 As levels.

I had to have meds. on and off post natally, three kids, I find these days post menopause my lack of hormones a blessing. Take the pills, do what you can self help wise and hope therapy gets going again.

Covid-19: Merthyr Tydfil now worst in UK for case rates

That's not good coming to end of a firebreak lockdown - though our area isn't doing that bad.

MercyBooth · 05/11/2020 14:57

DB who has been working as a senior caster for the same company for nearly 24 years has just been told its 3 weeks furlough, then likely redundancy.

FUCK THE TORIES

Orangeblossom7777 · 05/11/2020 15:04

Wales is looking a bit worrying considering he said he's just letting them out again..Confused I find their approach a bit strange, at times (but then rest not much better)

I'm on anti-ds too, with swimming it helps.

Git a very annoying email from the school about complicated uniform arrangements - different for each year group (some can change for PE and others not). And that if they don't comply they get punishments like detention, things like hoodies confiscated

Bit much when they are also saying keep them warm. I've already spent loads on specific overtrousers and jumpers as well as the blazer. FFS

Mercy they have just extended the furlough thing to next April including those being made redundant, it said. Will that help?

It is heartbreaking, here in N Wales we had so many tourists yet our figures are low. Someone said that in Merthyr area people are more sociable lean on family more for child care so there is much more home mixing maybe leading to transmission.
