Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

@LivinLaVidaLoki that's appalling behaviour from the bakery. People of all ages need to go into shops together for various reasons.

@TabbyStar I think the gov expects you to live on fresh air, don't they? Sympathy for your DD too.

If I get myself organised I'm going for a walk with DD this afternoon. We both sat up very late watching the election last night. As the clock approached midnight it felt weird. I had an urge to rush out & go somewhere, but of course, everything now banned had already been shut for at least a couple of hours.

AcornAutumn · 05/11/2020 09:33

@countrygirl99

I have come to the conclusion that if Chris Whitty stood up and said we had to switch off the heating and wear shorts and t shirts this winter there would be a load of threads on MN moaning about people who questioned it. Very depressing thought.
Probably

Morning all Brew

My part of the world woke up to a thick fog, which seemed apt. Also my emails wouldn’t work and hey, I can’t go to the office Grin

I’ll browse MN till IT sort it. They’ve probably lost the will.

I like the idea of rebellious OAPs hanging out in the garden centre together.

Re the supermarket, I think it’s obvious that mum needs help as she’s 82 and frail but I think with everyone masked up, and she dyes her hair, they don’t see it till she says it.

Reminds me of being at primary school when a kid got told off for going through with a silly dare such as stabbing themself with a drawing pin, or throwing a PE beanbag on the roof.

The teacher would always ask them why they did it, & if the response was, " because So-&-so told me to," the teacher always gave the same reply.
"If So-&-so told you to jump off a cliff/run out into a busy road, you'd do it, would you?!"

"No, miss."

DominaShantotto · 05/11/2020 09:40

Good morning.

Mum had a fall yesterday - she's bruised but OK but she's really aged terrifyingly since lockdown started - loads of medical appointments cancelled too.

Tesco this morning didn't have any aisles coned off incidentally.

bakingcupcakes · 05/11/2020 09:41

Thanks Marsh I do feel better about it now I know we didn't have a choice. I still wish I'd declined the vaccine though!

We get regular power cuts where I am. I've never lived anywhere with amenities that are so unreliable. If it's not the electric it's the water and don't even get me started on the broadband!

110APiccadilly · 05/11/2020 09:50

I haven't noticed any difference in traffic here since the start of the Welsh lockdown. Unlike March, when the roads were noticeably empty.

TabbyStar · 05/11/2020 09:51

Thanks Orchid, it's so frustrating that I've always provided for myself and done all the "right" things setting up a business as a lone parent with no real parenting support so that I can continue in my career, look after DD and my DPs that I've now been abandoned by the Govt. The mental impacts are worse than the financial ones in many ways.

Also, As the clock approached midnight it felt weird. I had an urge to rush out & go somewhere

I spent an extra 10 mins reluctant to get out of the swimming pool yesterday as I knew it was the last time I'd be there for a while, completely irrational, it was really sad to leave the gym though.

Sorry about your DM Domina, keeping mobile is so important as we age and it's really worrying how people are going to lose mobility, fitness, flexibility and balance because of just not moving so much.

SirSamuelVimes · 05/11/2020 09:55

Traffic same through our little town until I got to school - very quiet. Car park half empty (usually rammed) and noticeably fewer people in the playground for drop off. Wondering if school will send a reminder about attendance out.

I'm struggling today. Thought I'd be alright but I am on the verge of tears at all times and just want to crawl into bed and stay there. Toddler DD is going to have a shit mum today.

SirSamuelVimes · 05/11/2020 09:58

Wrote that almost an hour ago but it only just posted. In the interim I have driven aimlessly around country roads (too fast probably) screaming along to Frank Turner's Heartless Bastard Motherfucker and crying my eyes out. Now I'm home and sat on the drive trying to make myself get me and DD out of the car. Don't want to go in the house.

TheOrchidKiller · 05/11/2020 10:02

@DominaShantotto hope your mum's ok.

@TabbyStar Yes, we do the right things only for it to get messed up & taken out of our control. I don't think people realise how little support is out there when people lose their jobs or get ill. There's a myth that the state looks after everyone, but it doesn't. There's also an assumption amongst a lot of comfortable, sheltered people that anyone without or job or in financial difficulty brought it on themselves. The truth is, anyone's secure world can come crashing down through no fault of their own.

But that doesn't mean we should all sit indoors constantly for the next 4 weeks, just in case. (Been lurking on the covid section, oh my!)

BogRollBOGOF · 05/11/2020 10:06

Traffic around schools would be pretty normal. Possibly higher if a significant number of pupils would normally go by bus and some parents now have the opportunity to drive them themselves.

A lot more businesses are staying open this time. They have Covid secure policies in place. Some shut rather hastily last time round.

@SirSamuelVimes
Go indoors, stick your toddler in front of the TV, go to the bathroom, run the taps or flush the toilet & sob into a towel or something. Punch a pillow if you need to.

Can you ring someone for a cry/chat?

Your toddler will be fine. Be nice to yourself today.

Blobby10 · 05/11/2020 10:14

@SirSamuelVimes thinking of you xx wish I could offer something which would help xxx

Part of the problem is DH is working from home so I'm kind of hiding from him too. He's lovely but he's a bit mystified by me & my emotional mess. I don't want to justify why I feel so shit to someone who, while not a D, doesn't see why I think it's a bit deal that we are throwing out freedoms on the bonfire.

I'm on the sofa. DD is sat next to me under a blanket and so far is being distracted by Netflix. I've just told the dog to fuck off because she was trying to sit on my legs (and pushed her off with my foot) so that's another thing to feel bad about. Got a cup of tea to soothe my throat where I shouted a bit too much in the car.

I've been off anti depressants since just after DD was born, almost two years, but I think I need to get back on them. Fuck.

TabbyStar · 05/11/2020 10:27

SirSamuel - Thanks This whole situation has retriggered mental health issues I thought I'd left behind years ago, it's shit. On the one hand your DH not getting it is difficult, but on the other living with someone who might be on a more even keel can help to stabilise those of us who otherwise might be all over the place! Just take it easy, it's not you, it's everything else!

SirSamuelVimes · 05/11/2020 10:36

DH came down to find me. Couldn't speak or I'd cry. He called the docs and I've spoken to / cried at the receptionist who has put me on the call back list.

Thanks for the responses lovely murderers.

Iheartmysmart · 05/11/2020 10:43

@SirSamuelVimes Sorry you’re feeling so low. I had post natal depression, DS is 18 now and this is the first time in all those years I feel that bad again. You’re not alone. Do what you need to do to look after yourself.

TheOrchidKiller · 05/11/2020 10:46

@SirSamuelVimes
I have a DH who sounds a bit like yours. Glad he called the doctor for you.
Keep snuggling under the blanket. The dog will forgive you.
Flowers

BogRollBOGOF · 05/11/2020 10:47

There's some days I wonder if I need something to bridge me through this shit.
The real problem is that there just isn't the opportunity to activate your normal emotional and hormonal range, and it's a long time now. People really shouldn't be glib about wasting a year of life. Life is precious.

Just had video physio for DS1. He wouldn't roll around on the floor with his bum in the air abd feet by his head in a real clinic. Swimming was reccommended... she did appreciate the iŕony of that...

I can take him to laned sessions as he's now old enough and can swim lengths, but it's a bit of a slap for DS2 who hasn't got practical access to family sessions and hasn't got the ability for formal swimming yet.

Forget Big Pharma conspiracies about vaccines, they'll be quids in on anti-depressants before the winter is out.

Domina "Mum had a fall yesterday - she's bruised but OK but she's really aged terrifyingly since lockdown started - loads of medical appointments cancelled too."

Ditto. And it means a lot to her to be out and about and see her friends. Alas, summer wasn't as useful as it could have been because many of her friends were terrified.

I'm so sorry for those feeling low. I've taken meds for years. I had to up the dose. I did about 5 weeks in the first lockdown on my usual dose but kept having fits of hysterical tears.

Group hug!

ISaySteadyOn · 05/11/2020 11:09

Flowers for everyone. We are all having legitimate reactions to a terrible incomprehensible situation. It is hard to have these feelings but they are real and logical.

I think we are allowed to be angry now. I am increasingly so.

Bollss · 05/11/2020 11:20

Flowers for everyone struggling.

I feel mega shit too. Just like another impending sense of dread just like last time. It's sickening.

Absolutely fed up. Hopeless. Deflated. Shite.

Iheartmysmart · 05/11/2020 11:22

Grrr the lockdown needs to be stricter and we shouldn’t be allowed out, well some of us anyway. Someone has rearranged the pub’s 2m stickers into a hopscotch. Obviously had to have a go and I’ve hurt my knee.
