Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

Last night's family dinner involved some rather phallic jumbo sausages...

Clearly I was not the only one who thought they looked amusingly phallic, because DS1 ended up asking questions about human biology. Upon hearing why a penis is shaped like it is, he stared at me and asked if I was joking or not and swiftly changed the topic back to gaming Grin

It's chicken kiev tonight... 😂

Women don't have to here either @MercyBooth

Reedwarbler · 04/11/2020 18:53

My fil (with severe alzheimers) has at last moved to a care home today (from hospital). On Friday I will be buying him a new dressing gown in Tesco, as his was stolen, yes, stolen, in hospital. If anyone challenges me I shall be a sweary ranty mad woman.
Meanwhile, can I please claim a prize for the most unobservant husband. I fancied a pink streak or two in my (white/grey/blonde) hair. As I wasn't sure I would like it, I decided to experiment first with hair chalk, so at least I can wash it out. Tried pink, like it a lot. H didn't notice. I have since added blue and yellow and look like an accident in a paint factory. Not a sausage from him. I have drawn the conclusion that, although he looks at me, he no longer sees me, which is sad. Otherwise he thinks I have gone mad (I have had a few meltdowns lately) and perhaps doesn't want to rock the boat.

Willow2017 · 04/11/2020 18:57

MercyBooth
That is horrific. How have we come to this in less than a year?

I keep reading/seeing accounts of how police are intimidating and threatening non mask wearers at shops too.

We are losing our rights at a frightening pace and people are welcoming it!
www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-8910535/Victory-French-pregnant-women-government-set-announce-masks-arent-mandatory-birth.html
xThank goodness for that it was barbaric. Mumsnet has gremlins again tonight I see.

NannyGythaOgg · 04/11/2020 19:14

@justasking111

Liverpool over 300 cases per 100k which they said was very bad.

Merthyr Tydfil over 700 cases per 100k that is just beyond my ken, what is going on in this part of Wales.

700 + tests per 100,000 people translates to

700
100,000

or 7 in 1,000 or about one person out of 143.
Many of those are in hospital or care homes
and of those in the community
most will have a mild to moderate illness.

I'm sure they quote the numbers per 100,000 to scare people making it seem worse than it is.

less than 1 in a 100 doesn't sound half so scary

MercyBooth · 04/11/2020 19:20

Ah i see @Marshyellow @Willow2017 Im more frightened of what is going on with that than i am of the virus.

Marshyellow · 04/11/2020 19:28

Although they have to wear masks in hospital, during labour it was clarified that it wasn't expected at all. I had to go into hospital with my DS just as mask wearing was made mandatory, thankfully they were reasonable, and although I had to wear one in the corridors etc, in the room DS was in I could take it off. On reflection I wonder if I should technically have put it back on when the doctor's and nurses came in, but it wasn't at the forefront of my mind and they didn't say anything. A nurse actually when I got there said please feel free to take it off if you feel more comfortable, which made it less awkward hah. Appreciate that's not the same everywhere, but it should be.

bakingcupcakes · 04/11/2020 19:32

I feel really down tonight. DS had the flu spray thing yesterday. Today school requested I collect him because of a high temperature (38.5). The call went to my parents who then phoned me at work (why school didn't call me at work I don't know) and I wasn't able to get through to school when I tried to ring back. They told my dad his temperature was 38.5 so I booked a test on my way to the car. Anyway school just handed him over really quickly and said nothing about the temperature. I checked at home and found no temperature but didn't have much option other than to go through with the test.

It then transpires that school told my dad DS probably didn't need a test because of the flu spray yesterday. I feel like such an idiot. I've lost us money now because I can't work until we get it back. I found it hard to do and don't think I did it properly so I think it's going to be inconclusive and we'll have to try and do another over the weekend. There's literally nothing wrong with him. I can't believe I was such a fool. I should have questioned it further before booking the test. I honestly feel like crying.

DominaShantotto · 04/11/2020 19:44

Just had an invite as one of the selected groups of students to pilot the new quick tests... nopes not me (more than anything else it would be a non-essential commute onto campus).

The overcrowding to buy Christmas gifts is going to be fucking bonkers come December now - especially if you can't pick up bits and bobs along with your shopping.

AcornAutumn · 04/11/2020 19:50

Crazy amounts of traffic being reported in London. I think people are trying to get Xmas shopping in maybe.

AcornAutumn · 04/11/2020 19:51

baking hugs to you. None of this is your fault 💐

BogRollBOGOF · 04/11/2020 19:57

Oh Baking, the system should be clearer about the flu spray (mine had theirs this week too) and there should be realistic flex in the system for these sorts of circumstances.

Willow2017 · 04/11/2020 20:08

baking its not your fault they dufnt tell you when you picked him up that they thought it was just the flu jab.

The idea that picking up a pair of socks as you walk past is too dangerous yet picking up a bottle of whisky isn't is just sheer madness . Why is nobody pointing this out to our glorious leaders? Why has NOBODY in the HOP got the balls to ask why they are different.
Its not to save small shops, i cant afford to buy from small niche shops just like many thousands of other people. If my kids need stuff they need them now not in 4 weeks time and at a price i can afford.

At this rate Dec is going to be another month of madness in shops, rates will go up and everyone will wail and blame anyone but the govs. Then what another lockdown?
We are going round in circles and its never going to end until people say No more.

MercyBooth · 04/11/2020 20:10

No power cut YET but lights flickering over half of Essex. Braintree Halstead Witham. What the hell is going on. How on earth is the
infrastructure going to cope with a winter lockdown???????!!!!!!!!!

Oh no What’s that about?

I know some might think I’m tin foil covered but I have been expecting internet outages this week but not necessarily power cuts.

MercyBooth · 04/11/2020 20:17

Its over a lot of Essex. Ridiculous. Braintree had a power cut the other end of town on Monday night. Its not good enough. Its not looking good for a winter lockdown.

Willow2017 · 04/11/2020 20:19

Have i missed a day?
There are fireworks going off in 2 parts of neighbouring streets!

SirSamuelVimes · 04/11/2020 20:21

We did ours tonight, @Willow2017 so that my mum could come over, as she won't break the rules so couldn't come tomorrow. Guessing a few people are doing the same.

NannyGythaOgg · 04/11/2020 20:27

Can meet outdoors tonight, can't tomorrow

If I wanted one I would have done it tonight too. As it is I'm having a fire all on my own, I have wood that needs burning, so this is a good opportunity. Will burn it tomorrow or Friday

Oh dear

We had a massive flood apparently due to a burst water main last week. But it was so bad, I was thinking, has regular maintenance work been done for utilities since March?

Jourdain11 · 04/11/2020 20:37

Drama drama here in West London, too. The A road our street branches off has been closed all day (apparently due to an accident) and our usually very quiet street is jammed with traffic! There were police crawling everywhere - what a shame that they won't have time to go around finding maskless people in Tescos...

Ah, I think that might explain the crazy traffic reports.
Pootle40 · 04/11/2020 21:04

Help! The coronavirus doom and gloom on MN is so out of control I need to take shelter here. Please say we don't obsess about people breaking the rules here like mass murderers .....

Marshyellow · 04/11/2020 21:05

It's safe here @Pootle40. I've found this thread more reflective of real life where I am, thankfully.
